Overview

About the property

Briar Hill is our beloved summer house set on over 3 acres of private land on exclusive Wing’s Neck, Pocasset. Four generations of our family have enjoyed summers in this three-story, cedar-shingled and clapboard sided house, originally built by a sea captain in the early 1920’s.

While updated to provide all the comforts of modern life, the soul of the house remains true to a simpler, quieter time. With 7 bedrooms Briar Hill is spacious and elegant while at the same time retaining the rustic charm of an old-fashioned summer house. While there is good cellular coverage, there is intentionally no WiFi or cable. There is a tennis court with a playground surface, wrap-around porch, fireplaces, and two resident-only beaches within walking distance. Additional amenities include sea kayaks, yard games, outdoor grill, large yard, ping pong table, quiet country roads for walking/jogging/biking, a slip which will accommodate a boat no longer than 12 feet and easy access to nearby towns of Falmouth and Woods Hole, as well as the ferry for day drips to Martha’s Vineyard.

Perfect setting for a relaxing family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family (8 adults and 5 young children) spent a delightful week at Briar Hill. If I could design the perfect family vacation house, this would be it. Briar Hill is gracious and comfortable, with lots of sitting areas, bedrooms, and bathrooms, a well-stocked kitchen, and best of all, a porch extending around 3 sides of the house. Every need seemed to have been anticipated, whether it was extra linens, ice (exceptional ice maker), board games, or sand chairs for the beach. The grounds are spacious and private, with lots of shade and open space for the kids to run around, play Frisbee, etc. Briar Hill is located in a quiet corner of the Cape, but within a short drive to beaches, shops, churches, and fun places for kids like mini golf, Cape Cod league baseball games, or the Woods Hole Aquarium. We hope to return and explore some more.

The property is very nice, a quiet estate with a deeply rooted family style cape cod ambiance.

The place is spacious, leaving plenty of room for large groups and families. Along with a full kitchen and a couple of grills to make cooking simple, and plenty of bathrooms with showers to keep every one satisfied. The beds were comfortable and more than enough blankets. The barn was used for parking and the porch served as a great place to end the remaining hours of sunlight. This place comes highly recommended to all.

Room for the whole family - and then some...

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for a better home to "borrow" for our family vacation. There was ample room for everyone (our numbers varied from 2 to 18 throughout the week), and the amenities were excellent. The location was ideal, as it was peaceful and quiet, but close enough to local points of interest as well as day trips to explore the rest of the cape!

The house itself had amazing character and rich with family history. Every room contained objects that piqued our curiosity and wondering what the "story" was behind them. As I commented to the owner - "If these walls could talk..."

We are definitely keeping Briar Hill on our list of favorites and won't hesitate to book a return trip if the opportunity comes up in the future.

Thanks to the entire Robbins family for welcoming us into your home...

Fun, Fun, & more Fun

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful week for my family!!! The house was amazing! We had quite a few adults and children and didn't trip over one another!! The rooms were large and plenty of sleeping room! The porch was a great gathering place which is where we spent much of our time. The beach was great for the family seeing we have lots of little ones! The kids had a blast (young & old). I would rent this home again for another family vacation to Pocassett.

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We are four families ( 16 of us ) who have been vacationing together for over ten years. The house was great plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms, and eating space for all. The house and the guest house gave us a total of 3 refrigerators, 2 stoves, and a ice maker plenty to keep all of us fed and hydrated. I think we spent more time on the back porch than we did in the house. We loved the house and would rent in again in a heartbeat.

Below is a review from one of the other families.

The house was great, the porch was wonderful!

Watch the downstairs toilet!

Appreciated quick answers to our questions

Great location to get to other places if needed

No complaints here !! We really liked the place !

Awesome, Fantastic, Superb

  • 5 of 5

Well, we just returned from one of the best family vacation/reunions we have ever had. This was a perfect house for multiple families, multiple kids, and even the teenagers were happy. Close enough to everything, yet not too close. Pocasset is a wonderful hideaway that I enjoyed when I was growing up and I am glad to say it has not changed much in the 40+ years. Peter's house is in a perfect location. The beach is a short walk and yet the "Old Silver" was not a long drive if you preferred a larger beach. One day we rented bikes in Falmouth and biked to Woods Hole, a short 21 mile round trip; but necessary after what we had been eating all week. As the adults did that the kids and parents headed off to Hyannis to enjoy the Inflatable Park. Peter's house is phenomenal as far as size and little "get aways" if you need that alone time; we got lost a little bit inside when we first arrived. Bedrooms and bathrooms enough for all 20+ of us. I think we spent most of our time on the back porch just catching up. The yard was big enough that we set up volley ball, had a couple of corn hole games and the boys loved playing hockey on the tennis court. It was so beautiful waking up in the morning to open windows and a wonderful breeze. The house has a separate back "carriage house" where my mother stayed in order to get away from the "chaos" of the little ones, who enjoyed sleeping in the "attic bedroom" every night. We had five families and never felt like we were on top of each other. I must say we went through a lot of "steamers" and probably as much wine, but hey it was vacation. I would recommend this house to anyone who was looking to "unplug" from the real world and bring along your family and friends. We had a fantastic time and we all hated to see it end. Most definitely we hope to visit Peter's house again. We made some great memories that we will treasure forever. Thank you, Peter, for giving us one of the best vacations we have ever had with family and friends.
