1 bedroom, 1 bath apartment, right on the beach with large ocean view balcony.
Sunrise over the ocean, sunset behind the coconut trees, stars reflecting in the water like diamonds; this is what frames your daily life over here at Ray's Place. Here, you are reminded of how beautiful the world is.
Once in your vacation home, let yourself be charmed by the gentle sound of the slow rolling waves on the beach, grab your binoculars when spotting a pod of dolphins passing by, or stay up to enjoy the moon rise over the ocean.
It is our pleasure to welcome you here to our little slice of paradise. We offer a clean and functional apartment with a breath-taking view over the Atlantic ocean. There are two other apartments in the same building. One vacation rental to the West side of the unit and the owners occupy the first floor. In addition to all the attractions you have planned to visit there is plenty to do right here on property: you are welcome to enjoy a barbecue cookout at the Tiki, a leisurely swim in the warm waters right in front of the house, or a kayak excursion.(kayaks available to owners and vacationers only). The beach is your backyard... snorkel gear comes in handy, so do water shoes and a fishing license.
For your convenience we have buoys right off shore of the property for your boat.
We also have a coin operated laundry room on property.
Across the street is the beginning of a very nicely renovated section of the Florida Keys Heritage Trail that leads you all the way to the town of Marathon. We particularly like to 'go for a walk' there early in the morning when a variety of birds are out and about. These include cardinals, mangrove cuckoos, white-crowned pigeons and yellow throat warblers.
Bird watchers need not go any further than the balcony to share the sky with birds. A loft in the heavens is really what this balcony should be called.
...back on earth, it's time to eat and we do not feel like cooking or getting in the car to find a restaurant, not a problem, the Grassy Key Outpost restaurant is next door offering a nice selection of dishes, it is also a convenience store (closed on Mondays)
In our neighborhood, Tursi, Gambit and friends are waiting to put on a show for you at the Dolphin Research Center. Home to Flipper in the 60's, DRC is located 1/4 of a mile from the property.
One mile South of us is Curry Hammock State Park where you actually do not need a park entrance ticket to stroll the hammock, just ask a local.
Three miles out to sea is marker 45, a nice place to fish mangrove and yellowtail snappers, and a few more miles South is Coffin's Patch Reef, a delightful protected area to dive or snorkel. Both locations are a few minutes away by boat from the property.
These are merely suggestions in addition to all the wonderful things that are yours to discover throughout the Florida Keys. We are so proud of our Grassy Key Island that we had to boast about it!

My family and I stayed at Ray’s place in May 2018. Not only was the view absolutely stunning, we felt completely at home. Isabelle was a warm and thoughtful host; we travelled with our 7 year old, and Heather and Isabelle went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Isabelle really spent time showing us around the place, giving us great recommendations on where to eat, snorkel, and even where to spot iguanas. We had all we needed to cook in, grill outside or enjoy a drink on the deck. There are kayaks, a tiki with chairs to lounge under and a hammock so you can take in a fantastic sunset. We spent a lot of time in the water - exploring the tide pools that emerge right in front of the property. We spotted herons, frigatebirds, pelicans and the comorants that we’re drying themselves on nearby posts. Surrounding the property you can see the impact of Hurricane Irma, but more importantly you can see the Keys reemerging as a destination to escape to and we hope to return again to enjoy that view:)
Exactly what we needed!
We just spent 6 days at Ray's place and had a great time. If you are looking for a place to relax and discover the Keys at your own pace, this is the perfect spot. Yes, it is in the Middle Keys, where Irma hit the hardest, and yes, both people and the landscape are still recovering from it, but most (if not all) businesses and attractions are up and running, and it was a very educational experience to talk to locals about Irma and its impact on their lives, and very rewarding to put our money where it's really needed. Isabelle and Bill are great hosts, always around if needed but never intrusive and very helpful, and we enjoyed very much talking with Isabelle, a fellow French national :). The apartment is exactly as described (nothing fancy but all the basics, including life-saving a/c and fans), that view from the balcony is indeed quite outstanding and there's an overwhelming feeling of peace and freedom that will be hard to leave behind. If you're into kayaking (we are), the kayaks provided by the hosts are brand new and top quality, and they're a great way to discover nearby little coves and beaches. We don't know when, but we'll be back! Thanks again, Bill and Isabelle!
with the view and how quiet it was, i highly recom
the view was stunning, unbroken horizons with spectacular sunrises.
the interior was a little bit dated but was very clean. Pride of ownership was very well displayed.
We loved our visit to the Florida Keys! Ray's Place was quiet and relaxing, just what we needed! We could walk for quite a long way off the beach. We saw stone and horseshoe crab. A couple of mornings we could see a pod of dolphins swim. It was the most amazing experience! Isabelle made sure we had everything we needed. Each place has a notebook of great information of places to dine and visit.
We can't wait until our next visit!

We spent a week relaxing and enjoying the view. Great location and everything you need is provided. The area is still recovering from the last hurricane but we still love the keys. The hosts are very accommodating. Thanks!
Great place to celebrate our 25th anniversary!
Don't let the damage from the hurricane stop you from coming. The devastation from the storm is still visible but the view from the balcony is still beautiful. We enjoyed our stay and everything we needed was provided. Many great bars and restaurants with delicious seafood nearby. Make sure to go to happy hour at Key's fisheries for stone crab. The dolphin research center is within walking distance. Don't miss it.
