About the property

Two Bathrooms, King And Full Beds, Craftsman Charm

The Ashland Cottage is a spacious 1½ bath bi-level studio with king bed and pull out sofa. Perched behind our 1920s Craftsman home in a lovely historic neighborhood, the cottage is located just two blocks above the Ashland Library and within easy walking distance of Lithia Park, Shakespeare theaters and the downtown plaza. The downstairs living area provides a full bath with deep tub, gas fireplace and a pull-out couch with double mattress, while the upstairs bedroom includes a half bath, ample closet and drawer space and a pillow-top king bed with quality linens. This beautiful vacation abode features cathedral ceilings with spectacular, wide views of the Siskiyou Mountains. Alley access provides a private entrance and dedicated off-street parking.

The Ashland Cottage is a guest house and shares a large backyard with our residence. The cottage offers both privacy and connection, whichever supports your preference and schedule. Many guests, especially children, are drawn to play and explore in our idyllic backyard. Our free-range chickens, curious cats and large trampoline offer endless amusement. We enjoy meeting new people and sharing the magic of this special town.

Charming cottage

  • 5 of 5

Compact, clean and beautifully designed cottage with great views, a comfortable bed set in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of downtown. I was a little surprised to find an electric hot plate instead of a stove, but it was augmented by a toaster oven and microwave, so be prepared if you plan on cooking. The hosts made themselves easily available, yet gave us all the privacy we could ask for. We would love to return.

Owner's Response: Five star reviews make my day! :-) I'm so glad you had a nice time. We hope you return to our cottage on your next visit to Ashland. As a note to future guests, the hot plate works surprisingly well, and there's another burner on the BBQ, along with the toaster / convection oven and microwave; and a rice cooker, commercial blender, crockpot, salad spinner, Cuisinart pots and pans, etc. And best of all, everything is neat and orderly. I love to cook, so I aim to provide a good kitchen experience for our guests- although it's hard to beat walking down the street to the variety of local restaurants.

Great Property, great contact with the owner, few small changes would have made it perfection!

  • 4 of 5

This was a great place to stay during our time in Ashland for OSF.

The cottage is lovely for two people, the bed very comfy, and the short distance to downtown is great. Property owner was awesome, good communication and setup.

There are a few small (really, super minor) things that didn't really detract from our stay, but would have been nice:

- The alley that you access the cottage (which is at the back of the owner's property) from is not paved. This didn't matter for driving, but as we walked many places, knowing this ahead of time would have changed what I packed as gravel and high heels really don't mix.

- While the back doors for accessing the porch do have curtains for them, the large bay window does not. As we were on vacation and would have liked it to be darker as we slept in, this wasn't great. It also means extra planning for every shower as our clothes were upstairs in the bedroom, but the shower is downstairs past said window. The robes provided were nice, but should not have felt like a requirement when just grabbing a shower.

- There is basically no lighting in the alley that you use to access the cottage. We, like many visitors I'm sure, were in town for the Shakespeare Festival and seeing evening plays. It would have been nice if some small flashlights (something that could fit in a purse) were provided so that we weren't trying to navigate in the dark.

So, in summary, really great place to stay for our week in Ashland. Will definitely be considering the property for future stays, but a few small adjustments would make it a 5-star guaranteed recommendation to anyone.

Owner's Response: I'm always really touched when people take the time to write a review.. often sharing details that are helpful for both the owner and for future guests. There is usually a flashlight in the kitchen drawer, but I'll make sure of that for each visitor, and I always leave the driveway light on. I'll try adding some solar lighting to the alley. Great feedback! I appreciate it.

The perfect get-a-way cottage.

  • 4 of 5

This charming cottage has everything for a relaxed stay in Ashland. It is fully equipped with a full kitchen. One large bath with tub and shower and a second 1/2 bath in the loft sleeping area. The cottage is really like a small house. The high ceilings make it feel much larger than it is. The cottage sits behind the proprietors' home but is very private. The only possible downside (4 instead of 5 stars), if you cannot walk up or down Ashland's hills or stairs, is that it sits a couple of blocks above the main thoroughfare and has stairs to the aforementioned sleeping area.

The owners are an absolute delight and will go out of their way to make you welcome!

Access, Beauty, Privacy

The "Cottage" was great. It was close walking distance to most of the great food and fun in Ashville, close to bike paths, had nice views, and had a nice private entrance, parking and "feel". Hosts were very nice and made the stay something to repeat.

Great cottage in a great location.

We loved the little cottage. Perfect for our visit. Clearly well cared for by the owners. Having breakfast on the deck was great. The air conditioning and ceiling fan worked well to keep the place cool.

Lovely cottage shaded by a great tree so felt like we were in a tree house.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for our 3 generation visit to Ashland to see Beauty and the Beast. The combination of the outside deck, inside comfort of the sitting area and the upstairs loft with the king bed was great. Everything was there to prepare a simple meal. The couch bed was comfortable enough for one but might be less so for two adults, kids would find it fine. Loved the feel of the walnut tree branches draping down to create a shady private feel as well as keeping the cottage cool. It was quite warm during out stay and with the a/c upstairs and the shady tree the cottage stayed very comfortable. It is a nice walk to the theaters and downtown Ashland. A 5 star accommodation very nicely done for maximum comfort. The owners were very welcoming and helpful before and during our stay.
