Kalapana Shores is located in the lower Puna District of Pahoa, 30 minutes drive south of Hilo. This lush side of the Island is abundant with life, black sand beaches, Volcanoes Nat'l Park, Pahoa, old & new lava flows and the spirit of Aloha!

This Tropical Hawaiian Paradise Vacation home can be rented for three nights or more, was built in 2007 and is very well maintained. The upper unit sleeps 6 guests, has 3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms. Master is awesome! The lower level has two bedrooms & one bathroom. Both levels have full kitchens, living and dining rooms. Units are completely separate and can be rented individually.

The home is fully furnished and the upper unit has an expansive upper lanai with amazing ocean view with outdoor dining. The lower unit has a lush private lanai with outdoor dining. All bedrooms have luxurious Sealy Posturepedic beds, dressers, closets and fans. Both kitchens are well equipped with a full sized refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, electric tea kettle, rice cooker, blender, crock-pot, toaster, etc. Other amenities include:

- Linens, towels, iron

- Snorkels, masks & fins

- Books and puzzles

- Laundry room on both levels

- Gas BBQ grill on upper lanai

We are located in Kaimu on the Kalapana Coastline, just a few minutes from the beautiful, Kehena Black Sand beach. Fifteen minute drive to Pahoa town for shops, restaurants and coffee. Hilo town is a 30 minute drive with great spots to see colorful reef fish and giant sea turtles year-round! We are also a 5-minute walk to Uncle Robert's Awa Club and bar - a genuine, Hawaiian-family-owned outdoor bar and market!

Both units of the house are super comfortable. The upper unit has a lovely view of the ocean and the vast lava fields of Kaimu Beach. Kalapana Shores extends to its guests a green tropical piece of land, across the road toward the ocean. This parcel is great for picnics or just hanging out.

There is 24-hour assistance available should you have any questions or should anything unexpected arise.

Please, no pets allowed unless they are licensed service animals and be sure to let us know ahead of time.

JCC World Ventures (operators of Kalapana Shores) was formed between John Corcoran and Corey Reyment, former and friends with similar backgrounds from different environments. Corey, and Carrie live in Green Bay Wisconsin and are raising young children.

Corey is from Green Bay along with his wife Carrie are raising young children.

John is from Seal Beach, Ca with a background in sports, restaurants in entertainment. After 20 years visiting the Big Island, John has found a home away from home and is generally 30 minutes or less from this amazing ocean property.

JCC WV, is committed to providing clean reliable comfortable service and quality island home for single guests, a couple, couples, families or groups. Hands-on, or hands off, we help provide you with an amazing island adventure or a quiet relaxing ocean front jungle experience. This property is located a safe drive from the Kilauea Volcano zone,!

Why Derryn chose Pahoa

When we decided to purchase a vacation rental home in Hawai'i, we were all about Puna! There's magic and serenity here. Pahoa, lower Puna, Kalapana & Kaimu hold a completely different vibe than Kona and even Hilo. You can actually feel the Aloha with each breath, taste the scent of natural landscapes and see the ever-changing beauty of the old lava flow just outside the door. On top of this, the hot tub is perfectly located with amazing views. Our neighbors are wonderful, our housecleaners are the best and our maintenance guy keeps the house running smooth!

We looked at many places back on 2010, but Kal Shores was the one! Built in 2007, this home was constructed to withstand the elements. It has an open floor plan, wrap-around lanai, awesome hot tub and only four other private homes on our little road. Unlike most other properties north of Kaimu on the Red Road, we are only partly solar powered and enjoy clean, filtered water pumped in from Pahoa. No need for water catchments or loud generators here. You can hear the waves crashing on the shore from the lanai.

Another big plus is that we are a 10 minute walk to the ocean and a 10 minute walk to Uncle Robert’s Awa Club - . We can’t say enough about this authentic Hawaiian family-owned business, so you’ll just have to go see for your self but trust us, it’s truly a slice of the Puna lifestyle.

Pahoa was just added to the Best Choice Review as on of the 50 Best Small Town Downtowns in America!

What makes this house unique

We absolutely love this home and it shows! When we purchased Kalapana Shores, the interior was painted all one color - pale blue. So the first project was to paint… everything. Angela picked out the colors and we went to work painting the whole interior ourselves. As you can see, the beautiful interior now compliments the whole environment.

The town of Kalapana is featured in Hawaii Magazine, March/April 2017 issue. The main focus on Uncle Robert's Awa Club and outdoor market is just a 10 min. walk from our home!

The town of Pahoa is just a 10 min drive from home. Pahoa is a fun throwback town from the '60's!

The immediate property surrounding the home was all just dirt. Next project: landscaping. We brought in red and black cinder, planted 20 Eureka Palm trees, planted dozens of other plants that were gifted to us from neighbor's yards, created a pineapple ring in the back yard and made many friends in the process. The climate here causes plants to grow extremely fast so the landscape looks beautifully different every time we visit. Even the BBQ gets replaced every year due to the rust factor!

The unforgettable ocean views feel as if we’re out far away from civilization, but we also love the feeling of being 10 minutes from Pahoa. Even though we're part of the U.S., we’re still way out there in the middle of the Pacific so we like having great neighbors nearby. The coded, bamboo gate is a perfect security feature and there are so many fun places to explore.

If you like to go for a jog, the Red Road is the best!! Sometimes we take our morning coffee out to the lava and watch the sea turtles play in the blue, blue ocean waves. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the tides; High tide is best for snorkeling at Kapoho Tidepools, swimming at Ahalanui Pool and surfing at Pohoiki!

An Incredibly Memorable Experience!

Oh my gosh! Our stay at Kalapana Shores was incredible. We were fortunate to rent the entire house for our party of 10 people. We first walked into the lower level and we were so impressed. Then we took a look at the top level and we were simply blown away! The house had everything that we needed to make our 3 night stay extremely comfortable for everyone. One of the best benefits was that the kids could roam around freely because the entire property is fenced in. They especially enjoyed playing pool and the hot tub! The master bed room upstairs was fabulous and our kids enjoyed having their own rooms. It was a bit hot but there were lots of ceiling fans and floor fans to make our stay still comfortable (an improvement would be to have AC but we did good without it too). We also had an added bonus when we learned about a gazebo in the distance and that it was apart of the property and that we could go there to access the lava field where our family enjoyed exploring the newly formed land. The owners did an incredible job in specifically detailing how to access the house and use the different codes for the house, garage and gate. I also really appreciated being able to call them when we had a few questions throughout the weekend. They were really accommodating and provided a great service. We would definitely rent this house again if we need to be in Kalapana. It was a home away from home and definitely better than staying at a hotel room! The price was affordable for us and we loved every bit of the experience. Mahalo Kalapana Shores! A hui hou!

Great location, even better house

Fans where on when we got there so House was cool and comfortable from the get go, House was in immaculate condition and made our stay even better. Communication with home owner was easy as they seem like really nice people. We will be staying here on our next trip

Living on "the edge" and loving it!

Warm day's with light showers. Warm nights with glowing lava flows. When that was not enough we had Pahoa, Hilo, the Black sand and Green sand beaches, the Hot pond and the volcano national park to explore as well. Our whole family had a great time and will return to this special place up among the tree's, in the jungle, but right on the coast as well. Mahalo DnA.

Great location and spacious accommodations

The house (we stayed in just the upstairs) is very spacious and well set-up. The lava field behind the house offers both a beautiful view, and an interesting place to explore. There is considerable road noise. The tropical fauna in the form of very loud Kokee frogs and many cockroaches and geckos were part of the experience.

Beautiful well cared for property.

Our party of six had a lovely time at this beautiful property. Being able to open all the windows and doors to let the breeze inside and still be secure was great. There is no air conditioning, but it is not needed. The lanai and the jacuzzi were our favorite hang out area. I dont think anyone even turned on a tv as it was more entertaining to watch the birds and geckos.

The house was equipped with everything we needed including nice towels and linens. Even a few food items in the kitchen. Check the cupboards before shopping so as not to buy doubles of items like olive oil.

The property is just a short stroll to Uncle Robert's which is an enjoyable time on Wednesday night's. Be there before 5:00 if you want a table.

Easy access to Pahoa (which is an experience all its own) and a nice little grocery store.

Please drive the Red Road. It is a right turn right out of the driveway. There are breathtaking views along the road. We drove it three different times.

The owners were a joy to work with and so was the caretaker.

Do not be afraid to rent this property; I believe that you will be pleased.

Very nice, spacious house with a large lanai overlooking gardens with ocean in the distance

This place was just right for us. Plenty of room for everyone and a huge lanai to relax and eat dinners together on. Big clean hot tub(that we didn't use much because it was unusually warm and dry). The place was once ocean-front until a lava flow came through about 20 years ago. Now it's a 5-10 minute walk over fascinating black lava to roaring ocean waves. It's also very convenient to go to the lava flows in the evening which we did, about a 5-minute drive to the bike rentals($10 per person). On Wednesdays, it's a 10 minute walk to the Uncle Awa's which is a combination of a Hawaiian concert and market.

The house itself had everything we wanted: clean; full kitchens; washer-dryer; hot tub; and especially the large porch to enjoy the sweet tropical scents, warm air, and ambience that are so special in Hawaii.

Nightly rates shown above are for two guests. Add $15.00 per night for each additional guest.
Guests needing up to three beds rent the upper level only.

We only rent to one group at a time, either upper level or whole house.
We never rent upper and lower levels separately to different groups at the same time.
Reservations for seven nights receive the seventh night free of charge!
