About Jim and Sheila Avery

My childhood vacations always included passing through the area on our way to see family in Tennessee. We have always enjoyed the beauty and peacefulness that the mountains have to offer. After hiking the Appalachian Trail several times, we knew that we wanted a place near Gatlinburg. This cabin is our dream come true and we are pleased to share it with our guests. We only ask that our guests treat the cabin with kindness and respect, so others can enjoy it also.

Jim and Sheila Avery purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Jim and Sheila Avery chose East

We chose this property for it's privacy and easy access. Knowing that there are so many area attractions, we wanted a place where the traveling would be minimum, and the roads would be easy to undertake. The chalet style allows for a lot of natural light which gives the cabin an open and airy feel. Simple and cozy without feeling small.

What makes this cabin unique

We chose this cabin for it's location and privacy. By taking advantage of it's fully stocked kitchen, you can choose to have a private, quiet night in. Or if you prefer to spend time enjoying all the area attractions, you are just a short distance away, with easy, well maintained mountain roads. The romantic possibilities are endless with the jacuzzi tub by the fire, or the hot tub under the stars. We take pride in the cleanliness of our properties!

Quiet and very Cozy

  • 5 of 5

We went for our 15th anniversary and it was amazing. Very quiet area. The cabin was very cozy for just the two of us and extremely clean. The only disappointment we had... we never got to see the momma bear and cubs!!

Nice Cabin

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The cabin was clean , comfortable , and a great place to get away for our 30th Wedding anniversary . We come to the mountains every year to hike with this being the first time staying at this cabin. My wife and I would recommend this cabin for other couples. The cabin has a Jacuzzi which was relaxing after hiking all day. Overall a very wonderful stay.

However, there are a few items that could make the stay more enjoyable or relaxing.

1. Provide more wash cloths and towels.

2. Provide Baking pans and Corning Casserole dishes for the kitchen. We ate most of our meals at the cabin and these items would of made it easier to prepare the meals.

3. Instructions on using the electronic door lock system. This was the first time we've every used this type of locking system. It took us a few tries to lock the door. Finally , we realized that you push the top button and turn the knob on the locking system.

4. Change the lighting in the cabin especially the kitchen area. Maybe add (4) lamp LED light kits to the fans and place them on dimmers so you could achieve the look you have now if desired. In the kitchen either a pendant light with multiple lamps or a 4' LED surface mount fixture.

Perfeact for a couple!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was as advertised! I would offer two suggestions--needs some additional lighting in the kitchen and also needs some place to unpack clothes or racks for suitcases.

Relaxing, private, and great place to stay for a get-away weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place for my wife and I to stay for our wedding anniversary. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed for a get-away weekend. It is very convenient to both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, yet far enough away that you don't feel like you are in the busyness of all the people. Also, the owners were very gracious with us when our daughter got sick and we had to change weekends for our stay. They were very understanding and made it very easy for us. You can't go wrong with this cabin!

Pros and Cons

  • 3 of 5

So this was my first HomeAway experience and there things I liked and things I didn't.

Pros: the check in and check out were super easy, the cabin is easy to find and is centrally located between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, the area is quiet, property is very clean.

Cons: the bed is beyond worn out, you can see the sloping of the mattress when you first enter and it's as uncomfortable to sleep on as it looks, part of the bed is currently being supported with a piece of 2X4 as one of the legs has broken off, bring your own pillows as the ones that are there are flat, thin and there are not enough pillow cases to go around, you must like sunlight as the bed is positioned directly beneath the large open windows that are high up on the wall, there are small missing things, like a luggage rack, that overall make the experience less than stellar.

I will use HomeAway again. I would not recommend this property until the owners replace the bed.

Owner's Response: We sincerely apologize about the bed. You are absolutely correct, it needs to be replaced. It was broken before your arrival by guests that we're happy honeymooners. The two by fours were a quick fix but we will be bringing in a new frame as soon as possible. We truly hope you had a great time visiting Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge!
