Family friendly and Pet friendly log cabin located in Paradise Canyon of the Mineral King/Sequoia National Park area. This cabin is 'off the grid' which gives family and friends uninterrupted time to bond with each other!
This home is in an isolated location. The road to the house is very narrow and curvy. There are no street lights for the last 10 miles of your drive. Once you reach Three Rivers it will take another half hour to drive those 10 miles and reach the home. The home is 30 minutes from the park entrance and all amenities such as restaurants and grocery stores.
This home is also considered "unplugged" which means there is no cell service (It does not matter what provider you have.) no WiFi, and no cable television. There is a landline phone for incoming and outgoing calls, plenty of games and music to choose from, and some DVD's available for the large projection television screen in the living room.
There are four bedrooms each with a king size bed! The Blue Bedroom offers a small deck right out the back door! The Red Bedroom and Cream Bedroom have ceiling fans and skylights to check out the night stars! Every bedroom offers space to store your personal belongings.
The back patio has amazing views of the surrounding area with a patio table with an umbrella and large propane BBQ.
The house offers plenty of board games, over 1,000 music CD and record albums, DVDs for movie night on a large projection screen with surround sound, outdoor swings, a fenced in yard with plenty of outdoor space to play, and a mini rock pool filled with river water!
The house offers a large family room with multiple couches to lounge in and a large dining room table that will seat everyone! The kitchen is very open with plenty of space to cook and it comes equipped with a propane stainless steel stove and refrigerator, and plenty of pots, pans, and dishes for dining. We supply coffee, tea, sugar, powdered creamer, and some basic condiments and spices.
This cabin is run on solar power and propane. There is no internet, no cell phones, or cable TV to distract you from Mother Nature and your family and friends! (We do have land line telephone for outgoing and incoming calls if needed.)
This location is approximately 30 minutes from Hwy 198 in Three Rivers. The road is very narrow and curvy. Three Rivers is the closest town that offers restaurants and other amenities for your stay. It is recommended that you arrive with everything you need for your visit. Driving to the store and back will take an hour out of your vacation time.
We had a great time at this property. Spacious house, with a large living room, 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
It was a bit outdated and it probably needs some investment (e.g. there is no dishwasher).
We loved the vinyl collection and had some great evenings.
All in all recommended for families and groups.
If I could give Sheila a personal rating, I'd give her 5 stars! She was great with communication and was very accommodating.
The cabin is gorgeous. My entire family and their families fit comfortably in and out of the house. The deck was an amazing place to eat dinner while watching the kiddos splash around in the rock pool (definitely an amazing perk that the house has to offer). The home was well maintained and we enjoyed being in the cabin just as much as we enjoyed exploring the areas around us. We did have issues with the solar losing electricity a lot so that was a bummer (especially with how hot it was). If it weren't for that, the trip would have been perfect! The area is absolutely gorgeous and I'd love to be there during the autumn or winter months because I'm sure the area is even more beautiful then.
I would definitely rent this place again.
Also, make sure you give your bed the once over before hopping in. We had a little friend (a very small scorpion) hiding out in a pillow. He was easy to scoop up and put outside and he was too small to do anything other than pack a painful bite, but he did give some of the less outdoorsy folks in the house a scare. The house is in the middle of nowhere so it's to be expected. No rattle snakes or bears were seen and the only other critter was a cricket who had a lot to say about being trapped in the house.
The place is very beautiful. Very well maintained. The house is equipped for all your needs. They have splendid collection of movies/music and books. It is a nice relaxing get away home for large groups. The Backyard has a wonderful view.
Cabin is large enough to host large families and the fenced in yard is great. A lot of activities to do inside the house and close enough to the river. If you don't mind the fact that it's about a half hour drive away from the national park, this is a great spot.
I stayed at this property this for two nights and had a pleasant stay. It is a 20 minute drive off of Sierra Dr (98) and is very secluded with a great mountain view.
The positives were the following:
-Well equipped house. Which included cooking/cleaning supplies, linens, fire wood, drinking water (faucet water is river water).
-Great view from any part of the property.
-Plenty of games and toys to keep kids entertained in evenings.
-Great instructions on how everything is ran (gas grill, water heater etc.)
-Contact was very helpful and called day of arrival to make sure we were settled in.
While the house was beautiful and secluded we did get a reminder of how careful you should be around nature when you are not normally surrounded by it.
When checking the beds for bugs we came across a brown scorpion approx. 2.5" inches long which really scared us specially because we were about to lay one of the toddlers for nap time. After this encounter we made sure to check all beds and kept a close eye on the kids the rest of the weekend. Aside from this scare all we had to clear were mostly spiders from normal frequented areas which included restrooms and bed rooms. Really wished this was taken cared of before we got there. We would have really enjoyed the stay more by not having to worry about critters at night.
When Sheila informed us that the cabin didn't have any cellphone or internet service coverage, we were skeptical at first about completely getting off the grid. However, since we were just staying for 2 nights, we got around our inhibition and decided to proceed. Well, we ended up repenting that decision .... 2 nights wasn't enough! We loved the cabin, the location, the amenities, the space ... basically, everything about it. It is well thought through for all basic needs - cooking, relaxing, hiking, watching movies, listening to music, reading books, grilling, etc ..whatever you want to do on a vacation. We enjoyed the overhead projector to catch up on some old classics. The kiddo loved the blackboard, chalks, guitar, outdoor swing, etc. The grillers of the group loved the BBQ grill and the deck. Overall, this is a great spot and we have bookmarked it for future stays.
