Privacy in Paradise Canyon

Bedrooms 4
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

4 Bedroom with Kings bed, 2 Bath with river rock soaking tub!

Family friendly and Pet friendly log cabin located in Paradise Canyon of the Mineral King/Sequoia National Park area. This cabin is 'off the grid' which gives family and friends uninterrupted time to bond with each other!

This home is in an isolated location. The road to the house is very narrow and curvy. There are no street lights for the last 10 miles of your drive. Once you reach Three Rivers it will take another half hour to drive those 10 miles and reach the home. The home is 30 minutes from the park entrance and all amenities such as restaurants and grocery stores.

This home is also considered "unplugged" which means there is no cell service (It does not matter what provider you have.) no WiFi, and no cable television. There is a landline phone for incoming and outgoing calls, plenty of games and music to choose from, and some DVD's available for the large projection television screen in the living room.

There are four bedrooms each with a king size bed! The Blue Bedroom offers a small deck right out the back door! The Red Bedroom and Cream Bedroom have ceiling fans and skylights to check out the night stars! Every bedroom offers space to store your personal belongings.

The back patio has amazing views of the surrounding area with a patio table with an umbrella and large propane BBQ.

The house offers plenty of board games, over 1,000 music CD and record albums, DVDs for movie night on a large projection screen with surround sound, outdoor swings, a fenced in yard with plenty of outdoor space to play, and a mini rock pool filled with river water!

The house offers a large family room with multiple couches to lounge in and a large dining room table that will seat everyone! The kitchen is very open with plenty of space to cook and it comes equipped with a propane stainless steel stove and refrigerator, and plenty of pots, pans, and dishes for dining. We supply coffee, tea, sugar, powdered creamer, and some basic condiments and spices.

This cabin is run on solar power and propane. There is no internet, no cell phones, or cable TV to distract you from Mother Nature and your family and friends! (We do have land line telephone for outgoing and incoming calls if needed.)

This location is approximately 30 minutes from Hwy 198 in Three Rivers. The road is very narrow and curvy. Three Rivers is the closest town that offers restaurants and other amenities for your stay. It is recommended that you arrive with everything you need for your visit. Driving to the store and back will take an hour out of your vacation time.

Not a clean or well kept property

  • 2 of 5

We recently stayed in this property, from 7/27/2017-7/31/2017. We had a great time, but there were a few issues. There are a lot of mice on this property. We saw a few of them in the house during our stay. Our biggest issue with this were the mouse dropping, which were everywhere...the kitchen, bathrooms, beds. There were spiders and spider webs everywhere indoors. There are a few hornets nests on the house and the hornets are able to get into the house through unsealed windows. We had a couple indoors during our stay. Some of the windows had no screen. The windows needed to be opened, as there is only a swamp cooler and the house gets very hot. The swing set outside is a liability issue; it is not secured, the wood is stripped, and it is in general very dangerous. The house in general could use some TLC. Whoever is cleaning this property is doing a very poor job. The kitchen floor looked like it had not been cleaned in years.

Owner's Response: Once in a while we get a review that requires me to read it a few times before answering. This review is one of them. Ultimately, this house is in the mountains where it is peaceful, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nature, and off the grid which means we are on solar power. There is no mobile reception which is a gift for those who value the beauty of being unplugged. It is a log cabin that lacks certain amenities of typical homes in the town. Guests who value and practice energy and water conservation will enjoy this experience of living off the grid. We hope that our guests appreciate this when they make the reservation. The kitchen floor is old linoleum, scratched and probably does look worn out, but it doesn't mean that we don't clean it. The homeowner fixed some of the screens but two are still missing. With a swamp cooler, you don't want to open all of the windows since it prevents the cooler from doing its job by letting in too much hot air. The mice have been very difficult to deal with this year, so I believe that you saw one or two but as for droppings everywhere, we don't leave our homes infested with mouse droppings. Hornets are a common inhabitant up there in the mountains and I'm sorry that one flew into the house. Our reviews are definitely all over the place for this house. There is a combination of two things that cause the reviews to be inconsistent: the guest who wants a pristine clean environment vs the guest who expects to be surrounded by Mother Nature. We do our best to maintain the property but there are just some things that we can't always guarantee. Mother Nature is always the boss, no matter how hard we try. Every visitor to this house will experience a very different stay. Much of it will have to do with the time of year that a person visits. Every season brings new weather, bugs, critters, and road conditions. But it is this diversity of nature that makes cabins like this so hard to find. Sheila L. Stone ~ Property Manager

Best vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

6 adults, 7 kids stayed here for 3 nights. We were little scared about the road situation and being in the pure nature. It turned out to be the best vacation ever for all 3 family! It took 30 mins on the curvy narrow off street, but view was amazing. House was spacious to accomonate our big group. Kitchen was fully stocked and there were enough towels. Few cons were; liver water pool took almost 8 hours to fill and a bit too small for 7 kids; Water pressure was weak; my friend found a mouse in the house. But, even with these things, we would come back! It was pure nature and one of a kind experience!!

Shilela was very responsive!! Thank you!!

Had a Great Time

  • 4 of 5

Our three day stay in a Three Rivers was wonderful. While we did not spend a great amount of time in the house we were pleased with the spaciousness of the cabin. The view was fabulous and you can hear the Kaweah River from the cabin. It truly is a 20 minute drive from the bottom of Minerial King Road. If you love the water, visit Frank Root at Kaweah Water Adventure. One aspect of the stay that was mildly disappointing was a lack of water pressure. If you are a large group plan accordingly when showering. Don't let this stop you from coming out!

Magic in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

What a very special place Paradise Canyon is. A beautiful drive up the valley to a lovely wood cabin on the side of the hill. Back to nature. Excellent cooking facilities, a projector and a superb record collection added to the enjoyment.

Stunningly beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Property manager was quick to respond to emails, house was clean, large, yard was amazing, and the beds were comfortable. The hot water was turned off when we arrived but was easily fixed. The drive up is precarious but very beautiful and truly unique.
