Our stay in Afife....

.....was just perfect. When I booked the accommodation in the middle of winter I was hoping that our holiday would turn out just the way it did. Afife itself is an absolutely lovely quiet little village that caters for all shopping needs, although I would recommend a car. The beaches are stunning and we virtually had them to ourselves although this may have had something to do with the time of year (late June). Our children (teenagers) went to surf school everyday for the week and as for the accommodation well it was everything we could have hoped for. Antonio was very welcoming and helped us with any queries we had. His home is well equipped and spacious with a games room (table tennis, table football etc), a kitchen, living room, two bathrooms and three bedrooms. His garden is a paradise with a view of the sea, with fig, orange and lime trees. There are many secret hidden corners for parents to relax. We had breakfast on the terrace every morning and managed to go down to the beach for sunset nearly every evening . The local towns are well worth a visit and we even took a trip (1 hour drive) into Spain. We found the people in Afife (and Portugal in general) to be very friendly and welcoming, at no time did we in anyway feel unsafe. I'm sure that we will return to Afife and when we do will certainly try and stay at Antonio's house again.

Wunderschönes Ferienhaus, mit viel Liebe saniert, tolle Lage

Wir waren zum surfen hier, wunderbare Strände, gute Restaurants, nette Leute, gut ausgestattetes Ferienhaus, hat alles gepasst, der Garten lädt zum Spielen und Verweilen ein, einziger kleiner Mangel - die Toreinfahrt ist unzureichend (sehr sehr eng), für Motorräder gut geeignet. Der Vermieter ist sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich.

Wunderschönes Ferienhaus mit Meerblick

Wonderful house

We very much enjoyed our stay in this house. We felt very welcomed by Antonio, who explained everything and was also of great help during our vacation with small (not unusual) repairs (e.g. replacing light bulbs etc.). This house has a beautiful (and huge) garden with many fruits (grapes, lemons, oranges, ...) and a BBQ place that enriched our daily meals. The beach is in good walking distance (~ 20 minutes) through the beautiful old village. We will be happy to return again in the future. Highly recommended!

Great stay at a great location!

My former recomendation was a bit short, but adding to that: we stayed in the house for 11 days with three kids aged 12, 10 and 1. They all enjoyed their stay, there's lots of things to do in and around the house. The house is very nicely renovated with enough space for the kids to play in- and outside, to do cooking, watch TV or play games. The garden is beautiful and the house has a magnificent view directing to the beaches. It's a great place for people to stay, friends, family, couples, and kids. I truely recommend the house and I might consider coming back on the future, also because we loved Northern Portugal with its lovely towns like Viena do Castelo, Caminha, Ponte de Lima etc (and we didn't even visit Braga and Porto, which I believe must be beautiful too). Very nice property with lots of facilities!

We were very happy with the house and all its utilities. Antonio was very helpful answering our questions before and during the trip. The property is beautiful, with all its fruit trees. The beach is nearby and the surrounding area is beautiful.

A house to fall in love with

We stayed here with 7 (kids 18,16,13 and grandparents) for a week and had an absolutely wonderful time. The house is very pleasant, well equiped, has lots of character and great views from the bedrooms. The garden is huge and beautiful (loved the fruit trees!) and has a stunning seaview and a hammock. You can walk to the large, sandy, quiet beach of Afife in ca. 15 min. The water is cold but the waves are fantastic! From Afife beach you can walk to Arda beach which is equally beautiful. If you prefer to go to the beach by car: we were there second half of july and there was absolutely no problem parking. We spend 2 weeks in the region and had surfing lessons at Arda beach, went canoeing (Caminho) and visited Braga, Porto and Ponte de Lima. But in this house most of all we enjoyed to stay home, relax, have dinner under the grapevines, play table football and enjoy eachothers company. And of course go to the beach. There is a supermarket in Afife (10 min walk), and an Intermarché a bit further down the road. This house makes you forget about work and chores the moment you walk in. We hope to come back. And last but not least: António is a great host.

Beautiful country-house in great location

We, a family of five (3 teenagers) stayed at villa Afife 4-8 of July 2017. Our host Antonio made us feel incredible welcome as we arrived. You could tell that the house and garden are his pride and joy and that made us appreciate it even more. The house is really cozy but also comfortable and clean. You have all the amenities that you'll need for a comfortable stay. The garden is private and beautiful and you even have a view of the sea from there. We had plenty of room for our whole family. The location is great, only an hour away from Porto and other interesting sites such as Ponte de Lima and Braga. Right in Afife is also a great beach really close by. Antonio was really accommodating and we kept in touch with him during our whole stay.

Heerlijke zonnige woning dichtbij zee en strand

In juli 2016 hebben wij een heerlijke week doorgebracht in dit comfortabele huis dicht bij zee en het strand. Het ontbreekt je aan niets. Van pannen, bestek, 2 caffettieres, een tosti ijzer tot aan cd's, hangmat, barbecue en een voetbalspel in de grote speelkamer. Van dit voetbalspel hebben wij regelmatig fanatiek gebruik gemaakt. Het strand is goed bereikbaar met de fietsen die je bij Antonio kunt huren. Ze zijn niet van de allerbeste kwaliteit, maar voor de fietstochtje naar zee of supermarkt zijn ze prima.De tuin is heerlijk, er zijn zowel schaduw- als zonnige plekken, met 's avonds prachtige zonsondergangen. Er zijn ligstoelen en er is een grote tafel om te eten of spelletjes te doen. Tussen de middag lunch je onder de wijnranken.De keuken en kamer zijn niet heel groot, maar er is voldoende leefruimte. En in Portugal leef je toch voornamelijk buiten. Er zijn 2 badkamers, waarvan 1 beneden. Kortom, een heerlijk huis voor diegenen die willen genieten van rust, zon, zee.

Excellent séjour

Excellent séjour. Maison impeccable et pleine de charme. Vue sur mer superbe. Accueil de Mr CARVALHO très agréable. Le seul petit bémol est le stationnement des véhicules qui est très compliqué. Nous recommandons cette location même hors saison, comme ce fut le cas pour nous.

Une semaine parfaite à Afife

La maison d'Antonio est très calme et bénéficie d'un magnifique jardin. C'est une vraie maison de famille bien équipée et chaleureuse. Nous avons été accueillis et conseillés pour profiter au mieux de la région. Les plages sont belles, plutôt sauvages et assez peu fréquentées. Nous recommandons vivement cette location.

Gelungener Aufenthalt

Freundlicher Empfang zur verabredeten Zeit. Gute Erklärung zum Haus und Aufenthalt sowie Tipps für Unternehmungen, Essen, Einkäufen. Ausstattung des Hauses war komplett, insbesondere in der Küche fehlte nichts, großer Garten, sehr gemütlich. Wir empfehlen dieses Haus sehr gerne weiter.

Perfect holiday

We spent one week in Antonios beautiful house and really enjoyed it. The house is well very well equiped and the garden with its view to the sea and the sunset is sensationell. The kids loved the table football a lot as well as the bodyboards we were allowed to use. The beaches are near as well as nice cities to visit. Antonio is a very kind and helpful host. We would definitely go there again!

A perfect week in the house of Antonio

We spent a perfect week iin the house of Antonio. Everything from the first to the last day of our holidays was perfect. When we made the booking we still didnt know exactly how many people we would be during our stay. But it wasnt a problem at all to add two more people afterwards. Even we were 9 people, there was enough space for all of us, enough towels, enough linen, in the kitchen everything was perfect, in the bathroom even a washing machine, a bed for the baby,..... We spent beautiful days in the amazing garden having barbecue, getting some fresh fruits of all the trees, for children it´s perfect and for adults as well. In walking distance you find great beaches, the old part of Afife is really nice, the nature around the house is beautiful. We were allowed to use all the leisure facilities, including the surfboard. There is enough space to park the car and the view of the house is also beautiful. All the nine of us were completely satisfied with our holidays and we can recommend the house warmly. We will come back for sure. Thank you Antonio for the nice time.

A perfect week in Antonio's house

We spent a perfect week in the beautiful house of Antonio. The house is nicely renovated and there is everything you need in the kitchen, a washing machine and enough towels and linen (even for nine people). The garden is beautiful perfect for children and adults with a nice barbecue and all these beautiful trees. The location is perfect for everybody who likes the ocean and the nature. Antonio is a great host. He welcomed us and showed us around when we arrived. We could use everything in the house including the surfboard and all the leisure facilitys. All the nine of us were perfectly happy with our hoildays and we can highly recommend spending time over there. We will definitivly come back!

Pfingsten 2015

Wir haben einen wunderbaren Urlaub in Afife verbracht. Das Ferienhaus ist sauber, stilvoll und sehr gut ausgestattet mit allem was man braucht. Der Garten ist riesig und wunderschön. und die Terrasse vor dem Haus ideal, um möglichst viele Mahlzeiten im Freien einzunehmen. Das Haus ist ruhig gelegen, man kann dem Rauschen des Meeres lauschen. Eigentlich will man gar nicht mehr nach Hause... Die Strände, die direkt vor Afifes Küste gelegen sind, sind tolle, endlose Sandstrände mit naturbelassenen Dünen (Praia da Arda und Praia de Afife). Weil wir an Pfingsten da waren, hatten wir die Strände fast für uns alleine. Der Praia de Afife hat einen Süßwasserzufluss, so dass dort an der Düne ein Wasserbecken entsteht, das für kleine Kinder zum Baden geeignet ist. Ein ganz toller Küstenabschnitt, mit eher bretonischem Charakter, liegt nur ein paar Kilometer südlich von Afife: Dort am Praia de Carreco beginnt eine Küstenrundwanderung von ca. 2 h mit diversen Stationen (Leuchtturm, Mühlen, steinzeitliche Steinritzungen...) und wunderbaren Ausblicken. Wir haben außerdem Städte im Hinterland besucht (Braga und Guimaraes). An der Küste haben wir nur Viana do Castelo geschafft - unsere Söhne wollten immer ans Meer, so dass wir Porto, dass wir eigentlich unbedingt sehen wollten, erst beim nächsten Mal anschauen werden. Wir wollen auf jeden Fall wiederkommen. Das Haus ist einfach toll, die Portugiesen sind supernett, Einkaufen in den Supermärkten hat ohne portugiesisch zu können problemlos geklappt. Und nicht zu vergessen: Der Kontakt mit dem Vermieter Antonio ist sehr angenehm und äußerst unkompliziert. Wir waren zu fünft (2 Erwachsene und 3 Jungs von 11 bis 14) und dafür war das Haus sehr großzügig. Der Tischkicker war abends im Dauereinsatz. Wir können das Ferienhaus von Antonio nur empfehlen.

great holiday week

We just spend a very relaxing week in this nice holiday house. It is very spacious and cosy at the same time, with many opportunities to sit outside and inside the house. Upon arrival the house was very clean and even some basic material for in the kitchen & bathroom (herbs, soap, washing dertergent) was readily available, which made you feel very welcome. The garden is huge and great to wander around, to relax or even to play football. The environment is very quiet, at night you get to sleep with the sound of the turning waves through the window. Even when the sun is warm, there is a constant fresh wind blowing, which makes it very pleasant to move around and still be able to do some physical acticities. The beach is close by and within walking distance. Although the Atalntic ocean is quite rough, on one of the beach close by, there was a sort of lagune where our children could savely swim and play endlessly with beachboards that where there for use in the house. In addition, the supermarket was within 5 min driving distance and was open from 9 to 9 every day. The owner was extremely friendly and quick in communication and explained all the facilities very well and was very open to anything we may need during our stay. During this week, apart from frequent visits to the beach, we also visted some nice cities in the environment like Viano do Castelo and Ponte de Lima and we did a few walks. In addition, there was a large swimming pool close by with several big slides on which our children had a lot of fun. Therefore, we can recommend this house for a very nice and relaxing family holiday!!

Great home away from home

We stayed in the house for 4 nights and were very pleased with everything - from the first contact with the owner (he replied very quickly to all our requests) until the day of check-out. The house is perfect for 2 couples (and maybe 2 Kids) with 2 double rooms and 1 room with a bunk bed - the matrasses are a bit hard though. It is well equipped with a washing machine, iron/iron board and dishwasher and all Kind of kitchen stuff such as a citrus press, microwave and beautiful crockery from Portugal. Nice living room with tv and CD/DVD Player for rainy days (a German channel would have been nice to watch the News). Large outside area with a small BBQ, a lot of outside furniture and huge garden with fruit trees where you can pick your own lemons and figs. We can highly recommend this house and we will come back for sure!

Local muito agradável, em ambiente rural, calmo, e, ao mesmo tempo, muito próximo de todas as necessidades da vida moderna, com a praia muito próxima. A casa é muito confortável e com todos os equipamentos necessários a uma estadia de qualidade. Possui, ainda um optimo espaço exterior, com optima orientação solar, um belo terreno bem tratado, com pomar e um ambiente exterior de grande qualidade. O proprietário é muito cortês e simpático. Recomendamos vivamente!

The ideal choice for a restful holiday, taking advantage of the proximity to sea / beaches (Afife), mountains (Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês), cities of great beauty and historical interest / cultural (Viana do Castelo, Ponte de Lima, Caminha, Braga , Guimarães). 80 kms from Porto and the famous Port Wine Cellars.
30 kms from Spain (1h to Santiago Compostela)
