All the rooms in Satori Ocean House have wide openings on both the north and south sides with inviting views and refreshing cross breezes. As you sit at breakfast you will look in one direction to dramatic oceanside cliffs, pummeled by waves and sea spray metres high. Turning to the other direction you will see white capped surf finding its way to a beautiful sandy bay lined with coconut trees. In the evening you can sit on the rooftop patio and watch the sun set over the hills and marvel at the wide expanse of the Atlantic Ocean around you.
The house has a Main Unit and 3 Studio Rooms each of which have their own private entrance and private patio and pool. These rooms are independent and private and there are no shared spaces.
The Main Unit is the feature unit of the House, with a full kitchen and large open living room, laundry room and bedroom with private bath and outdoor shower. The living space opens to patios north and south and adjoins a 60' pool spanning the length of the living area. The kitchen has a full sized stove, oven, dishwasher and a large island with seating for 10. A rooftop patio beckons for early morning yoga sessions and evening drinks as the sun sets over the hills of St Lucia.
The Studio Rooms are spacious and each have a private entrance, kitchenette with 4 burner rangetop, toaster oven, sink and fridge, and a private bathroom which features an outdoor shower. French doors open to the north patio and glass folding doors open the space to the south patio and your own private plunge pool.
The house is ideal for groups of up to 8 people occupying the Main Unit and up to 3 Studio Rooms, and sharing the main living space, kitchen and rooftop patio. The Studio Rooms offer members of the group full privacy and the ability to have breakfast or other meals on their own when desired. Alternatively the rooms can be booked individually, each with private access and self-sufficient with kitchen facilities, bathroom and direct access to the pool. See the associated VRBO property ID #752956 for booking studio rooms independently.
We have been travelling to St Lucia regularly for over 10 years. The island quickly became our favourite Caribbean destination and we fell in love with the island, the friendly people, and the consistent wind as we are avid kiteboarders. This led to the purchase of a lot and the opportunity to build our dream home, a modern style concrete structure with expansive spaces which are one with the outdoors. We employed Architect John Hix, well known for his Caribbean projects, to design the house, and used local contractors to build it.
The lot inspired us from the moment we set foot on it. Perched on a peninsula overlooking the serenity of the Atlantic Ocean it has an instant calming effect. The captivating views in every direction, the neighbouring sandy beach and the constant cooling sea breeze all conspired to convince us to purchase the land.
This house was just breathtaking! I've looked at plenty of photos, and it looked exactly like the photos but even better! The house doesn't have A/C like it clearly says, but you won't need it! The fans and the natural breeze cools down the place a lot! My only complain was that there were A LOT of millipedes. I hate bugs of any sort, so my husband had to kill a bunch for me. No big deal, though. It was expected since we were in the great outdoors. The road to the house was rough, but it's so worth it. After spending a day at crowded Castries, it's nice to have a place to stay that is remote and quiet. Will definitely stay here again when we visit St. Lucia! Also, Lucy and Gibbs were so helpful. They definitely show that they care for you and want you to have an enjoyable time. 5 stars for service and 5 stars for an amazing house!
I agree with one of the other reviewers, in that “glamping” comes to mind when I think of the Satori House. Natural beauty with all of the benefits a modern home could offer. Well, almost, the environmental “air-conditioning” took a little getting used to, but the ocean breezes and sounds of crashing waves made that all worthwhile, and reminded us to be appreciative of nature’s beauty.
Our hosts, Lucy, Gibbs and Crystal were very welcoming, attentive to our needs and easily reached when necessary. We encountered a few maintenance issues along the way, which were addressed accordingly. We also enjoyed talking with the changing guards and pampering the “guard” dogs.
We were a little disappointed with the selection at the local fish market, which was sparse to say the least. We planned our trip around the recommended 3:00pm time frame, however, there were only two fresh fish and a couple of frozen lobsters to be had. Disappointed, but perhaps our timing was just not in sync with the locals.
There were only a handful of local restaurants, but they were quite good for the nights we just wanted to get out and check out the local scene. But our favorite meals were those we prepared in the Satori modern kitchen, soaking in the tropical breezes and gorgeous views.
We ventured out a couple of times to go sailing and snorkeling by the Pitons and then another day, zip-lining above the rain forest. Both excursions were well worth the hour or so drive, dodging the aggressive local drivers and traversing the unfamiliar, but beautifully lush terrain.
If you’re looking for the utmost in privacy and being at one with nature, this is the home for you.
Happy Glampers – June 2016
I am struggling to put into words how great of a place this is. When reading other people’s reviews, I am always the skeptic thinking “yes, but….” There is no “but”; it really is as good as advertised/reviewed.
The house, the location and the total experience was ideal for a private getaway for two. We stayed for a week in the main unit and the other three studios were not occupied so we were really able to experience splendid isolation.
A few details to add for those fellow skeptics out there: 1) Air Conditioning – as clearly written there is none. This was my biggest concern as we are from Texas and thoroughly spoiled with a/c at every turn. The lack of a/c is really no big deal. The design of the house (brilliant!) and the trade winds take care of the cooling. It is a bit warm to be sure, but the pool is the perfect solution. It rained briefly every day and the pool water was topped off every day from the rainfall and was an ideal temp. 2) Bumpy/Rocky Road – yep, it sure is. We had a small 4 wheel drive and it was perfect. A small car could also work, but some of the roads on other parts of the island were where the 4wd was also useful. I would recommend renting the 4wd option. 3) Gas grill on the patio – not mentioned anywhere else on the website or review. There is one. It is a good quality Weber. I used it every day. Great for grilling the fresh fish from the fish market (recommended!). 4) Lucy (the house manager) really is a terrific host and resource. She met us at the airport, showed us the fish market and the grocery store, on the drive from the airport to the house. I emailed her in advance to ask if she could stock a few items in the house prior to our arrival. She graciously did this and it was perfect. We had occasion to meet her husband Gibbs as well and they are genuinely great people. Terrific ambassadors for St. Lucia. 5) The dogs – Zia and puppy. Great, unobtrusive, well behaved additions to the experience. They stay outside and are happy to walk with you, but are otherwise on their own. Even if you are not a dog person, you will be drawn to them.
I have run out of available space to write more (actually had to edit down my review and reformat.. sorry MLA!). SUMMARY: Great place. Go there. I hope that you enjoy as much as we did.
We stayed over the week of July 4th. So I will get to the bad part first - because of the time of year, it was VERY hot and humid. Also, there is no air conditioning in the house but the wind keeps it very comfortable. However, even with the wind, we did sweat a lot. The pool was a great way to cool off.
Now for the good part - absolutely gorgeous scenery, great house, and very private. The house is at the end of a long dirt road. There is another house next door but you never see it when looking out from the inside of the house so it does not obstruct the views. The views are amazing! There is also great hiking all around the house with a beach that is only a 5 minute walk away.
The best way we could describe the Satori house is glamping - glamour camping. The worlds best camping accommodations on the world best camp site! The doors are always open to take in the wind so you always feel like you are outside. Even the showers are outside. At night, you fall asleep to the sound of the crashing waves and the wind. Another bonus of the wind is NO MOSQUITOS. You do not have to sleep under a mosquito net like you do on the west side of the island.
If you love being close to the outdoors, privacy, and amazing views, the Satori House is for you. If you like being pampered at a resort with lots of people around, this is definitely not the place for you.
We absolutely loved our time at the Satori House and will definitely stay there again.
Also, Lucy the house manager is great!
My husband and I stayed in the main house for 9 nights. Lucy and her daughter were at the airport to meet us (on time). We stopped at the grocery store first and then followed them to the house. As other guests have stated, the pictures do not begin to prepare you for the reality of the magnificent setting. It is everything the others have said and more. Our stay was by far the most relaxing aMy husband and I stayed in the main house for 9 nights. Lucy and her daughter were at the airport to meet us (on time). We stopped at the grocery store and then followed them to the house. As other guests have stated, the pictures do not begin to prepare you for the reality of the magnificent setting. It is everything the others have said and more. Our stay was by far the most relaxing, most wonderful vacation we have ever experienced. We have visited several other Islands, and have enjoyed them, but Saint Lucia and Satori Ocean House far exceeded anything else we have ever experienced. The house, the pool and the setting are such that we never wanted to leave! We did take a few day trips to Castries, Soufriere and Margoit Bay. We also drove through many of the villages along the way, but we're always happy to get "home" to our private paradise. On the days we stayed home, we took long walks to spectacularly beautiful beaches where my husband happily fished and I read and swam. Zia, the amazing security pup accompanied us on every walk, barking the few times we ran into someone, just as a warning that he was our protector. (By the way, we left bones for Zia in the freezer, please reward him with those when you are there! You can get more in the frozen meat section at the IGA in Vieux Fort). Some evenings we grilled fresh fish from the fish market in Vieux Fort for dinner, and sometimes we ate at The Reef (on the beach in Vieux Fort). All of the people we met on the island were friendly and welcoming, including the locals in the grocery store. (another reviewer mentioned he was stared at, we did not find that at all)! Lucy, Gibbs and Crystal were warm and welcoming people, who truly cared about our experience at the house and on their Island. The few times they called to check in on us were appreciated. They even came before we left for the airport to say goodbye! The security guards were very friendly too. We enjoyed stopping on our walks to chat with them. In case you don't already gatherd from everything I have said, I highly recommend this property!!
This house is amazing if you are trying to leave the real world behind and hang out on your own cliff for a while.. The style and decor is modern to the T and driving the rocky road 10 min to the house is truly unique and personifies the seclusion perfectly. As many have mentioned, standing in the kitchen and staring in either direction is incredible; countless whitewater waves or and endless blue over the pool are your choices. The starry sky is pretty remarkable as well, though a nearby lighthouse probably takes a bit of the brilliance from that.
The ceiling overhang onto the pool deck is a great spot to do pullups, also swam laps in the long pool and ran some hilly roads. There should also be a super sweet pineapple growing around the end of 2017 after i planted one in the front garden because the mini ones they have are so delicious, so if you're around at that time, you're welcome. Be a bit wary in the grocery stores if you are white, the people in that area seem to have never seen many tourists and will stare obnoxiously like you are some kind of zoo animal. When you head more north there seems to be much less of that kind of thing.
Lucy was late getting to us at the airport, so we totally had to fend for ourselves for a while. Other than that she was nice but really didnt have to call just to check up. I truly use vrbo to get away from the nuances of "front desk" type interactions and they could have done without the check-ins. The initial directions are essential though as you could never find the place on your own.
The wifi doesnt work in the bedroom. And i think there isnt a tv though it doesnt matter because you wont want to watch one anyway. The owners daughter lives in one of the studios and is super nice and helped us with figuring out the coffee maker.
Security is great but they will come inside to either close the doors or fix up the pool area and do other maintenance type things with water drainage and such so be aware it isnt totally hands off like some places may be.
TLDR: awesome modern cliffside house, helpers can be a bit bothersome, super secluded, grab a fresh pineapple in 2017
St. Lucia is famous for its scenery. Rent a car and drive along the coastline. You will be amazed how many bays with little islets and hidden beaches you will discover. Take some time to hike and explore the tropical rainforest that covers a large area of the island.
St. Lucia is an ideal kiteboarding and windsurfing destination with consistent trade winds and conditions which will satisfy everyone from beginner to expert.
