Old house with garden, near the river Douro, for 4 people (+2)
- english, french, spanish, portuguese
We like the yellow leaves falling from the trees, we like the wind, we like the little ideas, we like the power that each one of us has to transform the world, we like utopia and freedom, we like it when one stranger helps another, we like to travel with a book, to work the soil, to make plants grow, to create objects, we like difference and diversity, we like very small things and very, very big things and we like what they have in common. We like the fast moments that linger in time. We like metamorphoses and the power of change. We like convictions and goodwill. We like imagination and creativity. We like justice, we like equality. We like the past and uninteresting stories. We like to separate what is essential from what is not and to define priorities. We value the ability to put ourselves in the place of others, whether they are from the past or from the future, neighbors or foreigners, whether they are people with different beliefs, animals, plants or aliens. We like the people we like we like meeting new people. As hosts, we like to help our guests get to know things, but we take pride in respecting their quietness and privacy.
Owner purchased this House in 2001
Why Owner chose Vila Nova de Gaia
We bought this property because we fell in love with the building: because it is old, because it offers not only an outdoor area but also a garden and a yard where we can grow our own food. Because despite being close to the city, it allows us to sleep quietly, surrounded by silence, as if we lived in the countryside. Because we can go out for a walk without needing a car. Because here there are still good neighborly relations, because it is a place with history and it’s surrounded by beautiful natural spaces. Because it is a unique house situated in a village with its own identity.
What makes this House unique
What makes this a unique place? You can visit several nearby cities: not only Porto, the closest one, but also Guimarâes, Braga, Vila do Conde and Viana do Castelo) and, when coming back, you can eat and sleep as if you were in the countryside. You may also decide to do nothing, just stay reading, relaxing, enjoying nature, walking …
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Very old property but homely. Everything you need in the kitchen for self catering.
The property is in a residential area on a steep slope. Parking is a couple of minutes away on the roadside. The river is a 5 minute walk downhill with a newly built promenade. Very quiet area. A 10-15 minute walk to Avintes whereby there are a few restaurants, 2 supermarkets and a petrol station. The house is well equipped, there is no air conditioning but there is a stand alone fan. The fridge and television could do with updating. Teresa and Pedro are very welcoming. Car is essential if you want to go to Porto or the surrounding area.
Maison bien conviviale
A very kind and awesome place
We spent wonderful days in this house and garden in Avintes. Our hosts were very kind, there was some food when we arrived, they gave us bread and fruits and recommended things to do and places to see - everything was perfect - even the cats in the garden. Thank you very much.

Empfehlenswert!
Thank you Rolf!
Casa do Mestrinho is located on the left bank of the river Douro, in Avintes, Espinhaço, an old fisherman's place, with semi-rural characteristics.
Laocated near the Douro River (National Ecological Reserve), there is an extensive leisure area nearby close to the river beach with bathing areas, lifeguards and support infrastructure, where you can enjoy the sun, beach and swim.
With a picnic area, a pedestrian and cycle path, an anchorage, a pier and fishing spot, this is the perfect place for hiking, running, cycling, fishing and water sports.
The house is located 10 minutes away from the main highways that connect the north to the south of Portugal. For those traveling by plane, Pedras Rubras Francisco Sá Carneiro airport is 30 km away. We advise you to arrive by car since public transport is time consuming and scarce. There are parking spaces on the street, free of charge.
For those who want to visit Porto and the north of Portugal using public transportation, you can park the car in Vila Nova de Gaia, where you can easily access the metro, the train or the bus services.
Avintes is a village with a very characteristic identity. Suffice it to say that it is considered the capital of amateur theater and that it is the place of the country with the highest concentration of cultural, recreational and sports amateur associations. In Avintes we breathe another air!
The locals are quite friendly, helpful and welcoming. In this traditional village cooperation, solidarity and good neighborhood relations are still preserved and valued.
