A Slice of Heaven!!!
My girlfriend and I stayed at Casa Madera for 5 nights in March 2018. We had been looking forward to escaping the cold for three months and had high expectations based on the photos and reviews. Our expectations were absolutely blown away.
First and foremost, Janelle and Dan (property managers) were absolutely amazing. They accommodated every request that we had (stocked groceries, set up rides for us to and from the airport, met us at arrival to give us a run down on the house/area, made sure that our stay was as comfortable as possible etc.). They are truly great people that are service oriented without making you feel that someone is checking in on you. I really can't say enough about those two and how they enriched our experience. You won't find a better team anywhere!
The house is absolutely amazing. The location and design is second to none. My girlfriend and I prefer to cook at home most of the time and this house was the absolute perfect location to do so. The deck provided great relief from the 95 degree weather when we needed it and there is truly no better place to have your morning cup of coffee.
We went to Los Cordones a few times and the staff, location, and general atmosphere was top notch.
I'm usually reluctant to give such a glowing review for a location that is so undeveloped and non touristy out of fear that word of mouth will change the dynamic at the location however, the house, Los Cordones, and especially Janelle and Dan were too good to keep to ourselves!
We met locals and visitors alike and all were sincerely genuine and happy to share tips, stories, or a drink. If you are looking for an off the beaten path location to surf, soak up the sun, and meet some cool people, this is the spot.
We are making plans for a future trip with family and friends. Next time, we'll definitely go on a charter fishing trip with Dan!!!
This was hands down, the best VRBO experience we have ever had! If it appeals to you at all, you won't be disappointed!
Beautiful setting, beautiful house.
Lovely all wood house right on the beach. In the morning the air right in front was filled with hundreds of dragonflies. The sound of the waves fills days and nights. Sunsets a highlight. Two kids got up surfing, lessons and boards available 100 yards up the beach at Las Cordones Ecolodge a good place to visit during the heat of the afternoon--has a book library, ping pong table, hammocks, surfing rentals, a fat bike, cooking classes and massage, and a nice restaurant for meals or snacks. Kids loved the pizza. Janelle was accessible and very helpful before and during our visit. The house is well stocked, washing machine, shampoo, soap, TP, water, and a well equipped kitchen.
HOT--39 Celsius on the car thermometer when we drove down but we we did visit in the hot part of the dry season!
No AC, but fans kept us asleep at night though.
VERY quiet and private when we were there, often had a large section of beach to ourselves.
It's 45 minutes to a PALI grocery store so if possible take enough food for the stay.
Boogie boards for bodysurfing would be a nice add on.
Wonderful Place to Chill
Just spend a week at this wonderful two bedroom beach house over Christmas, and it was amazing. House is a quality build and has an amazing view of the ocean. We did very little but relax so I now have a long list of things to do when I return (horseback riding on beach, massage, surfing, fishing, golf at near by resort, trip to Volcanos, biking on beach). The house is well situated between the Los cardones eco resort which can supply you will meals, massages, ice cold beers and the Mind the Gap hostel/Gran Pacifica resort which offer other options for beers and meals. We chose to load up on groceries in Managua and did most meals at the house. Kitchen has all your need--just be prepared to bring your own spices etc.. The beautiful covered deck is the hub of activity or napping. The surf is wonderful and beach is endless. There is no hot water(not needed) or air conditioning but these are really not important when you are in this piece of paradise. Janelle is a rock star hostess who will connect you with whatever you need from taxi rides to antibiotics. Amazing to have her there to help you pull the pieces of your holiday together in whatever way you want. All in all a wonderful house in a beach side community where relaxation is easy.
We stayed in Casa Madera for almost 3 weeks, and would gladly have stayed longer! The house is simple, unique, and contemporary. With jungle and beach on three sides, and the neighboring house an agreeable distance away, Casa Madera has a very private, quiet feel. Inside, high ceilings and huge screened windows make the interior feel spacious and cool, and the many fan options allowed us to create breezes when there were no natural ones; we would not have used air conditioning even if it were available. The kitchen was functional and well-stocked with pots & pans, dishes, blenders etc., and cleaning supplies (we brought in our own cooking basics even down to salt and pepper, so check ahead of time with property manager Janelle to know what is already in the cupboards). Do take note, though, that there is no outdoor BBQ/Grill. Casa Madera's porch is simply the place to be---many seating options, hammocks, and fantastic panoramic exposure to the beach and surf. Nice outdoor shower just down the steps, too! The only design element of the house that we found a bit odd was that bathrooms were not fully closed off from their respective bedrooms (to be clear: there is a full wall, open above, between the master bathroom and the master bedroom but no door; and the house's second bathroom does have a door but shares a full wall, open above, with the second bedroom) and so noises such as the flushing of a toilet etc., can be very much heard in the adjoining room. BUT (no pun intended), this would not keep us from renting again and we do very much hope to return to the awesome Casa Madera!!!!
Our family of 4 spent our Thanksgiving holiday at this beautiful ocean front property and we are so thankful for every minute of it! Janelle manages the property and she made every aspect of our travels seamless. We arrived at the airport in Managua where we were picked up by a driver that she had arranged for us as well as stopping at a large grocery store to stock up on food for the week on our way to the property. The property is a simple, yet beautiful two bedroom two bath with a kitchen, living room and deck that has 2 hammocks, chairs and outdoor dining with views of the ocean and beach that are just steps out the back door. We woke early and spent our mornings surfing, then back to the house or the nearby resort of Los Cardones for breakfast. The days were spent reading and relaxing in the hammocks, swimming in the ocean and visiting with other guests nearby, then back to the ocean for a sunset surf. Los Cardones is just steps away and you can rent surf boards, get massages, eat meals, do yoga and more. If you want to relax and unwind, this is your place! Janelle checked in on us and did some extra grocery shopping for us throughout the week and planned our ride back to the airport at the end of the stay. We will come back again and again!
A wonderfully relaxing, beautiful and fun beach retreat!
I stayed at Casa Madera with my husband and two teen boys, aged 15 and 14. We LOVED it! The pictures are exactly what you'll find, plus two bedrooms both facing the ocean, and two bathrooms nicely sized and with good modern facilities. There's no hot water, but it's not needed and not missed.
Janelle helps with advice and answers questions from before the time you book all the way through to the end with a refreshingly prompt return of the damage deposit. She's a huge asset, friendly, responsive, and so very helpful! She arranged rides to and from the airport for us and also a sweet woman who cooked us dinner one night.
The house - all beautiful soft-underfoot wood, the deck is generous and a perfect hangout, the whole house is right there on the beach, the beach feels like your own private playground. Most of the time, we had the whole stretch to ourselves, sometimes we could see people enjoying the beach in front of Los Cardones. The occasional horse, runner, surfer, or walker would go by.
And Los Cardones, just 1.5 or 2 minutes walk down the beach, is great. Here you have your own private house, but if you want to rent surfboards, take a lesson, take a yoga class, ride horses, eat food you dont have to prepare yourselves, or even just talk with friendly people, Los Cardones is a fabulous resource conveniently nearby.
The ocean temperature was perfect for hot days and the one rainy cooler afternoon evening we had. The waves were a perfect playground for us beginner surfers to get our ability to the next level. And fun enough for much more able surfers whom we got to watch.
What else to say? We spent our week barefoot and in swimsuits. The last day we figured we should go out the front door at least once to see what was on the other side of the house.
Now... we want to go back!!
