About the property

Our Dewey Beach House

This recently renovated family beach-house has 5 bedrooms, 2 ½ bathrooms, an outdoor shower, and plenty of parking to make for a fantastic vacation at the beach! Located on the beach block, it is easy to walk back any time during the day to get a drink or a snack to take to the beach! Take your coffee down in the morning and watch the dolphins; then come back mid-day to read under an umbrella. Return a third time in the evening with the kids to fly a kite!

This is our family’s beach-house; we rent to other families in the summer when we do not use it. With 5 bedrooms, it is perfect for a large family, two families or a family traveling with extended family. The house sleeps 11. The owner lives in Rehoboth Beach and the house is well maintained. We rent to mature, responsible adults only!! NO party rentals!

To make life easier for YOU, we rent weekly with check-in on SUNDAY. This means that you will avoid the terrible Saturday traffic when the majority of the renters are arriving and departing. So you will have a better start and end to your vacation, and effectively more time on the beach!

The entire first floor was renovated in 2017; the kitchen is well planned and provides all you need! There is a large dining table as well as island that is handy for food preparation or relaxing with a drink after a day in the sun. There is also plenty of room to relax on the couch or do a puzzle with family!

The house has 5 bedrooms and two full baths on the second floor. (1) A large master bedroom with a queen bed and a private bath with tub/shower. (2) Another very large bedroom with a queen bed and a set of twin bunk beds. (3) Smaller bedroom with a double bed. (4) Identical smaller bedroom with another double bed. And (5) a smaller bedroom with a twin bed. The second full bath with a shower is also on the second-floor hall. In addition, there is an outdoor shower which is very convenient for rinsing off the sand and salt after a day at the beach. Put a bottle of shampoo out there and you will be all set! In addition to the bedrooms, there is a screened porch off the second floor. There is parking for 3 standard-sized vehicles in front of the house; you could squeeze a 4th into the garage and a 5th under the porch in back if necessary. If you have additional vehicles, a parking permit can be purchased from Dewey Beach Town hall.

Not only is this beach house convenient to the beach, there are LOTS of great restaurants within walking distance in Dewey Beach as well as a Jolly Trolly stop at the end of the street! You can leave your car parked and ride into Rehoboth on the Jolly Trolly if you want to enjoy the Boardwalk there; no need to worry about parking at that end!

Bedding summary: 2 Queen beds, 2 Full (double) beds, 1 bunk with 2 twin beds, 1 twin bed. Sleeps 11.

This house was perfect for our family vacation. Just a short distance to the beach and the heart of Dewey. Also a short Jolly Trolly ride to the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk. The owners have thought of everything when furnishing this house. The covered porch was a godsend when the younger folks took over the main TV area. Would love to rent again.

A Spring Weekend at the Beach

This beach house was perfect for a get-a-way weekend for friends! We were on the beach block and within walking distance to many mom and pop shops and restaurants in Dewey as well as walking distance from Rehoboth Bay. We were also able to go up to the Tanger Outlets that were just a few mile up the road.

The house had some older features but the bathrooms were just updated with new everything, and especially liked the newly tiled floors and new vanities. The house was very clean and tastefully decorated. There was plenty space for us to each have a bed and the back screened in porch was perfect for enjoying the ocean breeze with our evening card games.

The attached outdoor shower was convenient for rinsing off the sand and helped us keep the sand out of the house. We were able to easily walk and drive down to the boardwalk to enjoy the shops and activities there (the Funland has good rides for children and adults), and the walk was only a mile in each direction.

We enjoyed several restaurants in the area including Grotto Pizza which is walkable and an awesome sandwich shop (NIcks) just a block south of the house! On the same block, just a stones throw from the front door there's also a wonderful salad place for those that like their veggies! And, there are several little surf shops that had plenty of whatever you might need for the waves and the sun.

An activity we enjoyed was getting a permit for a bonfire on the beach! We had a ton of fun with s'mores and the sand and the surf! It was really easy to get the permit at the Dewey Beach Town Hall (everything is cash though) and you end up paying less than $20. after you get your deposit back.

We had a great weekend and I'm glad we chose this house because it was so centrally located and was very reasonably priced for it's location! I would definitely come back and I have recommended it to all my family members and friends!

About Harry Wilson

We have many years of Dewey Beach memories. Dave Vaughn (now in his late 70's) went to Dewey Beach as a teenager. He married Margo Vaughn in 1956; Margo had been to Dewey Beach every summer since she was a baby. Dave and Margo took their 7 kids to Dewey Beach every summer until they left the house. Dave and Margo retired to Rehoboth in the 1990's but kept their beach house for their kids to use. Here is a picture of Dave and Margo, their 7 kids and 17 grandchildren.

Harry Wilson purchased this house in 1965

Why Harry Wilson chose Dewey Beach

Because Dewey Beach doesn't have high-rises and the beaches are not as crowded as neighboring beaches. There are great activities and restaurants in walking distance. Dewey Beach offers family activities during the week such as bonfires and movies on the beach.

What makes this house unique

The enclosed outdoor shower is a great treat! Walkable to many activities: restaurants, convenience stores, Dewey Beach bonfires, Dewey Beach movie on the beach, trolly stop to Rehoboth etc..

Great town; rental in walking distance to restaurants and activities

  • 5 of 5

We loved being able to walk everywhere! For dinner we walked (~2 blocks) to Dewey Beer Company (great crab cake on spinach salad) & Starboard Raw (great crab deviled eggs). We walked to lunch spots too: Salad Factory and Dagsworthy Deli. The kids loved walking for a treat: Venderwede’s, Dairy Queen, & Rita’s. In the morning, we could walk to Baked for a coffee and breakfast treats.

We went to the Dewey Beach Bonfire on the beach (also walkable – two blocks south). The Town provides the bonfire, sticks and marshmallows. The kids loved the festive atmosphere of meeting other kids and playing on the beach in the evening.

In past years, we have stayed in Dewey but driven the ~2 miles to Rehoboth for dinner. This year, we stayed in Dewey for most meals and entertainment – and could walk from the rental. Dewey and Rehoboth have different feels. Rehoboth has gotten very crowded, and this rental provided walking access to restaurants and activities w/out the Rehoboth crowds.

I walked to Rehoboth during the day; beach “spots” were at least 5 rows deep in Rehoboth where Dewey was 2-3 rows deep. I’ll be back to Dewey and hopefully this rental.

The Town of Dewey Beach is going through a resurgence – changing from 1960 style homes to updated housing. This rental could use some cosmetic updates but the location can’t be beat.

Comfortable house in the heart of everything!

  • 5 of 5

Nice beach cottage in the heart of Dewey. My children like to be close to the restaurants. I like to be close to the beach -- this house is both! The kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need for a week even if you plan to cook. Main floor could use some updating, but everything is clean, working, and comfortable. Upstairs bathrooms have been recently remodeled. The house has 5 bedrooms (perfect for my large family), but 3 of the rooms are small (double bed) and it would be tight for 2 adults to share the double bed rooms (keep that in mind!). We would definitely like to rent from again! Thanks for a great week!!!

Great beach house for families!

  • 5 of 5

We are repeat renters & look forward to our week in Dewey every summer! This house is perfect for our large family to spread out. It is in central Dewey so our teenagers have plenty of shops / food places to visit close by. Our teenagers can pick up the Rehoboth trolly right at the end of the street. The house is beach block, which means no roads to cross for the younger children to get back to the house by themselves (makes food / bathroom trips by themselves manageable!). The upstairs baths have been remodeled. Although the kitchen is dated, it is clean & well functioning -- and the owners have thought of every convenience. There are even 2 refrigerators (we keep drinks cold in the garage fridge). It is obvious that the house is well maintained by the owners.

As soon as we get out of the car, the we & our children immediately feel on vacation. Dewey is welcoming to families. Be sure to visit Dewey's website to find out the happenings going on (movies on the beach, weekly bonfires, etc).

We highly recommend this house for families & we look forward to returning again next summer!

Centrally located house - perfect for walking to it all

  • 5 of 5

The Vaughn’s beach house was perfect for our group. My husband and son (age 12) love to walk to local restaurants to try out different food for lunch. They went to a new restaurant every day (Salad Factory, Gary’s, Scully’s, Dagsworthy Deli, etc). My daughter loved having Rita’s, Dairy Queen and Vanderwendes within two blocks. I loved having a coffee bistro nearby. I also loved that I didn’t have to spend much time at the grocery store at the start of the vacation (there is also a convenience store near this beach house).

The timing of the Sunday-Sunday check-in and check-out worked well for traffic, as well as inviting a second family to join us for the second part of our stay / weekend. The house is definitely big enough. We really enjoyed the location of the house. Because we were on the beach block, my daughter (age 10) could walk back and forth to the beach several times during the day. My son loved having wifi for brakes from the beach. In addition to being close to many great restaurants, we enjoyed being able to park our car for the week and walk to the Movie Night (Monday’s) and Bonfire Night (Wednesday’s) on the Beach. Dewey is a great family beach (not too crowded), and we plan to stay in the Vaughn’s beach house in future years.

The owner provided a book with information about restaurants and other Dewey / Rehoboth attractions that was very helpful.

Great Location, Walking Distance to everything in Dewey

  • 5 of 5

This place is in the middle of all that Dewey Beach has to offer. It's a quick walk to the beach, Grottos, Nicks and the watering holes. The Salad place is right across the street. We had plenty of room for the family. Being this close everyone was able to do what they wanted and then get back together for the next activity. Being the first one up, I really enjoyed being able to get my morning, drinking it on the beach and then getting back with everyone for breakfast.
