About Elda Brown
Property manager Elda Brown owns this charming bungalow along with her husband Kevin Jones. They live next door and are available to help you make the most out of your vacation or stay in Brevard. Elda is a local artist whose unique silk and merino wool scarves and hats can be seen at the #7 Arts and Craft Gallery at 2 W. Main St. downtown Brevard.
Elda Brown purchased this Bungalow in 2005
Why Elda Brown chose Brevard
We wanted to preserve the unique nature of our street by saving the house next door to us, which was seriously in need of some tender love and kindness. We purchased it in May and began the renovation in June 2014. Thanks to the skill and hard work of our friend, master carpenter and all-around super Mr Fix-It, Rick Mickewicz, and his wife Maryann, the Maple Street Bungalow has turned out wonderfully! We've put a lot of blood sweat and tears into fixing the house up so that our guests can visit and enjoy this town we love so much. Living downtown is so great! We can walk two blocks to the Farmer's Market where we buy our meats and vegetables directly from the farmer's who raise them. Most of the 5 and 10k road races pass right in front of the house as do groups of cyclists heading out to ride on our mountain roads. The main library is just at the end of the street. The library free live music at the outdoor amphitheater. From the fabulous front porch and the back deck of our Maple Street Bungalow you can sit and check out the white squirrels too. Come experience it and you'll see what we mean!
What makes this Bungalow unique
Ask anyone who lives in Brevard and they will tell you that Maple Street is a special location. One of the first things you are bound to hear about is Halloween on Maple Street. For years it has been a local tradition for children from all over the county have come to Trick or Treat on Maple Street and Park Avenue. So the police barricade the street and it becomes a huge street party. We set up a card table at the sidewalk to pass out candy to the hundreds of trick or treaters. Last year we gave out 1500 pieces of candy! Maybe because we live in Transylvania County we take our costumes seriously here. Everyone from adults to infants dress up. There's a Halloween Festival downtown on the Saturday before Halloween complete with a parade and there are lots of other fun events during the spooky season. The start of our festival season (and summer) is The White Squirrel Festival on Memorial Day weekend. From then on there are festivals, special events, cycling and road races going on right up until Christmas. (By the way, you can see white squirrels at play in the yard or the Maple Street Bungalow and all through the neighborhood.) We are just a 5-6 minute drive from the Brevard Music Center and a short walk to the Porter Center on the campus of Brevard College where you can see live music performances from opera to bluegrass and live theatre. Several of the bars in town have live music. We have our own local brewery downtown and some excellent restaurants and coffee shops. After a day spent hiking, kayaking, looking at waterfalls or cycling, its SO nice not to have to drive anywhere. From the Maple Street Bungalow you can walk to everything!

Best VRBO yet!
Two weeks in this lovely home was simply not enough. The owners have thought of every detail to make this renovated bungalow convenient and comfortable...truly the most well equipped for dining in and watching Netflix! Except for driving to Ingles or to visit friends the car was parked. We walked in lovely neiborhoods as well as downtown for galleries, occasional lunch out, and Kiwi gelato...and, of course, the Saturday local farmer’s market two blocks away. Kevin and Elda are the perfect hosts....we are looking forward to more porch sitting in the not too distant future.
Great little bungalow and very helpful and friendly owners
We had a great experience and thoroughly enjoyed the house. It is very well appointed and a great location for exploring Brevard and surrounding areas. Highly recommended!
Best house on the best street in the best town in western NC
We celebrated our 30th anniversary in Brevard at this great house. It was our second stay and definitely not our last.
Charming home with everything you could need. The owners are great people who make you feel so comfortable.
Sitting out on the porch is wonderful. Everyone who goes by waves and you feel part of the community right away. A few mins walk and you are in lovely downtown with shops, restaurants and beverages for any taste.
You can't go wrong with this house. By far the best place we've stayed in Brevard.
Perfect in Every Way
This house is spacious, sunny, clean, perfectly maintained and was very comfortable for our family and an easy walk to town. Loved being in this nice neighborhood next to the owners. All the home details are tastefully in place. It was clear that a lot of effort, skill and an artist's eye contributed to this lovely environment. Our stay was too short. We will be back!
We have stayed at numerous Homeaway vacation rentals, and by far this home has everything you need...and more. Immaculate, beautiful, spacious, quiet, safe and very well equipped. All of the residents we met while walking our dogs were very friendly, and the owners of this home are awesome. We loved our week-long stay and fell in love with this beautiful area of NC. We plan to come back! Don't hesitate booking this rental. It will not disappoint.

Definitely rates 5 stars plus! Looking forward to a return visit.
Our family of three had a very comfortable four-night stay and very enjoyable lunch with six local friends, enjoying this porch (pictured here) as well as the enlarged dining table and good chairs for all that the owners next door kindly provided. Many thanks to Elda and Kevin for a wonderful visit.
