About Elda Brown
Property manager Elda Brown owns this charming bungalow along with her husband Kevin Jones. They live next door and are available to help you make the most out of your vacation or stay in Brevard. Elda is a local artist whose unique silk and merino wool scarves and hats can be seen at the #7 Arts and Craft Gallery at 2 W. Main St. downtown Brevard.
Elda Brown purchased this Bungalow in 2005
Why Elda Brown chose Catheys Creek
We wanted to preserve the unique nature of our street by saving the house next door to us, which was seriously in need of some tender love and kindness. We purchased it in May and began the renovation in June 2014. Thanks to the skill and hard work of our friend, master carpenter and all-around super Mr Fix-It, Rick Mickewicz, and his wife Maryann, the Maple Street Bungalow has turned out wonderfully! We've put a lot of blood sweat and tears into fixing the house up so that our guests can visit and enjoy this town we love so much. Living downtown is so great! We can walk two blocks to the Farmer's Market where we buy our meats and vegetables directly from the farmer's who raise them. Most of the 5 and 10k road races pass right in front of the house as do groups of cyclists heading out to ride on our mountain roads. The main library is just at the end of the street. The library free live music at the outdoor amphitheater. From the fabulous front porch and the back deck of our Maple Street Bungalow you can sit and check out the white squirrels too. Come experience it and you'll see what we mean!
What makes this Bungalow unique
Ask anyone who lives in Brevard and they will tell you that Maple Street is a special location. One of the first things you are bound to hear about is Halloween on Maple Street. For years it has been a local tradition for children from all over the county have come to Trick or Treat on Maple Street and Park Avenue. So the police barricade the street and it becomes a huge street party. We set up a card table at the sidewalk to pass out candy to the hundreds of trick or treaters. Last year we gave out 1500 pieces of candy! Maybe because we live in Transylvania County we take our costumes seriously here. Everyone from adults to infants dress up. There's a Halloween Festival downtown on the Saturday before Halloween complete with a parade and there are lots of other fun events during the spooky season. The start of our festival season (and summer) is The White Squirrel Festival on Memorial Day weekend. From then on there are festivals, special events, cycling and road races going on right up until Christmas. (By the way, you can see white squirrels at play in the yard or the Maple Street Bungalow and all through the neighborhood.) We are just a 5-6 minute drive from the Brevard Music Center and a short walk to the Porter Center on the campus of Brevard College where you can see live music performances from opera to bluegrass and live theatre. Several of the bars in town have live music. We have our own local brewery downtown and some excellent restaurants and coffee shops. After a day spent hiking, kayaking, looking at waterfalls or cycling, its SO nice not to have to drive anywhere. From the Maple Street Bungalow you can walk to everything!

Great location, very comfortable with great porches to either hide from or enjoy the sun. Hosts were super.
Excellent place to stay in every way!
Very nice, conveniently located - walk to library, restaurants, shopping, etc. Short drives to great hiking, wonderful owners responsive to any need. Highly recommended! Best option in Brevard.
Cozy retreat near downtown Brevard
This 2 bedroom home is convenient to downtown and is well equipped with everything we needed for a weekend get-a-way. We parked our car in the driveway upon arriving on Friday afternoon, and did not need our car the whole weekend !!. We walked to dinner Friday night (Marcos) and Saturday night (The Square Root). On Saturday during the day we walked over to Brevard College and enjoyed exploring the campus, and then we stopped and had lunch at Mayberrys before returning to the cottage to watch an afternoon football game on TV. We booked at the last minute and the owner was very attentive and responsive to our questions and needs. The street out front is not very busy. We enjoyed our stay and would like to return in the future if possible.
Everything in this home was so comfortable and thoughtful! Thank you for a great experience!
The property was immaculate, the owners responsive and we had a wonderful time exploring the Brevard area.
A great stay in Brevard!
Our family of 5, including one toddler, found everything to be just perfect at this charming and recently renovated bungalow! Everything was comfortable and all needs were provided for, from an iron and ironing board to hair dryer, and everything in between! A short walk into downtown with great shops and restaurants! We were in town for a family wedding, but we would stay here again for another visit !
Stay downtown and walk to everything! After a day of outdoor activities you can walk to restaurants and live music venues, galleries and shopping. Our guest house is just 5 short blocks from historic downtown Brevard and a 5-6 minute drive from the Brevard Music Center. Nearby are many family activities such as hiking, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, cycling, fly fishing and tubing on the river.
