Stunning renovated 1875 contemporary loft in the heart of downtown historic vicksburg! A well appointed 'wow factor' space that comfortably sleeps 4, sweeping river views from the rooftop terrace. Walk to unique dining, shopping and historic sights. Located above a celebrated mississippi art gallery, the space is an artist's dream home. The 2,400 sq. Ft open floor plan features unique art and a blend of contemporary and antique furnishings. The loft has one king bed and one queen bed with two couches and a glider ( for those of you who are not southern, that is a daybed that swings!) a full bathroom with large shower, laundry room, full kitchen and rooftop terrace for watching the incredible sunsets. The loft is equipped with wi-fi and a security system for your added convenience and safety!
I'm a native Mississippian and a professional artist. I started my studio in 1987 in Jackson and after 20 years moved to Vicksburg. I was drawn by the historic building and the river views! My artwork reflects my love of Mississippi and its rich cultural and blues heritage.
H.C. "Chris" Porter purchased this condo in 2006
My contemporary southern loft is above my signature art gallery in historic downtown Vicksburg on the main street, Washington St. Washington St. is also the Blues Highway, Highway 61,which runs from Memphis to New Orleans. I have found Vicksburg to be a welcoming, artsy, historic and charming town. I have found my home here, but I travel often and am able to share my loft/home while I am away.
I've been told Mississippi is the last mysterious state in the Union! Vicksburg is a wonderful place to explore Mississippi's unique and historic past. My loft is 3 minutes from the National Military Civil War Park, one block above our riverfront murals, three blocks from the Court House Museum and two blocks from our Mississippi River Museum. The award winning, local shopping, dining and sightseeing is all surrounding my loft. Newly opened, the only rooftop dining/bar in Mississippi is located across the street, 10 South, with it's tenth story view of the River and downtown Vicksburg (just in case my three story private roof terrace isn't enough!) I have created an artist's dream home and it is my pleasure to share it with you!
Upon our arrival, the staff was very courteous and explained everything we needed to know for a great weekend in the Vicksburg area. The staff really made us feel at home. We enjoyed the space and look forward to staying here again in the future.
Everything was super nice. The staff, the art, the loft. Very nice getaway for a weekend, or a place to have a week long vacation.
We didn't have the opportunity to meet Chris, the owner, but Katherine was incredibly friendly and helpful to us with excellent restaurant, coffee shop, and grocery recommendations when we first arrived. The loft was very spacious and comfortable, and very nicely decorated (as one might expect when the owner also owns the gallery underneath). The furniture was comfortable, the loft was very clean, and the fully equipped kitchen allowed us to prepare all of our breakfasts and some other meals in. The loft is located in the middle of the downtown historic district, with several nice restaurants, a great coffee shop and a great bakery/lunch spot in walking distance. Parking couldn't have been easier. Only once were we unable to park directly in front of the gallery door, and on that occasion we had to park about 50 feet away - clearly a first world problem.
Things not to miss - the view from the roof top bar and restaurant at 10 South (half a block away); the fresh baked goods at The Mad Baker (1 block away); the delicious lattes and smoothies at Highway 61 coffee house (1.5 blocks away); and the very nicely seasoned and flavored entrees at Rusty's (3 blocks away); a glass of wine in the evening on the rooftop over the loft.
We loved our visit and the opportunity to experience Vicksburg and its history while meeting many very pleasant and courteous people, and will come back to the city, the gallery, and the loft again.
Thanks for being a great host.
We had a fantastic stay at Chris's loft! It is a HUGE space, with comfortable furniture and bed. We loved the location, on the old main street in Vicksburg - it felt like we were on a movie set. The roof deck was neat to relax on, as well. We would definitely recommend for a long weekend, or escape away in Vicksburg.
