I enjoy hiking and the outdoors. Prior to owning a log cabin home, I always enjoyed renting log cabins myself. It's a great way to escape the day to day routine of the city/suburban life.

NO HOT WATER and NO APOLOGY

  • 1 of 5

The cabin might have been nice but our trip was tainted by the fact that we had no hot water 3 out of the 4 days we stayed. When we arrived on Saturday afternoon, we had hot water. Sunday morning we realized we did not have it. We contacted the number given for issues, but no one was sent until the next day. The handyman that showed up told us he probably couldn't fix it and would have to call a plumber. So we went another day without hot water. We had 10 people and no way to take showers or hot water to wash dishes. We had been hiking, playing volleyball, rafting, etc in high heat and needless to say we all needed to shower. Even worse was the inability to wash dishes! Several of our group left early so they could go shower. Some of us planned to spend our last day shopping in Metamora but changed our plans because we all smelled too bad. I have contacted the owners twice to see if we could get some of our money back but never heard anything from them - not even an apology.

Enjoyable

  • 3 of 5

Our family Liked most everything about he place. A few dislikes: a lot of steps to and from main floor and Definitely need to spray entrance gate for wasps. I was bitten 7 times when opening the gate upon entering. The Schmitty family.

This cabin was PERFECT for our family reunion!

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the cleanest places I have rented and in a beautiful setting. Our family has a wide variety of food expectations so having a well equipped kitchen with up to date appliances in good working order was important and we certainly were not disappointed. Beds were comfortable and the placement of the rooms gave each couple privacy. Everything from the game room to the grill to the hot tub was perfect. There is great hiking on many trails in the area and Metamora is a darling little town. It feels like you are stepping back into a more quiet and gentle time.

The entrance from the road was a bit hard to spot but we tied some balloons on the sign which took care of that problem. Phone reception and wifi were a little erratic but we could usually move around the cabin or step outside and get service. A towel rack in the lower level bathroom would be nice. Overall our family of 11 (I suppose we would be considered seniors) loved this house.

Perfect for our family reunion!!

  • 4 of 5

We had 3 families plus grandpa & grandma at this home, kids ranging from 3 months to 12 years. There was plenty of room to spread out and with the game room and the creek we never once heard "I'm bored." The kitchen was fully stocked. I took one star off for some minor repairs needing attention but nothing that affected our stay. However we found it to be clean and comfortable. Great place highly recommend for any size group.

Five star for some things, 3 for others

  • 4 of 5

House is well built, roomy with a wonderful wraparound balcony on very private, quiet wooded property. It was good to have a full bath on every floor and bedrooms on three levels. The large recreation room is a great idea. It has a basketball game, table shuffleboard, ping pong..not pool table. Paddles are in terrible shape..bring your own.

The link on the website gives the wrong idea that the house is on Duck Creek road when the driveway is off US 52. In the cabin are pictures of the drive, exact location which should be posted on the website since the sign has faded to white and addresses are hard to read as you are traveling at 50 mph on a highway.

Wasps stung 3 of 6 adults opening/closing the gate..beware!

The kitchen needs to be refurbished and cabinet cleaned out of items left behind. There are too few glasses and the pots and pans are in bad shape....worn teflon which is carcinogenic, drawers and cabinets a mishmash. No placemats.

Appliances are good and air conditioning good.

The grill,is downstairs, not very clean and inconvenient to use.

Games are missing pieces, really no toys at all.

Linens are old and mismatched.

With a little expenditure of cash and some time , it could all be 5 star.

Metamora itself is so so but kids liked the train ride.
