This residential island is located in Buzzard's Bay, south of the Elizabeth Islands and Martha's Vineyard. Approximately half the island is a state conservation with nature trails and wild life viewing that eventually brings you out to the ocean. There is a town beach, with lifeguards, on the south side of the island. Also, on the protected side of the island, is a beach perfect for children, and within walking distance of this cottage. Or go across the street and enjoy the ocean side with sandbars to explore during low tide. It will take you 3 - 5 minutes walk to these two beaches. The town beach is about a mile away.
The island is connected by a causeway and has town water and sewer. A supermarket, pharmacy, and restaurants are located within four miles.
The cottage is quite charming. The kitchen, with hardwood floors, has been renovated with new counters, backsplash, stove, microwave, refrigerator and ceiling fan. Every item needed for cooking, baking, and planning your meals are provided. Also, dishes, glasses, wine glasses, etc. provided. Linens and towels are provided.
There are 3 bedrooms, one with a queen size bed/TV, one with double bed/TV, and a third with a twin bed. There is ample space for your clothing.
The living room is open spaced with the dining area. There are two areas for eating. The room also has a gas stove for those chilly nights early summer and early fall, which are far and few during the summer.
The bathroom has a full size tub with shower.
A washer/dryer is available in the premise to use. A gas grill and firepit is available. Also, 2 beach chairs, beach towels, beach shoes, and cart to carry it all are provided to bring to the beach.
We have added a new, private outside shower for your use.
The best for last. This cottage is special because it has an 8 x 12 foot screened in porch. It has a table with two chairs, two other chairs, a chaise, and a wooden swing. The lighted clam shells at night along the ceiling adds to the ambience. Great for the times you want to be outside yet not in the sun, or covered from the rain. Also, no worry of insects at night. The house is also equipped with a front porch with two adirondack chairs.
We are so fortunate to now have many guests return to this lovely cottage. We offer bookings in January and it is often booked by summer and we have to turn many away. Book your retreat soon.
I have been coming to this island for over 40 years. My parents lived here during their retirement years. My husband and I now live here also, just across the street from this rental.
Alice & Jim Walczak purchased this cottage in 2006
We bought this home because of the many happy summers I had at my parent's house.
It is quite unique because it has a screened in porch with a comfy swing to watch the sunset in the distance. You can eat out here, relax, or just enjoy some quiet time. At night, the clam lights add to the ambiance of the the place. You will fall in love with this place as we did. Beach is within walking distance around the corner, fire pit in the yard, swing attached to the tree limb, and just summer living. Thank you.
It is a quaint little cottage that had everything you needed to be comfortable and relaxed. Everything worked properly and was neat and clean. We were pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of a washer and dryer and we used it to bring home clean clothes. Cable TV, wifi access, fire pit, gas grill and a very nice screened in porch gave us everything necessary for a pleasant stay. We also had access to an informational binder detailing everything about the property, how to use everything available, and menus from various local restaurants. Over all a very pleasant and rewarding experience.
Everything worked. The backyard porch and BBQ area was great. Rooms were a bit small with limited privacy but ok for me and my two grown sons. Great, quiet location with easy access to beach.
We stayed a week here. The accommodations are nicely appointed. Plenty of room in the common areas. The bathroom is lovely clean, and well done. There is plenty of storage in the bedrooms, and any kitchen item you could possibly need. The back yard has a good fire pit and a great outdoor shower. The grill is high end and very easy to use. One of the best features is the screened porch. Great place to hang out or watch a storm go by. Two beaches are in close walking distance and the town beach is beautiful. It was generally very relaxing and felt like island life while we were here . Even though it was just the two of us, this would be a great location for a young family. We look forward to going back next summer.
The cottage is perfectly located a short walk to two beaches on either side of the causeway, as well as within walking distance to the island's general store. If looking for a beach with a lifeguard and restrooms, there is the town beach on the island just a short drive down the road which you can pay resident fees for if you just let them know you are renting locally. Alice and Jim added some nice touches to make the trip special, from wood for a fire to a bottle of wine, and even homemade cookies on a dish to keep in memory of the trip. They even hung an infant swing for our son to use. There are restaurants within driving distance, but we did most of our own cooking on the gas grill provided. This is a vacation to relax and enjoy the beach during the day and sea breeze at night- nice family trip.
We were so pleased with our time in Fairhaven. Jim met us at the house and showed us everything we needed to know. We were greeted with fresh flowers, delicious cookies with a keepsake starfish dish as well as a chilled bottle of wine! The home was perfect for our stay - quiet, slightly off the beaten bath but close enough to stores. The house was immaculate and tastefully appointed. The pictures from the listing are accurate and the few questions we had were answered immediately. We enjoyed using the gas grill as well as an evening around the firepit. We were 2 hours from Privincetown and the Falmouth ferry to Martha's Vineyard was only 45 minutes away. We had such a wonderful time!
I arranged this rental for my daughter and her family. The owners are organized and extremely easy to deal with. They were right on top of all the details and made everything clear. The photos and descriptions in the listing are spot on. It is a great beach cottage with a nice breezy porch for warmer weather. What does not show in the description is that the bedding, linens and towels were very nice, the beds comfy, the appliances and the whole place spotless. Alice and Jim left homemade cookies and a starfish dish to keep that my granddaughters loved, as well as chilled wine and glasses in the fridge and fresh flowers on the table. Lovely touches, nice owners, good location. Thanks folks!
