About Brenda

I am a wife and mother of three active boys who love to fish and kayak in the creek. I am also a school counselor in one of the local schools. I am originally from Levittown, outside of Philadelphia. I attended Neshaminy Maple Point.

I am an HGTV addict which inspired me to take this "too rustic " cabin and make it beautiful.

I attended Bloomsburg University, Indiana University, Bucknell University, and completed my doctorate at Liberty University.

I want all my guests to have a relaxing, comfortable stay.

Brenda purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Brenda chose Pennsylvania

This vacation home is named the 'Bear Den' for a reason.

I purchased this property and had it completely renovated. I walked by it everyday as I walked my dogs along the creek and always thought about the lovely view it had. It was an "unkept" cabin that no one had ever lived in it. The story of the home is that it was built to be college housing at a college in Virginia. It was prefabricated but it didn't make it off the truck properly and the college refused it. A gentleman in Central PA purchased it and put it in it's current location. He began to work on it but could not finish due to a shoulder injury. So, unfortunately, no one got to take advantage of this home and lot. I called him and asked if he wanted to sell and he did.

We named it the 'Bear Den' since during it's many years of being uninhabited, a mother bear and her cubs hibernated in the crawl space underneath. She surprised some men working on the road one winter. Now her story is legend around the neighborhood. She is still around but don't worry, she hasn't used that space in years and there is a now a door securing the crawl space. We had to name it the 'Bear Den' since she was the first true occupant.

I had everything torn out down to the studs including the insulation and added a second floor loft to take advantage of the sites. The layout is simple, open and comfortable

What makes this cottage unique

It is a lovely country setting along a lazy wide creek in a location with interesting sites to visit. The water view and sounds can be enjoyed on the front porch or by taking a walk along the road. The creek brings wildlife such as beautiful blue herons and eagles. It has a relaxing feel but still includes modern conveniences like wifi. Come and sit on the large front porch overlooking Penns Creek.

Perfect little cottage by the creek! Modern, clean and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely perfect weekend away at the Bear's Den. The house was exactly what my husband and I were looking for. A cozy little cottage away from it all. The cottage is beautifully updated. We loved the fireplace and the TV with the ability to sign into our Netflix account. Brenda was very friendly and gave us some great suggestions for our stay. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend this property. Thank you Brenda!

We really enjoyed staying here. The location along the creek was peaceful and quite beautiful. The home was lovely and comforting with exquisite furnishings. The owner was exceptionally welcoming and very personable, as well as exceedingly helpful. Overall, a simply lovely vacation home away from home that felt just heavenly.

Lovely cabin on the creek

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nicely decorated. Had everything we needed but an egg slicer! ☺

Loved sitting on the porch watching for the Eagles to fly by, and looking at fish jumping in the creek across the street.

Clean. Cozy. Comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is newly renovated, tastefully decorated, and very clean. It is well-stocked which allows you to just focus on packing the bare essentials (clothing, food, and toiletries). Sit inside and curl up on the couch or enjoy the outdoor seating. The front porch boasts 3 rocking chairs and unobstructed views of the creek. Watch kayakers float by and listen to songbirds tweet. The rear of the property has a stone patio with a table and seating for six. Light up the charcoal grill and enjoy dinner al fresco. After dinner, get a fire going in the fire ring (firewood provided). If you like baths, bring bubble bath or bath bombs for the deep soaker tub upstairs. Stay at the cabin or venture out to nearby attractions. We hiked at R.B. Winter State Park and lunched at Rusty Rail Brewery. The owner is very knowledgeable of the area and more than willing to provide recommendations. Bear Den has everything you need for a great vacation.

Wonderful cozy cabin in a beautiful setting!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this cozy cabin along Penn's Creek! It was the perfect size for our family of 6. The fireplace was so great to use in the evenings in the cold rainy nights to take away the chill! My husband, son and father in law fished and had a such a good time. We were very close to Woodward Camp where our daughters were which was perfect for us. We enjoyed visiting the Lewisburg Amish Farmers Market on Wednesday and the Dutch Amish Bakery on Friday. One of our favorite activities though was enjoying our morning coffee and watching the Amish buggies go by daily! I highly recommend this wonderful location of you are in this area. And Brenda, the chocolate chip cookies were delicious!!!!

The Perfect Getaway With Lots of Cozy Style

  • 5 of 5

Brenda has done an exceptional job making this little cabin a modern, comfortable, clean and well stocked gem. The setting next to the creek, the comfy beds, the indoor fireplace, the outdoor fire pit and the covered front porch make it a perfect place to relax and recharge (no matter what the weather)!

Our family of four had fun with activities around the cabin (kayaking, hiking, playing games, making smores over the fire pit) and took excursions to Knoebels (30 min), Penns Creek Pottery (3 min) and had a fantastic dinner at the Rusty Rail in Mifflinburg (7 min). Brenda is very knowledgeable about the area and very willing to help answer any questions.

We were sad to have to leave this comfy retreat, but hopefully we will come again and experience it's warmth and charm another season!

Thank you Brenda
