About Chris and Donna Hyche

A lifetime Alabama resident, I grew up enjoying the Alabama Gulf Coast and enjoy sharing this beautiful area with others. As a sales professional in the industrial marketplace, I spend a lot of time behind the wheel and have found few places like Bon Secour. Donna has worked as an educator for over 30 years and the peace and quiet of this area is a welcome reprieve to hours in the classroom.

Chris and Donna Hyche purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Chris and Donna Hyche chose Gulf Shores

Growing up vacationing on the Alabama Gulf Coast, we discovered this area in the 1960's. My family purchased a cabin in the Bon Secour area in 1985 and have come to treasure the peace and quiet this community affords. Whether its sitting on the pier and watching the dolphins and pelicans at play or walking down to Billy's Seafood for steamed shrimp fresh off of the boat, it is safe to say there is no other place quiet like the Cottages at Bon Secour. While we hope to one day retire to this area, we are now content to share our secret with those who also appreciate this unique riverfront lifestyle.

What makes this cottage unique

The proximity of the Gulf Coast beaches and excellent seafood serve as additional benefits to the peace and quiet of this area. When you have had all of the sun, sand and people you can handle, our place provides the ideal setting to relax and unwind.

We loved our stay! Have booked it again for next year. That says it all !!!

What a cozy quaint cottage met our every need!!! Our doggies loved the “doggy park” right out our back door. The owners felt like old friends by the end of our visit. Quiet, secluded, close to all necessities, and a venue we will rent over and over.

Perfect Thanksgiving On The River

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at HyTide for Thanksgiving week visiting friends. The owner was wonderful to work with. They have provided a clean comfy cottage, with every detail in mind to make sure your stay is perfect. Nice setting with a lovely dock to enjoy the river.

Rural setting near (but not on) the Bon Secour River in a quiet neighborhood that is a short distance from restaurants & all sorts of entertainment / beach activities & shopping. The weather was perfect this week & our vacationIng neighbors were all friendly and respectful. If you enjoy nature in a laid back, quiet, peaceful location (that's within 20 minutes of Gulf Shores beaches) then this is a fine choice!

The perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I agreed that this was one of the best vacations we ever had! This cottage is very cozy and located in a peaceful area away from all the noise. Every day was a new adventure. We enjoyed going to the beach, shopping at the outlet mall, playing miniature golf, the Get A Clue escape room etc. And every evening we enjoyed fishing off the pier. The pier is very nice and lit up enough to fish as late as you want to. Some nights we would fish til midnight. If you are looking for a place that has a huge variety of things to do and want to stay at a clean, comfortable place in a safe, peaceful area then this is the place for you. Also, Miss Donna was so friendly and helpful. She was very welcoming and checked on us to make sure we made it there safely. Oh and there are many places you can go to eat but I highly recommend Lambert's! We have never been to a place like it before and very much enjoyed it.

Gulf Shores beaches

Bon Secour is a very Southern gothic, picturesque place, with huge water oak trees covered in Spanish moss, great blue herons, brown pelicans, ever present bottle-nosed dolphin pods and the potent smell of salty gulf waters everywhere. The local commercial fishermen that make their living from the Gulf are no less salty but also friendly. Other than the relatively small, family owned, seafood processing plants, Bon Secour is primarily made up of many rural neighborhoods, most of which enjoy beautiful vistas of the Bon Secour River and Bon Secour Bay. Brown Pelicans are everywhere and locals often see alligators from time to time, plying the waters of the estuarial system from the head waters of the Bon Secour River to the bay. One can see baby bottle-nosed dolphins playing near the mouth of the river at any time. In Bon Secour one can catch bass, bream, fresh-water catfish, then travel a few miles down river, to the bay and catch all manner of salt water fish, shrimp, and oysters in the same day
