Kootenai Bay Lodge is a luxury retreat your family will want to return to year after year.
Picture a 6,700 square foot log home, situated on a private, wooded lot, with breathtaking views of Lake Pend Oreille and the surrounding mountains. Large Great Room, Family Room and Game Room, along with 6 bedrooms over 3 levels, allow for cherished time together — as well as quiet, rest-filled time apart. Ideal for families who long for an unhurried, peaceful, nature-filled vacation — where the timeless use of wood and stone connect the spirit to a simpler time. Family reunions, executive and spiritual retreats will also find a home here. Sleeps up to 16.
Influenced by the roots of it’s owners, Kootenai Bay Lodge combines Pacific Mountain Lodge with Adirondack Camp style. This well-crafted log home embodies strength, tranquility and peace. It’s that perfect balance of wood, stone and light. The sturdiness and endurance of 16” hand-hewn Tamarack logs, hand chinking, Alder laid floors, and a massive hand-stacked slate fireplace manifest the main living areas. Giant lakeside windows gateway panoramic views of 43 mile long Lake Pend Oreille. Watch Bald Eagles and Ospreys hunt daily, and marvel in the ever-changing water parade of local and migratory coots, ducks, geese, and loons.
Replace screen time with lake time. Each day here nourishes your senses and body. Start the day with a nature walk or comb the shoreline for a keepsake rock. Fish for rainbow trout or small mouth bass from the dock. Let the kids climb a tree and explore Kootenai Point. Bike the rural, yet friendly neighborhood. Swim. Play. Nap. Read. Build sandcastles with the grandchildren on the private beach. Then pay homage to a sunset that frames the end of memory-laden day while sitting around the fire pit.
In summer, bring or rent a boat and moor it safely on the NEW dock and boat lift! You’re in an ideal place for water sports. Water ski, inner tube, wake board or surf the bays right here: Rainbow, Oden, or Kootenai Bay. Explore Warren and Pearl Islands or read about the ancient history of Memaloose Island (a sacred, Indian burial site). Take the boat to dinner (and lunch). Or jump in a kayak (provided) and explore the shorelines at leisure.
When not outside, there’s plenty to enjoy inside. The large gourmet kitchen is completely appointed to help you create fabulous meals. Multiple decks provide a variety of areas to eat outside, as well as a quiet place to enjoy a good book.
Downstairs you’ll find a beautiful billiards table and game room, separated by a stone and glass fireplace. Just outside is the large hot tub and outdoor beach shower. Movies, TV and Wii are available in the upstairs Family and Entertainment room. When “being connected” to the world is necessary, high speed WiFi is available throughout the home and a large built-in office is located upstairs for work needs.
Kootenai Bay Lodge celebrates the four seasons of Sandpoint. Schweitzer Mountain is an easy 15 mile drive away and the home is also close to the charming town of Sandpoint. Scenic drives and hiking trailheads are all within a few miles of this fabulous place.

Private decks, incredible lake views, sandy beach, 2 kayaks, dock with boat lift. Located in a quiet and rural area. Great walks and hiking surrounds you too.

We had a wonderful vacation at Kootenai Bay Lodge. It is a hidden gem! The house was beautiful and had everything one could ask for. The view and location were stunning. We traveled from 4 time zones to spend the week together and this house was a great fit. There was plenty of space for everyone and everything. Lots of extra little touches that truly make vacation great (kayaks, paddle boards, extra refrigerator, inside and outside dining options, beautiful dock, sufficient hot water, beach towels, sand toys and the list goes on). The home is very private yet close to Sandpoint and lots of places to explore. Hiking, boating and family fun filled our days.
Another fun gathering with the girls. This is our second stay at The Lodge, and we loved every minute of it! We took advantage of the beautiful fireplace in the great room with the panoramic view of the lake, went for walks, enjoyed the hot tub, watched movies. This is the perfect place to relax and recharge. Will definitely be back!
We had the pleasure of staying at Kootenai Bay Lodge this past spring break in late March. This is a special place, both the log home itself and its private lakefront and amazing mountain views. It was hard to choose our favorite part of the Lodge: a massive stone fireplace; many windows and patios perched out over Lake Pend Oreille, or its cozy bedrooms. This luxurious Lodge is only a 15 minute car ride to Sandpoint for restaurants, groceries and shopping, yet its private setting on the tip of Kootenai Peninsula is also home to bald eagles, wild turkey, and deer.
We skied fresh powder and trees in a late season storm at nearby Schweitzer Mountain, had dinners in Sandpoint, and fell in love with the beautiful lake and countryside of northern Idaho. Lake Pend Oreille is calling us back this summer to swim/boat/paddle, have a campfire on the lake, and water ski and fish out the back door of Kootenai Bay Lodge.
DM-Vacation managers Kellee and Theresa, are friendly and incredibly detail oriented, ensuring that every aspect of our stay were not only met but exceeded. This home is immaculate and well-appointed with full kitchen, high quality linens & towels, firewood, paper goods, games & DVD’s, etc., everything needed to make our stay easy. It was hard to leave Kootenai Bay Lodge, so much so we have already made plans to return for all the summer fun.
This was our 20th annual ski Symposium and this house was awesome! Plenty of beds for 12 guys and ample room to spread out. The sunsets were amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will return!
This is the perfect setting for our annual trip. The open floor plan allows our large group of 15 to spread out, but still be connected to the others. The views are spectacular, especially from the panoramic great room, with lots of comfy seating. The dining table is large enough to fit most of us, and the bar stools at the kitchen counter seat the rest. The kitchen is open to the dining area which is all open to the great room so the cooks have company. The covered deck off the dining room has a beautiful view of the lake--perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning, or a glass of wine in the evening. The dock extends out over deep water, crystal clear--we tied our floaties to it, and spent much of our time out there. It gets full southern exposure from sunrise to sunset. The pool table and hot tub were an added bonus. We would love to return in the spring to use all those beautiful fireplaces.
The lodge exceeded all of our expectations. It was truly perfect in every way. We rented a boat from the marina across the bay and enjoyed the lake every day. The access to town (Sandpoint) was also a plus, since many of these places are very remote. The attention to detail in the lodge was off the charts. There were only three of us and the lodge is quite large, but we just didn't use the ground floor. Even though this is a pet-friendly rental and we had a small dog, there are no signs of pets in the lodge. It was incredibly clean! The lake was also incredible. More fish species than I have ever seen in one lake and we didn't see many boats at all. What a beautiful location! We highly recommend this lodge for anyone looking to get away to a true paradise!
Schweitzer Mountain Resort is amazing in the winter, as well as summer. David Thompson Wildlife Refuge (near Hope) is a gorgeous drive. Hiking, biking, fishing, boating -- a wide variety of outdoor activities right outside your front door. The home is surrounded by undeveloped and natural land, so lots to explore, hike, bike and discover. Very private and quiet.
A variety of bays are available right here: Rainbow Bay, Oden Bay, Kootenai Bay are all wonderful for boating, kayaking, fishing and water sports. Downtown Sandpoint is 7 miles away and an easy drive.
