About the property

Jaybird's 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath with Forest and Mountain Views

Jaybird's is one of seven Abbott Valley vacation rentals. Under Owner Information, click on LINKS to view our website for availability and booking.

"Jaybirds" is a three bedroom, two bath single family home on one level with a king in the master, one queen bed and one double. Jaybird's is located in the country on the 275 acre Abbott Valley homestead and is sited on a secluded acre amidst swaying tamarack, birch and aspen. A fully equipped kitchen, dining area and master bedroom open out onto a lovely patio with a BBQ and dining area which is great for outdoor morning coffee and evening meals. A fire pit is perfect for relaxing and listening to the trees sway in the breeze and later for stargazing. There is a swing set and easy access to North Abbott Creek which is a paradise for nature lovers. Jaybird's was extensively remodeled in 2011. While it retains the original knotty pine and charm, it is equipped with all the modern amenities and conveniences for your comfort.

Please email, call owner or browse our website, abbottvalley, for more information and availability. The homes are private from one another, but close enough that a combination of units works great for larger groups. This is a perfect base for visiting Glacier National Park. It is also centrally located for all shopping needs: Grocery store (4 miles), Kalispell (20), Whitefish (15) and all the Flathead Valley has to offer.

About Doyle Foley

Abbott Valley was gifted to us by our parents about 25 years ago. We grew up here riding horses, fishing and swimming, hiking in the mountains, building forts, and riding tractors and haying and raising cattle. We went away to school, had careers, came back and now our third generation of family is enjoying 'the ranch'. The Foley Family

Doyle Foley purchased this house in 1946

Why Doyle Foley chose Glacier Country

Abbott Valley is a 270 acre homestead minutes from the West Entrance to Glacier National Park. Nestled near Desert Mountain, and surrounded by Flathead National Forest, this is one of the larger tracts of land, still intact, which was originally homesteaded in 1910 shortly before the establishment of Glacier National Park (1911) and the founding of the National Park Service (1916). Abbott Valley is comprised of meadows, forests, beaver ponds and criss-crossed by two creeks, North and South Abbott. Two of our rentals - Mickey's and Baptiste - are the original homestead cabins dating back 100 years and though they have been remodeled they retain their original authentic log structures. They are a delight to stay in and it is fun to marvel that right here the Indians pitched tee-pees on the property and traded with the early settlers.

Abbott Valley is family owned and operated. We live here and are available to answer questions to help make your vacation a memorable experience. We have been welcoming guests for 25 years. Many return year after year, having 'chosen' one cabin or another as theirs, putting their roots down, if only for a week or two, so they can enjoy time with each other in a beautiful, serene setting.

What makes this house unique

Our location is an ideal base for exploring Glacier National Park, the Hungry Horse Reservoir, Whitefish, Kalispell, Bigfork and all that the Flathead has to offer.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was a great meeting place for us. We had 4 adults and 2 children and still had plenty of space. The house was extremely clean, had all of the necessities, and the views were beautiful. We used the patio, fire pit, grill, kitchen, and took some lovely walks. We will definitely try to come back to the Jay-Bird again!

Our property is surrounded by the Flathead National Forest and is the last homestead before reaching the Bob Marshall Wilderness area. We have maintained trails on our property and there are a number of trails in the surrounding forest area for those who want to hike, run, bike and/or stroll in the forest. The meadows and surrounding trails provide for extensive cross country skiing and snowshoeing as well. Elk and deer frequent these same meadows year around...close by is a large wetland area that is habitat for many different fur bearing animals and an abundance of bird species. It is a haven for birders and nature photographers.

We stayed at Mickey's Place for three nights while we toured Glacier National Park. The location was convenient, the setting was spectacular, the history was interesting, the owner was attentive. We would stay again without hesitation.

Homey and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed twice at the Millhouse and enjoyed both our stays. Our kids spent hours running around outside on the property (creek, meadow, etc), and the house is comfortable and big enough for four adults and two kids to spread out. I love the separate master suite upstairs. A deer visited often; a hummingbird had a nest right outside. Lovely and restful visit, and an easy drive to Glacier -- I anticipate we will be back.

Relaxing, beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

What a delightful place Abbott Valley Historical Ranch is. We recently stayed at the Millhouse that is a three bedroom, two bath which was perfect for our group this year. It was so relaxing. There is a wonderful covered barbecue area out back, the perfect place for outdoor dining. Inside is clean and comfortable. A great way to relax and enjoy the view. Abbott Valley is nestled into the beautiful rocky mountains not far off the main highway, but far enough that you do not hear traffic. Is so peaceful. Caretaker/owner Doyle is a delight and so accommodating for all of our needs. Thank you Doyle and Abbott Valley for a most delightful stay. I would highly recommend this property. Whether there are two in your family or twenty two there is room for everyone. Four years ago we rented four cabins for sixteen of us. This year there were only six of us so only needed one cabin, but we definitely will be back either for another large family gathering or two of us visiting kids in the area. This is a perfect relaxing getaway.

Abbot Valley Homestead, Martin City, Mt.

  • 4 of 5

We have taken our two week winter vacation at Abbot Valley and stay at Mickey's Cabin for the past 14 years. Over these years we have managed to roll our truck in the snow, literally been snowed in, pipes frozen and burst due to the cold, as well as other winter inconveniences, all to be expected in winter traveling. In each of these incidents, the managers of Abbot Valley were there to assist and help resolve our difficulties. Including driving us to a car rental, fixing the pipes and securing a plow for the road within an hour of first light. We have wonderful memories over these years of the welcoming and warm reception by the owners. This past year, however, we could see a difference in the management style. We did not see anyone for the two weeks of our stay, no garbage was picked up and no receipt for payment. Our stays in the past years have been priceless but this past winter, while still fine, was clearly different and somewhat lacking. Fortunately, we experienced no misadventures this year. We still look forward to continuing our annual trip, hopefully, to see a return of previous years service.
