Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough about the property. My wife and I just returned home from a week in this house. We used it as a launching-off point to explore northern NM.

When we travel, we need to stay in places with kitchens as my wife has numerous severe food allergies so restaurant eating is just not an option in most cases. She also has allergies that are set off by strong scents and several common chemicals. Harvey understands this and was a great host and shares our concerns as green living and green building is important to him.

But the best part was never mentioned in any of the reviews of the property. The house has a large atrium that is perfect for breakfast. Just outside the atrium Harvey has set up a structure for the songbirds to roost and always has plenty of seed all around for them. Every morning, we sat and watched the birds and bunnies munching on the seed and suet while we planned our day. It was the perfect way to start each morning. We saw Cassin's Finches, Curve-Billed Thrashers, American Raven, Black-Headed Grosbeaks, and our favorites, two flocks of Scaled Quail.

Harvey is also very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and a blast to chat with.

We love the area and we will be back soon.

Harvey, if you read this, one small suggestion - every morning we saw at least one hummingbird but there is no feeder. If you build it, they will come.

A quiet rest for the soul

  • 5 of 5

The casita was cozy, clean and lovely with 360 degree views of the landscape. It would be an ideal place for a person or group seeking quiet beauty, reflection, and an experience of the local earth. The host was very friendly and eager to share knowledge of his home's green construction and conservation. He also directed us to local attractions that might otherwise been overlooked. Our family of three had a lovely time. Thank you, Harvey!

Beautiful house, great location!

  • 5 of 5

Solar House is a home built with love and skill. Everything you need for a comfortable stay close to Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Georgia O'keefe House. Fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds. Night sky was amazing, great view from the rooftop terrace. Harvey was a gracious host, full of information about local hikes. Loved our few days at Solar House!

Adobe Gem

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in this property was a wonderful opportunity to see and learn more about this region of New Mexico. The owner met us and showed us the property and offered tips on local hiking, which we used and thoroughly enjoyed. The house is a delightful space, very cozy and comfortable. The light and the spacious views of the surrounding hills were so pleasant when we ate our meals at the huge table overlooking the greenhouse and beyond. Everything we needed for meal preparation was provided with convenient storage and preparation areas. The appliances are full-sized and in great condition. In addition to the very large dining table, there are two smaller spots for meals in the greenhouse and on the patio. We especially enjoyed morning tea on the patio with at least two varieties of hummingbirds coming to feed. In the evenings we were always on the upstairs deck to watch the amazing sunsets and the thunderclouds of the monsoon season. The surroundings are quiet and private and the house is very pleasantly situated. We are definitely planning to visit again at this wonderful retreat.

The Perfect Get Away

  • 5 of 5

The adobe home was simply amazing. The owner created a home that is off the grid and nature friendly. Hanging out in the hammock and listing to the evening rain was better than any prescription a doctor could ever give. From cool mornings and breath taking landscape scenes to colorful sunsets and the smell of sweet sage in the air, this is the perfect get away for a couple or a person looking to relax. Not to far away you can go explore some amazing hiking trails and natural landmarks that will leave you speechless. Ghost Ranch and The Monastery of Christ in The Desert aren't to far away and worth the trip to visit. I shall return!!
