Playa Arcadia is a very unique beachfront home, located directly on the Sea of Cortez, in the charming fishing village of Puerto Penasco, (also known as “Rocky Point”), that offers a multitude of amenities, located in the most desirable gated and guarded community of Las Conchas.

Playa Arcadia (which loosely means a tranquil beach) is a 3800 sf beach front home, with 4 bedrooms and 3 ½ baths. With its huge centrally located great room, this home is perfectly set up for friends and families that travel together. Professionally decorated with many locally sourced pieces of furniture and artwork, this home offers a truly exceptional beachfront vacation experience.

After passing through the private front courtyard, you enter this home through the large foyer, and are immediately greeted by views of the Sea of Cortez.

The Great room, the central gathering space, has a beautiful boveda ceiling installed by traveling artisans, and is designed for comfort. Enjoy relaxing on the large sectional sofas, the love seat, or the kitchen breakfast bar. From wherever you stand or sit in the room, you are provided a panoramic view of the beach and ocean. Open all the sliding doors, and the smell and sound of the ocean will surround you.

The Great room centers around a large gas fireplace, with whole house Satellite TV, a 55” flat screen, surround sound system that plays DVDs, music via USB or Bluetooth, and is internet connected. The Wi-Fi system enables you to surf the internet for work or pleasure. Other amenities include ceiling fans throughout and two central heating and cooling units.

Enjoy sharing meals at the large hand carved wood dining table, or the custom tiled breakfast bar. The Large kitchen is set up wonderfully and fully equipped with gas stove, microwave, fridge / freezer, dishwasher, and reverse osmosis drinking water system. All necessary small appliances are there as well, including coffee maker, toaster, blender, can opener, etc. Dishes, spices plates glasses, utensils and cookware round out the kitchen. . If outdoor cooking is your choice, enjoy the 4 burner grill on the back patio.

Able to sleep 11 comfortably, or up to 14, most notably this home has 3 “Master” bedrooms all with king size beds and glass doors that open to beautiful beach side patios with breathtaking views of the Sea of Cortez. Two of these masters have their own bathrooms with double sinks, shower and toilet. Those two masters also have their own propane fireplaces, flat screen TV’s and DVD players. Closet space is abundant, with built in drawers and shelves.

The fourth bedroom is quite large, and is set up as a kids or young adults room, with two bunk beds, with fulls on the bottom, and twins on the top. There is also a futon couch that folds open to the size of a full. A large dresser and closet allow for ample storage space, and a 44” flat screen TV with DVD player assures entertainment for those younger vacationers to enjoy.

The 3 full size bathrooms are large with custom tile and snail showers with decorative glass block. All three bathrooms have two vanities, and two have separate toilet rooms. A half bath is conveniently located off of the kitchen. A laundry room with full size washer and dryer is available as well.

You simply cannot get closer to the beach than this house. The main patio at house level offers sun and shaded areas to enjoy reading, relaxing or tanning. The expansive tiled lower patio runs the width of the property, and puts you right on the water’s edge at certain high tides. From here 12 steps take you to the beach below. The final touch is the spiral stair case that takes you up to the roof top deck. From this deck, 40’ above the beach below, the views are stunning. At times, schools of dolphins can be spotted feeding and playing.

The beach offer a spectacular array of activities. At low tide, the water may move out 1/3 of a mile. Play football, baseball, Frisbee, or explore the tide pools for octopus, lion-fish and sand crabs. When the water comes in, swim, snorkel or float literally feet from the house. Local vendors walk the beach selling jewelry and curios, and banana boat and Jet Ski rides are available, as is horseback riding. Even professional musses can set up on the beach for a massage.

Take the time at sunset to pause and watch the sun slowly descend behind the mountains of San Felipe, 70 miles to the west. You will notice most people slow down nightly and watch the sunset, either from the beach or their patios. If there are light clouds in the sky, the horizon may turn a fiery red orange, be sure to take a picture.

Pick a day and take a trip into town, as there are countless restaurants, bars, and shops that have just about something for everyone. If you go to the Old Port section, all are within walking distance of each other.

Our home is located in Section one, approximately right in the middle of Las Conchas. The beach is this area is sand, not rock as occurs in other areas of Penasco. From the lower patio, the beach is right below you , so you can sit on the patio and not worry about the kids playing below on the beach. There is a faucet / shower located at the top of the steps coming up from the beach to rinse away sand. We also provide patio tables, numerous outdoor chairs, chaise lounges and 4 beach chairs.

About Carolyn and Aric Clawson

Our names are Aric and Carolyn - we are native Arizonans and have 3 children. Our favorite travelling destinations are the wine country north of the Bay area, Puerto Penasco Mexico, and Pinetop Arizona. Our most recent travel experience was a cruise that took us to Aruba, the Panama Canal, Cartagena Columbia, Costa Rica, and Nassau.

Carolyn has been coming down to Rocky Point since she was 6 years old, when her mom would bring down groups of Girl Scouts for weekend adventures. Those trips evolved into spring break adventures during college, then later into family trips as we continued to enjoy the timeless beauty of Rocky Point.

Why Carolyn and Aric Clawson chose Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point)

We purchased the house as a new build in 2001. We loved this home from the moment we first saw it. We named it "Playa Arcadia" which means "Tranquil Beach".

It is right on the water, we loved the huge enclosed patio that was perfect for large groups and many areas to lounge and gather or sit quietly and read a book. The patio has a ramp as well as stairs that lead to the sand - 15 feet from the patio!

Puerto Penasco is located only 60 miles south of the Arizona / Mexico border. Crossing the border is easy, and the drive is quick. Once you have arrived in Rocky Point, you will find that most of the people in the shops and restaurants speak at least some English, are friendly, and very willing to assist you in whatever your needs are.

The real reason for being here is the ocean and beaches. Generally they are never too busy, and are a paradise, whether enjoying the water or just taking a walk.

Our home is located in the gated and privately patrolled Las Conchas community, one of Rocky Points most established and secure areas, and the only large subdivision of homes that has 24 hour private security. Homes in Las Conchas range in price from about $150,000, up to several million dollar beach front compounds. All cars in and out pass through the private Las Conchas guard gate, where the security officers are friendly and willing to assist with directions.

Most owners are longtime residents that cherish the area and appreciate a quiet and safe environment. Many families bring their kids down to play on the beaches? Many enjoy the multitude of immediate amenities such as the fishing, snorkeling, shopping, restaurants, or just taking a walk along the beach.

What makes this house unique

The layout is perfect with a huge great room centrally located and oriented towards the beach. From there, 3 master bedrooms all open up to the beach side of the house. The 4th bedroom is huge and great for kids and young adults.

The furnishings and tile work are all exceptional, and perfect for a beach home, without being too colorful.

There are 2 levels of patios, all beachfront. From the lower patio, concrete stairs descend directly to the beach. The upper patio is at house level and has many areas to sit and read, in sun or shade, or watch the world go by. There is also a spiral staircase that leads up to a roof top deck, where the views are breathtaking, as you are approximately 40’ above the beach below.

Master bedroom #2 is located on the east side of the house, facing the ocean, with glass doors and a patio to the beach. it has a king bed, new bedding, and a huge closet. Master bedroom #3 is located on the east end of the house facing the ocean, with glass doors and its own patio to the beach. It has a king bed with new bedding, fireplace, TV with DVD, and bathroom. The bathroom has double vanities, and a snail shower. Bedroom 4 is huge and located on the NE corner of the house. it has 2 bunk beds (twin top / full bottom), new bedding, and a fold out futon. It has a large closet, dresser and 44" TV with DVD. Great for kids.

This home is a gem. We visited with two other families and had plenty of room for everyone to be together and comfortable. The house is beautiful, right on the water and the extensive patio was one of my favorite parts. Super safe in Las Conchas. Can't go wrong here.

This home we stayed at was more than expected, it was beautiful inside. The scenery was lovely and breathtaking, we stayed out at patio most of time we were there. We stayed a few days but wished we could have stayed longer, nobody wanted to leave.The house had everything you needed to make your stay very pleasant.Most of party went to in to town Sat but the wife and I stayed and enjoyed relaxing.Everyone was asking if we were planning on another stay , we'll be back next year. I want to thank you Carolyn for having us ..God Bless

Beautiful home

Pulling up to the property we definitely we're skeptical. There was some unforeseen circumstances the property owner was dealing with thanks to the previous renter. However, besides a small delay getting settled in this property is beautiful. It met every requirement we had. We brought 5 adults, 5 kids and 2 babies. This was plenty of room for all of us. Definitely could fit more kids as their room was huge. The beds were comfortable and the house was clean. Everything worked and everything is provided. They had a water system with clean dinking water which was great. The main living area opens up to a gorgeous view of the ocean. The beach is just out your back door. Closest property o the beach for sure. (We checked!) We walked up and down the beach and believe this is the best property as it sits closest to to the water. The outside grilling area is perfect for eating and hanging out. There is nothing about this property that we didn't love. We will most likely stay here again and again. The only thing we were bummed about was finding out the shaded Cabana tent and kiaks we're not for our use. Renters can't park in the garage and nothing in the garage is for use. So if you want shade down at the beach, bring your own stuff. Other than that this place is amazing and we will definitely be coming back. Also: about the vendors- the man that sells fruit out if a watermelon with chili spice is a KING. You must buy one and eat it. We got 3 of them while we were there and it's amazing and delicious. None of the tamale vendors were that great. Beware of the horseback crew and really any vendors. We loved riding the horses on the beach but they will stiff you on money if you're not careful. (They tried with us). Know your peso to American dollar rate so you don't throw your money away. The local convenience store down the street (5min) is great. They have everything! (Even some produce). Hope this helps! This home won't disappoint. Oh, and bring insect repellent for the nights if travelling during summer months.

This home is gorgeous. It's beautiful in every way. Everything about it is so pretty, the architecture, the decor, the rooms and the views. We couldn't stop smiling from the minute we walked in. This house is a dream and we had so much fun. Carolyn is so easy to work with. She responds right away and is so helpful. I can not wait to stay in this home again. One of our favorite places to go is Old Port. lt is the oldest part of town, and has the fish market, lots of restaurants and bars, and lots of shopping. As it is a very condensed area, you part in a big lot to the north, and then you can easily walk the entire area. the vendors are persistent, but friendly and respectful.
