About the property

Luxury 3 Bedroom 4 Bath Ocean Bluff Home W/ Pool - Walk To Beach - Sleeps 6

Don't miss our drone video taken in July 2015! The landscaping is much more lush these days, but you'll get the idea of where we sit in Princeville. It's right after the last photo.

Perched on a peninsula 160 feet above the Pacific Ocean, on what many say is the best lot in the Princeville Resort, our newly built 3 bedroom, 4 bath home offers spectacular white water views from Makana Mountain (Bali Hai) to the Kilauea Lighthouse. Secluded from the street with a private infinity edged pool and covered lanai, our 2900-sf home is a perfect place to experience island living at its best.

From the front door, walk into the expansive living room which frames the ocean to the north and features a sixteen foot built-in entertainment center with a 75 inch Smart TV connected to cable and Netflix Streaming. Each of the three bedrooms with en suite baths boasts unparalleled ocean views, Smart TVs, and quality bedding. A fourth full bath is available in the garage as a mudroom. The large, fully-equipped kitchen hosts new GE Profile appliances, granite countertops, and a killer view down the coast - perfect for any home cook or chef. The 400-sf outdoor lanai faces west where the sun splashes into the ocean from April to September of each year. Walk down the terraced peninsula and look below to watch sea turtles (honu) swimming along the reef, or better yet, if you're a strong swimmer, take a 15 minute hike and swim with them. No sand or exercise for you? Then simply walk outside the front door to a 30 foot infinity edge swimming pool and enjoy the sun and tropical breezes from there. An evening in the hot spa, stargazing in the dark sky, puts the final touches on a perfect Hawaiian day.

Weather is unpredictable on this tropical island, however different times of year offer unique surprises. Winter occasionally brings heavy wind and rain, but, with that, comes glorious rainbows and waterfalls cascading down the mountainsides which are visible from our home. Large swells bring picture perfect waves and, if they're big enough, you can watch the tow-in surfers braving the heights from outside or inside the house. Humpback whales leave the cold waters of Alaska and travel to our islands to mate and have their young. There's nothing quite as magical as watching a 40- to 50-foot mammal breach clear out of the water and splash right in front of your eyes. Finally the awkward-on-land, but incredibly graceful-in-air albatross share our community starting in November as a safe place to find a mate or lay their egg. These sea birds are magnificent, and they soar around the home for your viewing. Once hatched, the large fuzzy babies stay at their nests for months in various yards up and down the street.

Summer is less dynamic, but the warm, calm days allow for more outdoor fun. From our property, you can watch the sun rise and set over the water bringing with it some of the most beautiful colors in the sky. Each evening holds a hope that there will be a "green flash" as the last vision of the sun sinks below the horizon. Cool breezes make the lanai a perfect place to be, especially on Fridays when the cruise ship passes by. Ready for a swim? Jump in the pool or take a short walk down the hill to the hidden "Sea Lodge Beach" where there are trees for sitting in the shade, and a shallow coral reef for snorkeling. Use the bikes to cruise around the neighborhood or drive three minutes to try your hand at tennis or golf. Restaurants, shops, and a grocery store are 3 minutes away. Of course, there's also a whole island to explore with endless numbers of beaches, hikes, activities, and some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. However, because Honu Point has so much to offer, you may well find yourself not wanting to leave our vacation home in Princeville.

About Rae-Marie May

Having owned this lot since 1987, and having lived on the island for many years, we have had plenty of time to carefully design our retirement home so that every room has a dramatic ocean view. Construction of our dream home was completed in 2015. Now is your chance to enjoy this property before we make the decision to move to it from our current island home five minutes away. Being so close we would be happy to meet with you and offer suggestions to enhance your experience on the Garden Island.

Rae-Marie May purchased this house in 1987

Why Rae-Marie May chose Princeville

Kauai is one of the most beautiful places on earth. We started to vacation here in the eighties and fell in love. We built our home in 1991 and then split our time between San Diego and Kauai for six years. In 2000 we moved over full time. We currently live on 23 acres on the mountain side of the highway. When we can't or don't want to take care of this land anymore we will move to this spectacular oceanfront home which we designed and finished building in 2015.

What makes this house unique

In 1987 we chose this lot because of its views. It is a half acre on the ocean bluff which includes a 130 foot long peninsula that's mostly surrounded by water. No other property in Princeville has this characteristic. If anything, the house has enhanced those views, framing it in every room. The coastline is a source of entertainment as boats, canoes, whales, turtles, and seabirds go by. The sun rises from and sets in the ocean for many months of the year. The sunsets can be spectacular. The full moon rises over the ocean in the winter. Many have said it is the best lot they have ever seen. We think so.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to take the time to thank you for making our time at Honupoint a memorable one. We thoroughly enjoyed staying in your beautiful house which had every convenience we could imagine. In particular, I enjoyed the spaciousness of the house and the views from every room. We were graced with whale sightings virtually every day and on one occasion we had an albatross come down the driveway, around the back of the main bedroom, looking for a place to launch off from. He eventually took flight from right in front of the main bedroom. Now that is not something I have ever experienced at such close quarters!

While we were on Kauai we balanced our time between time at home, having long family meals together and trips out. We all visited the Kilauea Point lighthouse, Hanalei town and Waimea Canyon. Dave and I took a helicopter flight as well as spent a few hours one morning, walking. Dave and Michael enjoyed their time playing several rounds of golf at Makai Golf Club and the children also spent an afternoon there, playing tennis. All in all, we had a wonderful time.

Of course, like many before us, we mused over when we could do it all over again. It was so difficult getting everyone together for this holiday, but we would like to come back one day. It would just be a matter of forward planning.

Until that time, all the best with your VRBO project.

Paradise regained

  • 5 of 5

This is a magnificent place. Everything about it is first class, from the host to the fully equipped kitchen (we even found cake tins) and everything in between. The fabulous views from every room are breathtaking, and, as many previous guests have pointed out, there is no, or hardly any, need to leave the house. If you do, however, the attractions of Kauai are very conveniently located nearby. Although we were there during a particularly rainy and windy period, these added to the appeal of the house and grounds, and we enjoyed the ever-changing elements. The garden is very beautiful as well. We all enjoyed the entertainment and media facilities, the free and speedy WiFi, and the new appliances. I cannot praise the property too highly, and can only recommend that you make a reservation soon - I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed about any aspect of this spectacular home. All four of us who stayed here look forward to the next time!

Private luxury with great views!

  • 5 of 5

This 3 bedroom well-designed home sits on a point with 180 degree elevated views of the Pacific Ocean. The ocean sits 200 feet below the back of the home. Its position on this point of land ensures cooling breezes throughout the home, which are easily controlled with louvered windows, therefore making air conditioning unnecessary. All bedrooms, the living room, kitchen, and dining area have ocean views. Although the pool with an infinity edge and the hot tub also have views of the ocean, the lush, colorful landscaping privatizes them from neighboring homes that disappear behind the foliage. The home is well appointed with a fully equipped kitchen and outdoor grill. Guests have access to bicycles and beach equipment. You can take a 15 minute hike down the cliff to a "hidden beach". The owners, Rae-Marie and Tom, are very hospitable and provide a warm welcome. Guests have access to a DVR and Netflix. The proximity to Princeville makes grocery shopping or take-out dining easy. This is the perfect private, cliff-top, luxury home that we hope to return to often.

Beautiful, peaceful, fun property.

  • 5 of 5

This property is awesome. The owners take great pride in their home and it shows. It is the second time our family of 5 stayed here. The property is so special it is hard to leave. One of the many things we enjoyed was a dinner cooked on site by Paige from Kauaicook.com. We also used Stephanie from kauaibystephanie.com to book many of our activities. She had many great ideas for our family. We hope to visit again soon.

Simply spectacular!

  • 5 of 5

We were on Kauai for a family wedding and were looking for a special place to spend six nights with our two adult daughters and our son in law. We absolutely found it at Honu Point. The property really exceeded our expectations. Loads of communal space for dining and talking, but the house and property is perfectly arranged for the solitary moments. We watched unobstructed sunsets every night and sunrises every morning (with rainbows included!). Owners Rae-Marie and Tom were incredibly responsive and so thoughtful in how the house is prepared for guests. The kitchen is fully appointed and the views so spectacular that we dined in (actually on the covered lanai!) all but one night. The pool and spa were perfect for early morning dips and hot afternoons and surrounded by gorgeous landscaping. The garage was packed with everything our active family needed (bikes, snorkeling gear, rafts, boogie boards and more). The walk down to the secluded cove beach below the house was a mini adventure and resulted in a number of perfect days of lounging and snorkeling above a spectacular coral reef. Beaches for surfing are also very close and world class golf is just about around the corner. We hiked the Na Pali coast trail and drove down south to experience the wonder of the Waimea Canyon. Hanalei is a 10 minute drive away and offers fun shopping, good restaurants and activities including kayaking, paddle boarding and zip lining among other things.

As far as the cost goes, we would have needed three rooms in a hotel or condo and never had the same overall experience. I would be hard pressed to even look for another spot if our travels get us back to Kauai. The house and experience exceeded our expectations!!!

You CANNOT beat the views!

  • 5 of 5

WOW! They weren't kidding when they said they had 360-degree views of the ocean. Words cannot express how lovely this location and this home are! It's simply stunning.

Our stay was great - Rae-Marie took us through everything about the house and offered suggestions, etc. She's able to walk that fine line of being VERY helpful without being intrusive.

And sure - -you know you are staying in a luxury home, you expect that from the reviews and pictures...but we were SO delighted with all of the extra "touches." There was a welcome basket upon our arrival, items we were encouraged to use (everything from coolers to beach chairs) and beautiful fresh flowers from the gardens outside. The pictures don't do this place justice - - we had out own private showing of the sunset every night and it's spectacular. The pool is beautiful and the rooms are spacious. I cannot say enough good things about the property and the owners. Thank you Rae-Marie and Tom for making our family vacation PERFECT!
