About the property

Lovely 3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Waterfront Home With Spectacular Sunrises!

Tucked away in the northern neck of Virginia is the quaint hamlet of Morattico which feels like a step back in time. Located along the Rappahannock river in Lancaster county it sits across Morattico creek from bell isle state park. It is rich with history. The name comes from an anglicized version of the native American tribe "moraughticund”. George Washington referred to the area as “the garden of Virginia.”

Morattico was once a thriving oyster and crabbing waterfront community. The Morattico museum, located beside this home, was once the old general store and now shows the love and pride of the citizens and days gone by. Each room is adorned by local history exhibits showing the past centuries of the village and providing vacationers a treasure hunt during their stay. Visit their website to see all the activities from oyster fests to live music and antique car shows.

This charming home is almost completely surrounded by water views. It delights in beautiful sunrises over the water while sipping your morning beverage. Listen to the sounds of the birds and water. You won’t believe it is a river because it experiences tide changes and salt water wildlife.

This two level home has 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths with overhead fans. The first level offers the privacy of 2 separated bedrooms each with views of the water. One room has a double bed and the other is set up with bunk beds and has a full size mattress on the bottom which allows total accommodations for 3 people in the room. There is also a large full bathroom on the lower level.

The upper level is designed with an open concept living space and boasts of a large kitchen with island and bar and separate dining room. Access to a full size washer and dryer for washing all those towels after water sports! The family room has comfortable leather sofa that opens to sleep 2 additional people, perfect for those nights of family time. The master bedroom has a queen bed and is surrounded by a deck to encourage those romantic nights with a glass of wine under the stars and moonlight! There are 2 additional decks; one on the front where you can watch the sunrise and spend hours reading and watching the water and birds. The back deck provides shade for the hot times of the day. The yard is fenced in around the back. There is a boat dock that can be used for fishing, swimming or just sitting. A small sandy beach allows for shell sea glass collecting.

If you are the adventurous type easily accessible is belle island state park that rents features picnic facilities, public boat landing, canoes, motor boat rentals, free concerts, and nature trails.

Kilmarnock and other local cities provide shopping and dining opportunities.

There are also many interesting historical attractions are nearby.

The home does not have a telephone. However, cell service in the area is very good.

Relax, kick back, revitalize and breath – life is short, live it!

About Cynthia

We both have lived in the Virginia for over 30 years and have raised our children there.

We were very active in the community and with our children's school and extra curricular activities. We work hard and play hard and our goal is to enjoy life to the fullest.

Cynthia purchased this house in 2010

Why Cynthia chose Lancaster

For us, it is all about lifestyle and having fun (notice my husbands Miley Cyrus impression)! Living in Northern Virginia can be very stressful so we wanted a home where we could sit and relax and breath... Every morning we see the sunrise over the water and realize it is going to be another fantastic day! This home gives us an opportunity to get away from the craziness and enjoy each other and our family and revitalize.

What makes this house unique

This little village of Morattico reminds me of a Norman Rockwell painting. We fell in love with it the moment we saw it. It has so much charm and history, from the museum that was once the general store and is located next to our home to the quaint post office and piers. The home has 270 degree water views. The village is just part of the attraction. The people are warm and friendly. Always a smile and neighborly greeting.

Wonderful location and well maintained rental home

  • 5 of 5

It was a very pleasant stay at the property. The house is located very close to the waterfront and is very enjoyable. The views from the house itself are pretty great. The amenities provided in the house were very comfortable and the basic necessities were all abundantly stocked. We would highly recommend this property.

Amazing getaway with wonderful view of the river

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed beautiful weather in December and were about to take advantage of the deck and the dock. No jackets required. This would also be a great place to visit in the summer because there is a private dock for swimming in the river. The house's living quarters are upstairs to afford a view of the river from most places in the home. The two bedrooms down allow more visitors. Fully functioning kitchen with everything needed to cook a fabulous gourmet meal.

Awesome Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family had only a few days this Summer to get away, and this property, it's location, and our time exceeded our expectations! The house was beautiful, open and airy. The kitchen was fully equipped and cheery. The bedrooms were all nicely decorated and very comfortable. The view could not be beat, and we enjoyed looking out from the balcony at the water and dock nightly. The museum next door was very cool and informative of what the area was like in the 1900's, and for all of you Pokemon players it was a Pokestop :)

The neighborhood was unbelievably peaceful, and we spent a lot of our time just fishing off the dock, collecting shells, and enjoying the water. Just a few minutes away is Belle Isle, which was great for hiking and canoeing.

Beautiful home, location, and a restful stay. Thank you!!

An Absolute Gem

  • 5 of 5

Every summer, when my daughter visits from out of state, we rent a river house in the Middle Peninsula/Northern Neck area. This rental home has been our absolute favorite. The property is exceptionally well taken care of and lovely. The cookware is in good shape and plentiful. The furniture is in good shape and is comfortable. It is in a quiet neighborhood in the country. We spent many hours sitting on the balcony looking at the water as well as many hours fishing on the dock. We enjoyed the playing in the sand on their little beach. The Morattico Museum, which is next door, has friendly people who will spend as much time as you would like, telling you about the history of the area. They even will give you a walking tour map of this historic tidewater community. (And this property is mentioned on the tour.) Both the caretaker, who lives nearby, and the owner, are friendly and prompt in responding to you. Do not hesitate renting this home. I would love to return here myself.
