About the property

3 bedroom, 3+ baths with extra rooms for the kids, recently remodeled.

Recently remodeled 3 bedroom lakefront home. Remodeled main floor has open concept kitchen with an eat-in great room along with two bedrooms each with a queen bed and a shared full bath. The basement has a large recreation space along with two more rooms stocked with single beds for the rest of the family.

There's also an adjoining loft space with another king bedroom and full bath, kitchen, and living space.

Great location for large families or two families with young kids.

Come relax by the lake. Enjoy beautiful sunrises over the lake from the new 300+ sq ft. deck. Roast marshmallows and gaze at the stars around the new fire pit.

Shell Lake is a 2600 acre lake known for it's clean water, great fishing, and sandy beaches. All of the usual lake activities are available. There is a public landing in town so you can bring your boat along. We have a dock and boat lift on our property. The dock does not reach all the way to shore (need to wade out about 40 yards - 2 feet deep of water - to reach end of dock).

Please note that the City of Shell Lake passed an ordinance limiting the maximum # of occupants in a rental home to 10 so we cannot accommodate any groups larger than 10.

Perfect home on beautiful clear Shell Lake

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful place for 3 family reunion. Plenty of space to spread out, especially with the separate loft area. Great kitchen for group cooking, and the two refrigerators have lots of space for summer picnic food and drinks. Clean and comfortable, wifi, and TV perfect. Beautiful sandy beach and firepit area, deck and chairs ready for relaxing. Coffee or gourmet ice cream? Scoop and Brew is a leisurely morning walk on the paved trail. Pizza, pub food, & beer? The Lakeview Restaurant overlooks the lake. Arts, coffee, cafe, and Friday night music? The Potter's Shed has it all. Can't say enough good about this rental and little town! The Quenans are great hosts, and provided a super vacation spot that we'd love to come back to.

Fantastic place, great beach and lake

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the cabin was great, even with some rainy weather. The cabin has multiple rooms and levels so we weren't tripping over each other during the down time. The beach is sugar sand and the water is shallow and perfect for the kids to play in. We will definitely be back.

Loved the location....less impressed with the upkeep of the rental home

  • 2 of 5

The location was everything....Shell Lake is a beautiful clear lake, shallow, with a sandy beach and bottom. Easy access from the rental home. It was a great setting for my husband and I and our daughters' families, with children ranging from 10 mos to 5 yrs to experience many "firsts" together e.g. making smores and watching the fire, wading in the water and building in the sand, boating, seeing the loons and eagles. We enjoyed the small towns nearby and walking the trails to the public beach/ playground and ice cream shop. Laundry facilities on site were helpful. We also enjoyed the pool and foosball in the basement.

We were disappointed in the cleanliness and care taking of the house. We understand that there are a lot of people in and out of the house through the year. When we arrived, the garage door was inoperable. I called Tim to report this and he said that he was aware of this and that a part was on order( it appeared to be a broken spring). We had 4 vehicles to park and with no street parking , it was an inconvenience that we should have be notified of before our arrival. The basement was very musty and damp smelling.....not comfortable for any of us to use as sleeping quarters. There was opened ice cream cartons left behind in the freezer and opened condiment jars which was unappetizing, so we disposed of that. We were told that towels and washcloths would be provided, but didn't find sufficient washcloths. Kitchen garbage bags and dish washer soap was to be provided ...we ran out of the bags early in our visit and the soap was scarce. The vacuum cleaner in the home was not functioning properly, spewing out the dirt. The umbrella base for the table on the deck was smashed and laying on the deck. Also the mat on the deck by the door smelled of cat urine. I think that the home could use a bit more maintenance and caretaking in between guests. I noted that a review in 2015 mentioned cleanliness as a concern, and the response by the owner was that a $100 cleaning fee would be added to our charges to remedy the situation. Isn't housekeeping services the responsibility of the owner? I would like to return to Shell Lake, but will most likely search for other rental homes.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your honest feedback. I'm sorry the house condition didn't meet your expectations. I'm glad you got to enjoy Shell Lake and the nearby towns. Hope you do return to Shell Lake and are able to find a place that meets your needs. I'll be looking to address the items you pointed out prior to next year's rental season.

Perfect place for a family getaway.

  • 5 of 5

Tim's place on Shell Lake was perfect for our family getaway. My wife and I, along with our two teenaged daughters, my wife's parents, and our miniature Australian Shepherd had a fantastic time.

The house has plenty of space, (we didn't even need to use the downstairs rooms), and is furnished very comfortably. The location is absolutely perfect. A slightly sloping backyard that leads to a fantastic sandy beach area. The dock worked great for the pontoon boat as well as the jet ski we rented. (MBM rentals provided the pontoon, Matt in Shell Lake provided the jet ski as well as a ski tube. Both great people and companies to deal with).

We loved the walking path just a few steps away that led to and beyond the public beach area as well as the boat launch.

The town of Shell Lake is all within walking distance of the house. We had a good dinner at the local bar/grill/hotel and also enjoyed some coffee creations and ice cream at Scoop & Brew. But the most enjoyable part of the trip for our family was definitely the lake. We spent hours fishing, cruising, and tubing.

At the close of a fun day on the lake it was great to come back to the house grill some dinner and then relax around the fire pit, just enjoying the scenery and one another's company.

We loved this place and Tim was absolutely fantastic to deal with. He was very responsive to any questions we had and alerted us to some minor issues he was having repaired. We loved our time at Shell Lake and look forward to returning in the future!

Nice home with great beach and clear, sandy-bottom lake! Space works well for large family.

  • 4 of 5

This home worked very well for our family. We loved the sandy beach and clear sandy lake. Especially nice for small children! The location is also great - within walking distance of a park/playground and large community beach, also from downtown for restaurants and groceries. Bike and AV paths are just one block away as well. The home has adequate sleeping space and amenities. We loved our week at Shell Lake!

Tim's lake house was perfect for our family of 11 people with the sleeping space and living space.

  • 5 of 5

It was a great feeling to walk into a spacious and really clean rental space. The space was laid out just right for our large family of 11, which meant even bad weather did not make us feel crowded. The kitchen/eating area(s) were great for meals with plenty of utensils, etc. Even watched families of ducks and geese parade by, as well as a deer eating the flowers near the lake-sorry Tim !) In summary, a very comfortable space on the lake which easily accommodates a large family. A great convience being close enough to walk to beach and downtown. Are already planning to come back next year. Dick and Clare Ostwald, Wausau, WI We highly recommend.
