About Dawn and Jeff Ameel
My husband and I both grew up in Traverse City. We bought this property in 1999 when we were living in Hong Kong. We wanted a place to bring our children in the summer so that they could experience some of the same things we did at their age.
Dawn and Jeff Ameel purchased this House in 1999
Why Dawn and Jeff Ameel chose Traverse City
We chose to buy this house because we were living overseas at the time, and wanted a place that was quiet and gave our children a place to explore the outdoors. We loved being able to spend our summers in this quiet location on the River. We have spent countless hours kayaking, tubing, roasting marshmallows and making great memories on this beautiful river.
What makes this House unique
We love the peace and quiet of this location. We are at the end of a two track road so there is no traffic to worry about. We enjoy sitting on our deck watching the ducks, herons, deer, rabbits and many other kinds of wildlife. The river is very easily accessed off of our lawn for kayaking, tubing fishing or swimming.

Lovely Rental Home for Memorial Weedend
Spent 4 days/3 nights at this vacation rental home in Traverse City. Very impressed with the overall house. Very clean, well maintained, lovely grounds...Could have stayed longer! Just a couple of items that should have been repaired: no screen in the living room slider, screen in dining room was off track, needs a new shower head in master bedroom (too hard), and umbrella on outside table was inoperable.
A wonderful weekend getaway!
We had such a great time-- we stayed in early October and made full use of all the perks: The nearby wineries, hot tub, scenery (fall colors!), fire-top table, Bose speaker etc.
Such a lovely house!
When people say it's secluded, allow me to clarify-- it's on a winding dirt road, over a very....primitive wood bridge. We arrived at night and had to make sure we were on the right path, but it was all worth it! The house is very basic from the outside, but the inside is so spacious and creatively decorated. Cool art, great furniture.
The yard is very large, so much room for activities. Would love to come back, especially when it's warm enough to make use of the kayaks/river tubing potential!
So glad we stayed there, we'd love to come back and highly recommend to others!
I am so happy you enjoyed staying at the river house. Thank you for your fantastic review. I would love to have you come back again! There is so much more to do in the warmer weather. :)
We had a great time and can’t wait to visit again!
Beautiful Inside and Out!
This is a perfect getaway for serenity but yet close to shopping, dining out, the beach and several wine tasting wineries. We found that it has all the comforts of a home. It is very obvious the owners takes great pride in their home!
We hope you come back again!
Serene Northern Michigan Oasis
We rented this property for my dad's 60th birthday. A surprise to him, we needed a place to stay that was close to downtown area of Traverse City and within driving distance to Arcadia Bluffs. The river house was perfect for our needs, easily sleeping our family of 6. we really enjoyed spending time in the backyard sitting by the river and watching the occasional tube, kayak or canoe pass by. We have a 9 month old and there was a lot of open floor for her to crawl around on without worrying, and also appreciated the high chair in the closet to use when feeding her. We will be back!
We could not have asked for a better place to stay while visiting Traverse City!
