About Dawn and Jeff Ameel

My husband and I both grew up in Traverse City. We bought this property in 1999 when we were living in Hong Kong. We wanted a place to bring our children in the summer so that they could experience some of the same things we did at their age.

Dawn and Jeff Ameel purchased this house in 1999

Why Dawn and Jeff Ameel chose Northwest

We chose to buy this house because we were living overseas at the time, and wanted a place that was quiet and gave our children a place to explore the outdoors. We loved being able to spend our summers in this quiet location on the River. We have spent countless hours kayaking, tubing, roasting marshmallows and making great memories on this beautiful river.

What makes this house unique

We love the peace and quiet of this location. We are at the end of a two track road so there is no traffic to worry about. We enjoy sitting on our deck watching the ducks, herons, deer, rabbits and many other kinds of wildlife. The river is very easily accessed off of our lawn for kayaking, tubing fishing or swimming.

Getting away but having everything you want for a fun time with family and friends.

Nature right outside your bedroom slider. This house was a perfect fit for our time to relax and reconnect. Wildlife with a quiet setting close to shopping, restaurants, and services. We never are out once because staying here was too good. The Central AC was great for getting a good nights sleep.

One of the best places I have ever stayed at

  • 5 of 5

I liked the fact that the property was somewhat secluded and that it was on the bank of a river. You can enjoy tubing and kayaking during the day and can spend a relaxed evening along the water's edge at the end of the day. The property was very well maintained and a maintenance person is readily available on the off-chance that you run into minor problems. The listing description was pretty accurate. The property owner was very helpful. I would certainly visit the place again if I get the chance and I have been been recommending it as a vacation rental to my friends.

Beautifully Maintained Riverfront Home

  • 5 of 5

A group of friends and I stayed at the scenic river house last weekend. What a wonderful, peaceful place at which to kick back and relax with friends after a long workweek! On Saturday, we took the kayaks and went on a 6-hour adventure on the river - it was such a gorgeous day, we didn't want it to end! From the thoughtful, comfortable decor in and outside of the house, to the amenities such as the fire pit, hot tub, grill, and outdoor shower (and of course the kayaks and tubes), Dawn has thought of everything to make your stay as versatile as you'd like it to be. Want a quiet place on the river for reading, bird watching, and fishing? This is it. Looking less for relaxation and more for adventure? This is also it. Kayaking on and hiking along the Boardman is superb. We hope to return again and again to make more memories; there's truly not a better place to be in Traverse City!

Beautiful house in a superior location!

  • 5 of 5

There is nothing bad to say about this house. It was beautiful, clean, and perfectly located on the Boardman River. There were no amenities I wanted or wished it had that weren't already provided. We went fly fishing on the first day and I caught two trout right behind the house! It was also a short drive to downtown Traverse City for those who want the best of both access to outdoor activities and access to downtown TC. The house does not have central air, however, we were there during several of the hottest days of the summer and the house stayed cool the entire time. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer! I'll definitely book again!

Owner's Response: Thank you RC. I really appreciate your review and how absolutely spotless you left the house when you checked out! I would love to have you come back again next year and to stay longer. I forgot to tell you before you checked in that we had added central air just a couple of weeks before you arrived. I am happy you were comfortable and not too warm. Thanks again! Dawn

Jaw dropping

Stunning! This home is simply amazing and exceeded our expectations! The only negative thing I can say is that the pictures don't do it justice! Had a wonderful stay and the river out back is to die for. Dawn has been more than helpful with any questions I had. Will defiantly come back! Thank you!
