About Dave and Cindy Thompson
Dave and Cindy Thompson. Live on the property year round. We have been in the cattle business for approximately 30 years. Our vacation rental home is on our property which is part of the cattle ranch. Our home is approximately 300 yards and up a slight hill from our guest home.
Dave and Cindy Thompson purchased this House in 2012
Why Dave and Cindy Thompson chose Chiloquin
We purchased this property as a place to bring cattle from ranch in California to summer grass. We were originally only going to stay in Oregon for 6 or 7 months of the year. The river views and the surrounding forest along with our meadows of cattle grazing are such a wonderful place for us we decided to make this our full time home. It is a very quiet and peaceful place to live.
What makes this House unique
The view of the river and surrounding forest is absolutely beautiful, along with all the wild life. There is a large variety of bird watching. Canadian geese fly over and land in river all day. We always have a family of Osprey that hatch on a power line box in one of our pastures during early summer. Occasionally deer will walk thru our pastures. You will have access to all parts of the river that is located on the property. There will be limited access to some parts of river during cattle operations. We have a good fishing spot where some 5 to 8 lb trout have been caught. It is catch and release. There are many surrounding places to site see.

Great Home Out in the Country
Can't say enough about the home we stayed in outside of Chiloquin, OR! The layout was great, and so were the furnishings. All of your travel needs are taken care of. There is a spectacular view from the home as well. It is the perfect out of the way travel destination for couples or larger groups.
Only issue was internet service. Although available, it did not work well for us during our stay.
There are groceries available in Chiloquin, but if you want anything other than the basics, pick up groceries in Klamath Falls or another larger town on your way to the home.
Thank you for the great review. We really appreciate you leaving the house so clean. Makes my job so much easier! We hope to get better internet service some time this summer. Have a safe trip home and thank you for choosing our home
WOW! WOW! WOW!
This rental property is beyond our expectation! Pictures don’t do it justice! Property is well furnished with everything you need, beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean, and only 45 minutes away from Crater Lake. When we weren’t visiting the lake, we stayed at the property to enjoy the view and just relax and unwind. Cindy is by far the BEST property owner we’ve ever worked with…kind, attentive, informative, responsive…thank you, Cindy for making our stay a wonderful and memorable one!
Wonderful Ranch House
The house was very comfortable, well decorated with a ranch motif, and spacious. Nice views of the cattle and Sprague River. The kitchen was large and well-equipped. Nice bathrooms with plenty of hot water. It was fun to eat our meals on the back deck. The owner was very friendly and welcoming to us. This was a great place to stay for our visit to Crater Lake National Park.
Our Train Mountain Station!
Property is within 15 minutes of Train Mountain and it was perfect size for our family / friends. Dave and Cindy were super hosts and very accommodating. Home has all of the amenities needed for tired train crews and riders. We hope it is available again for the next Triennial in 2021!
This place was AWESOME! The home itself is beautiful with an open kitchen / family room floor plan. The back deck was great for BBQing and enjoying the evening while overlooking the river running through the property. Pretty cool to see/witness the workings of a cattle ranch. Cindy was great and easy to work with. Would LOVE to come back here.
Stunning remote property!!
Our main goal for staying here was to serve as a base camp for our to visit Crater Lake. We were immediately taken in by the sprawling property and beautiful, relaxing views. The owners did a great job of preparing us for our visit and advised us of a couple places to shop for food before hand. As far as the home, it couldn’t have been any more comfortable! I was really impressed by the impeccable western/ranch style decor. My kids loved watching the cattle roam and the calves play. We wish we planned more time to stay and explore the immediate area a little longer. I’d definitely come back for a longer stay in the future!
Property is a unique place with the solitude of rest and relaxation, but also within easy driving distances to town and numerous sight seeing adventures. 3 miles of the Sprague River meander thru the property offering guests the opportunity to " wet a line" on their own, or take advantage of several guided fly fishing experiences such as the famous Yamsi Ranch 19 miles up the road at the headwaters of the Williamson River or the Lonesome Duck which is 10 miles down the river in Chiloquin.
The property is an operating cattle ranch and during the summer months there will be cattle in some of the pastures. We will ask guests to avoid these pastures while making sure they have access to enough area to enjoy their stay.
Crater Lake is a 40 mile drive thru Ft. Klamath and is a must see for anyone that gets this close, as it happens to be Oregon's only National Park. Collier park and logging museum is just north of Chiloquin on Hwy 97 and a great look at the past logging industry. if your into trains, Train Mountain is a unique property that train enthusiasts run to enjoy their passion and share with the public.
If you like winter activities, then snowmobiling is available with National Forest surrounding the property and several snow parks within easy driving distances. There are several cross country skiing venues within 50 miles with the closest downhill skiing available at Ashland which is 88 miles away.
