The house was great for us to enjoy a vacation with our adult children and grandchildren. There are lots of books, toys, games, and gear for kids. We appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and large capacity washer & dryer. We spent a lot of time on the screened porch and lower deck overlooking the canal. It is a quiet neighborhood great for safe bike riding & jogging. Location is an easy walk to the beach. The only disappointment is that we never found the advertised kayaks.

We were a three generation family with an age range from 75 to 5 years old. The house was well equipped and met all our needs perfectly. The house space provided plenty of opportunities to hang out together or find a nice private area for relaxing. The owners (Jane) were very responsive to our questions. We loved the screened in porch, the porch swing and overlooking the canal. We took advantage of the provided beach passes to South Bethany Beach less than a 5 min. drive. We love this area.

We had a wonderful return stay at Canal House. Jane was very communicative, and very easy to work with. There was even a small welcome gift waiting for us upon arrival, such a nice touch! The house is as advertised, and our family of 11 (6 adults, 5 kids) had plenty of space! Thank you so much!

Excellent stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the Canal House. The house is comfortable and well appointed, and we love the shade provided by trees in the yard. We took advantage of being on the canal by bringing our crabbing boat (and snagged close to a bushel out in the Bay), and doing some kayaking along the local canals and creeks. Saw lots of birds along the way. Thank you, Butlers!

Dirty, stinky, garage sale

The house is dirty, moldy and smells like cat pee. Very old rickty. All amenities like beach toys and bikes were broken or not working. There was meat blood in the poorly cleaned fridge, mold on all shower curtains, no reasonable to use pans, no furniture was moved and cleaned behind or under. Very disappointing for the cost.

Wonderful home!

We again enjoyed our stay at the Canal House. The location and beach passes are perfect. The weather wasn't the best, but plenty of space to spread out and relax. My favorite space is the screened in porch. We will be back next year! The new master bathroom was a great addition. Thanks for another relaxing week at the beach. Our happy place!

Summer Family Vacay

The House was the perfect size lots of room for the children to play and ride bikes outside and a safe place. Having the three separate living, Spaces was perfect. Distance to the beach was great and the house was more than adequately equipped for everything we could’ve needed.

Perfect Vacation Home

The Canal House is an absolute must stay. It is a short distance to the beach and MANY other attractions. We love the screened porch and seating area out back of the house. The owners care about their property. The updated master bathroom was terrific. We LOVE the Canal House!

Low key, relaxing cozy family place

The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful, an almost mountain house feel with some trees and shade! The house had everything you could need for a quiet, relaxing family getaway. The kitchen and (multiple) family rooms had a very lived in feel and we generally visit rustic mountain cabins so we were right at home. Some furniture and kitchen wares were a bit outdated but everything was super clean and homey. The beach was a 10 min walk or you could use the parking passes provided by the owner to park right along the oceanside - super convenient! Because its a more residential area the beaches were not crowded but the house was a 5 min drive to Bethany Boardwalk, 10 mins to Fenwick island and 20 mins to OCMD so you could enjoy all the fun beach areas but come home to a quiet little canal street. Overall such a great place to stay, super affordable too compared to a lot of the places in the area. Plus the 3rd floor in-law suite was perfect for the kids, they felt like they had their own place - kitchen too! The only thing I wish was included was a kayak for the canal but you can always rent or bring your own and use the dock. I would absolutely recommend this place for a family getaway

Comfy Canal House

We stayed at Canal House from May 18 to June 1, 2024. It was a delightful two weeks in a spacious, comfortable, well-appointed house in a peaceful neighborhood in South Bethany Beach. A dock, a screened porch and a couple of decks provided plenty of space to gather outside. There were great places to dine nearby and the beach and nature centers were close also. It was a perfect vacation in a terrific house with hosts who could not have been more friendly and accommodating. To Jane and Mike, thanks for everything. BP

Fall at Beach

Very nice layout for our group 6 week old to sixties. Lots of lounge spots if you want some private time. Screened in porch off of family room and open deck on top floor were well used and enjoyed. Recommend updating master bedroom bed and making it a king if it fits, it would also help to update master bath vanity and toilet. I am 6’3” and it was a long way down. Above paragraph was a wishlist. Everything worked fine and there were lots of extras, crabbing equipment, nice Weber gas grill and Weber charcoal grill if that was your choice, tons of cutlery and plates. Hosts were very nice and attentive. We stayed for 10 nights and barely saw the sun and still had a wonderful time. Would definitely return!

Great Week on the Canal

Canal house was exactly as depicted. It's a classic cottage, but with all the things you & your family need for a great beach week. The location is perfect, especially the parking passes that allow access to uncrowded, beautiful beaches!

Great Place to Stay

We enjoyed our stay and will likely return. Lots of space to spread out and we enjoyed the close proximity to the beach. Only suggestion would be to update some of the mattresses.

Relaxing home!

This was our 3 year staying at the Canal House. Peaceful, relaxing, plenty of space. Love the beach passes, so easy! My favorite spot is the screened in porch! We hope to be back next year!

Good for a family vacation

We stayed at Canal House during peak beach season. This place has everything you will ever need. I especially enjoyed the large selection of books, plentiful kitchen items, and selection beach & crabbing supplies. I once hit a snag with the PIN code to get into the house, but Jane answered me quickly, resolving the problem. She was available to answer my questions and help me when needed. My family of 5 had way more room than we needed. We hosted guests one night and had plenty of chairs and plates to accommodate. I would rent this house again in the future.

Family time

The home was a perfect location to reconnect with our kids and their significant others. Loved the set up of the home, the bedrooms and multiple living spaces easily allowed 11 of us to be together comfortably. The canal location offered us a perfect opportunities and balance for non-beach activities. The joy of being together!

Perfect for our needs!

The Canal House is a wonderful place to stay. This property has become our "go to" when staying in the Bethany Beach area. There is enough room to spread out as needed. The back seating area or screened in porch are perfect places for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or your favorite evening drink! It is just SO quite and peaceful. The beach is also either a short walk or drive. The house comes stocked with anything that you could possibly need. From beach accessories, kitchenware, books, and games to entertain. Both the owners and property manager are extremely quick to respond. We needed to contact the property manager due to a small checking in issue and she was on site within 10-15 minutes and quickly resolved that issue. If you are looking for a safe, clean, well stocked, and quiet house to enjoy a family vacation, this is the place for you!

Canal house quiet neighborhood

Having three floors were nice to spread out. The owners were friendly to deal with. The neighborhood is quiet and everyone enjoys walking their doggies. The screen in porch is nice. The beach was nice.

This house has been in our family since 1999 when Jane's parent's purchased it to use as a rental property. Although from the Hudson Valley of New York the family has vacationed on the Delmarva Peninsula for years. Because of our longstanding interest in the area Jane's in-laws started renting properties here too, and now a contingent of over twenty cousins, siblings and other family and friends convene once a year. One sister-in-law has had Pasta Night followed by board games and cards games at her nearby rental for over 30 years. And trivia night, Mexican night and more continue to be family traditions for us all. The house is our center of fun and we welcome and encourage others to use it similarly to strengthen the bonds of family. My two rules for this house are that I must go to the beach every day, and I must play the piano every day.

This house is so comfortable to be in with its breezy atmosphere and multiple porches. There is a nook for everyone to enjoy. It is a great house for families and for kids.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

The canal is tough to beat with the opportunities for crabbing, fishing and launching of a small craft. It is a pleasure to simply sit out there and read a book. The screen-in porch gets the most attention it seems since it overlooks the canal and draws folks for breakfast, lunch, dinner, reading, games, crafts, you name it. It is a lovely spot to sit. That porch swing downstairs is pretty terrific also. And besides the pleasure of the bay and the quiet community we can just as easily walk to the ocean and enjoy the thrill of the beach and the water. We get the best of both worlds at this house.
