Overview

About the property

Sleeps 8, 2 Baths, Fully Fenced Yard, Off-Street Parking, Walk and Bike All Over

This lovingly restored home is located just one short block from charming downtown Saugatuck--on The Hill, a leafy residential neighborhood where you'll feel like a local. Walk to shops, galleries, cafes, pubs, a day spa, a yoga studio, a playground, and the harbor boardwalks. Rent a bike and explore picturesque neighborhoods, country roads, and our world famous coastline. If you've never seen a Great Lake, you'll swear you've stumbled upon the sea, but--no salt, no sharks, no worries. Relax on the most beautiful beaches anywhere.

Perfect for eco-conscious travelers. Stunningly beautiful natural areas and West Michigan's wildest state park are right nearby. The whole property is maintained without the use of any toxic chemicals, inside and out, and we make it easy to recycle and compost, if you'd like to.

Inside, relax in the living room, dining room, den/bedroom (with French doors), and eat-in kitchen, which all flow together, plus three bedrooms and two full baths. We collect art and books and have filled the rooms with both. We want you to be comfortable and have fun while traveling light. You'll arrive to find everything clean and made up for you, so all you have to do is unpack. Kick off your shoes and settle in!

Outside, lounge in the shade or sun of the large lush fenced yard while the kids climb around in the treehouse with slide. Fire up the charcoal grill on the furnished patio.

You'll find a basement laundry and detached garage (for storage, not parking). The yard is entirely enclosed--by a 3- to 4-foot picket fence on three sides and a six-foot privacy fence on the fourth.

Bike rentals are available nearby and the Interurban (a shuttle bus service) is on-call for short trips around town. You'll want a car for family trips to the beach with gear, but note that it's just a three-mile bike ride, and it's also walkable if you're up for an adventure that includes crossing the river on the chain ferry.

We supply bed, bath, and kitchen linens, basic soaps, and enough paper products to get you started. Don't forget your beach towels and sunscreen!

We're available by phone when you need us, and often in person on checkin and checkout days.

About Alison

I've managed this home as a VRBO vacation rental, on and off, since 2004, with many return renters. Rest assured, our team will take good care of you. I'm a long-time local, who visited Saugatuck decades ago and fell in love with the town and the lakeshore. It's easy and fun to play the role of host and travel guide in such a fabulous place. Come visit!

Alison purchased this house in 1997

Why Alison chose Saugatuck

I love Lake Michigan and its magical shoreline. Saugatuck is home to some of the most beautiful sand dunes in the world: forested, grassy, and, of course, sandy! The beaches have been voted the most beautiful in the world: no salt, sharks, no worries. Our town is friendly, fun, and loaded with charm and unique places to shop, dine, relax, and explore. You can be as relaxed or as energetic as you like.

What makes this house unique

From the refurbished 1950s kitchen to the bedroom built-ins to the vintage bathroom tile to the glossy pine and oak floors to the profusion of large windows, there is nothing cookie-cutter about this house, and you can watch the world go by from the lush fenced yard. Lake Michigan is just a 10-minute drive away and downtown is so close by even toddlers can walk there. In fact, the playground is a block away, and the beloved Saugatuck Drugstore with an old-fashioned soda fountain is just a block farther.

Overall absolutely lovely!

  • 5 of 5

This charming home is ideally located, just a block from the main street. The hostess, Alison, was extremely responsive and so very welcoming. It's a quiet neighborhood with more than enough space for our party of 5. Such a delightful experience that we are sure to repeat again and again.

Great Location, Comfortable, Clean--Connect with Friends and Family

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay in the home. We had spent a fall weekend with friends a couple of years before but recently returned for a week-long family vacation with our two sons. The location of the home is great. You can just pop down the hill to be in town in less than a couple minutes, and the trip to Oval Beach by car is easy too. Saugatuck is a great little town. The home is more spacious than it even appears, easily accommodating three couples. During our family stay, Grandma and Grandpa visited for a night too. The kids loved their rooms upstairs, and they found the sun room a great spot to hang out. The dining room and eat-in kitchen area are great places for games, and the living room filled with books encourages good conversation. The house is very clean, nicely combining original and modern touches, and has everything you will need for an enjoyable stay. The yard is also very nice, allowing space for kids to play and adults to relax, though the kids spent more time in the hammock. We enjoyed our many days at the beach, taking the chain ferry to hike Mt. Baldhead and then going down the dune trails to the beach, the dune ride, and evenings in town with great food, drink, and ice cream, before returning to he comfort of the home.

Ideal Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

If you plan to explore downtown Saugatuck, you couldn’t ask for a better location. It was a short walk to shopping and restaurants and the Center for the Arts and the river activities. The house itself was very roomy for our party of five. Aside from the general cleanliness, the house is furnished with comfy chairs and small tables, just inviting us to sit and read—or binge watch Netflix in the evening. My daughter was delighted with the backyard hammock. It was also incredibly convenient to have a microwave, dishwasher, and laundry on the premises. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
