About this property

La Casita de Chelem House / with a beautiful Mayan pool

This house has been designed and built for his mother, for the Architect Mauricio Pinto.
The house has original furnishings and designed with recycled materials. Finished with walls of stone, Italians tiles and Venetian.
This beautiful house is located right on the beach. The casita has a circular mayan pool and is surrounded by coconut palm trees making it a very relaxing environment to enjoy a warm sunset.
The view from the pool is fantastic. You feel like you're inside the sea.
The house has a dining room with a round table that can fit up to 9 people and is decorated with seashells and stones that are common to the region.
Here are four big doors so that you have a great sea views and pool.
The area is decorated with a painting of the family history at the beach from the grandparents
The kitchen is in the center of the house and is designed to fit the whole family.
Its roof has a diamond-shaped design, decorated with lamps produced by the Mayan . It is completely equipped with full size refrigerator, stove with four burners, oven, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, blender, dishes, utensils, glasses, pans and a breakfast bar overlooking the living room.
The casita has two bedrooms, both with ceiling fans and closets. The front bedroom has a king size bed, air conditioner and a beach front view in a balcony. The back bedroom has a full size bed and is connected to a bathroom. The bed is constructed with two doors very old, from a house in the historic center of the city of Merida.
These doors are over a hundred years old.
The second bathroom has direct beach access; directly to the ' Terraza las hamacas '.
Connected to the side of the house is La Terraza Lunar, or The Moon Terrace, which is a lovely patio decorated with palm trees, called xit in Mayan, and irises.
It offers the ideal place to unwind after a day in the sun and admire the night sky.
The house comes with hot water and gas and TV cable ( SKY ) and also has wireless internet.
The natural beauty of the area is clear, but the inside of the house is also decorated with the
perfect combinations of furniture and plants to create an exotic environment, and the house is designed so that the view of the beach can be admired from anywhere on the inside.
The azure sea is 86 degrees in the summer months, perfect for swimming, boogie boarding, and shelling. The house is located at the border of a fishing town called Chuburna, which is a non-tourist area and it is very quiet and private. The gentle, warm ocean is inviting and refreshing. The cooling ocean breeze is the perfect air conditioner. Enjoy coffee or a cold drink sitting out in the terrace, take a stroll on the beach, read a book or just relax in a hammock all day long.
You hardly find a house so fantastic....!!!!
We own three beach front houses in this area, and we rent all three.

The town of Chelem description:
Chelem is a small fishing town with a calm environment which makes it the ideal place to relax and enjoy the sea. Chelem is known for its sandy streets, coconut palm trees, and a multitude of animal life including flamingos, ducks, pelicans, herons, and at the end of a rainy day, dolphins are know to appear across the horizon.

At lunch time in town, you can enjoy fried or steamed fish or any other type of fresh seafood that
you can imagine. For dessert you can enjoy pie and pudding made from the freshest of coconuts.
Chelem has a bakery, pharmacy, 4 tortilla factories for fresh daily tortillas, several small grocery stores, hardware stores for all your household and fishing needs, a cell tower to stay in touch with home as well as internet cafes in nearby Progreso.

Little Piece of Paradise!

WOW! We had such a wonderful stay at this property, from the moment we were greeted by Jose and his wife - we felt at home. The home is spacious and well stocked, but you stay here for the views!! The hosts went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and well received, from tips on local places to visit, eat as well as local services. The beach area is peaceful, beautiful and natural - far away from the crowds. Will be staying here again in the future!

Wonderful place to relax. Quite a long way from the town centre so you will need a car. A joy to just step out onto the beach every morning and the pool was lovely and cool in the afternoon. Comfy beds, good kitchen and bathroom facilities. No washing machine so you will have to use the laundries in Chelem. 2 weeks went by far too quickly!

Great location, charming beach home

My husband, friend and I stayed at the Casita for a week. Sitting on comfortable chairs on patio or in the pool looking directly onto the gulf was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Two comfortable bedrooms, each w bathroom w hot water; also an outdoor shower. Kitchen well equipped. Twice guys stopped by selling fresh fish and seafood which was a welcome surprise. Recommend having a car-about a 40 minute walk into Chelem town and good for day trips. Hosts Jose and Maria Elena are lovely people and timely communication.

This house was just what we were looking for. Very private with its own little beach. The house is decorated so cute and is real homey. It is centrally located and we were able to take day trips and see all that we wanted to. The hosts were so sweet and helpful. They brought us coffee and sweet bread. They genuinely want their guests to feel at home. Unfortunately a storm came through, which we love storms, but it knocked the power and water out so we weren’t able to enjoy the house as longed as we wanted to. Jose was very understanding and refunded us for the days we did not use. We plan to go back for sure!

Wonderful house and host

Hard to say which was better, the host, the house, or the location. We only stayed a week, but we loved it. The house has everything you need, and is quite comfortable. Chelem is a great little town, with more than 20 places to eat. You do need a car, as things are spread out. We visited the more upscale restaurants in nearby Progresso several times. Our hosts met us at the house when we arrived and took us through everything about the house. Everything worked fine and we had no problems. Jose was always at the ready if we needed anything, which we didn’t. If hearing the soothing sounds of the waves as you sleep is your idea of a great vacation, check this house out. We hope to revisit in the future.

Es un lugar muy agradable y el mar precioso. La Casa muy cómoda y funcional Estar en la orilla de la playa es lo mejor , preciosos amaneceres y atardeceres. El sr José y su familia muy atentos y amables . Fuimos en invierno y la alberca está muy fría ,no pudimos disfrutarla. Sugiero el cubrimiento nocturno para templar un poco. La disfrutamos mucho y Sin duda regresamos .

Better than pictures

The property was wonderful! Comfortable home right on the beach With private pool lovely. The bed was super comfy the home had many areas to sit and chill while taking in the breezes. Jose and Maria Elaina greeted us and we could not ask for a better hosts. Highly recommend for families, friends or simply a romantic getaway.

Great house for a getaway

We rented this house last December for 8 days. The location is great, just close enough to the village but just far enough to relax. The house looks better in real life than what the pictures on this site show. We were 2 couples (so 4 adults) and the house was big enough to accommodate us comfortably with each couple having their own bedroom and bathroom. The two terrasses are great, we spent all our evenings outside. Lastly, Jose is a very caring and courteous owner which added to our experience. I highly recommend this property!

DREAM VACATION

We had the most memorable and incredible stay at the beautiful Casita De Chelem. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the amazing owners. We traveled with a large wedding group and had rented the 3 beautiful homes on the large lot. The owners made us feel right at home and took the time to give us all a personal tour of each beach house. They gave us detailed information about the amenities in the home as well as the local area. We greatly appreciated the extra care and hospitality they provided. The Casita was a dream beach house! It far exceeded our expectations in the best way possible. As soon as we walked through the front door we fell in love. The beautiful décor, tropical breeze, breathtaking views and infinity pool overlooking the Gulf left us speechless. We felt like we were living in a postcard! La Casita was equipped with all we needed – kitchen supplies, a grill, comfortable living room and bedroom accommodations and WiFi! The home was wonderful, but we spent most of our time outside enjoying the perfect weather, pool, beach and beautiful sunsets. It was truly a dream vacation. The owners are special people and we are so grateful for all they did to make us feel welcome at La Casita and in Mexico. Their commitment to providing the finest accommodations and personal service to all guests is what made our stay most memorable. We loved La Casita and cannot wait to plan our next trip back!

Simply wonderful!

The casita is so charming, and is filled with creative details, great artwork done by the owner, comfortable living areas, and just about anything needed to make it a truly great experience. I was there for a month, and anytime some little thing needed attention the owner was very responsive and made sure that all was well. I would go back in a heart beat, as the house is in a great location close to both Chuburna and Chelem, not too far from Merida to go into the city for little day trips for sight seeing and shopping, a quick drive to Progreso for a good grocery, or a doctor if needed, etc. There are many little surprises in the area for dining, including a Thai Restaurant just down the road, and lots of friendly residents who are both locals and expats. The beach is wonderful, and a great place to watch the birds dive for fish, or an evening sunset.

Very quiet, peaceful location just steps from the ocean

Casita is plenty big for 2 couples and has the amenities necessary for cooking at home. WiFi is excellent if you opt for it and there are some English TV programs. House can be very noisy when the winds are strong due to the close proximity to the water. Lovely Mayan pool on the patio and shady areas to sit outside. Had a couple of minor issues and Mauricio and his father Jose were there immediately to attend to them. Very attentive owners and a lovely fruit basket and fresh flowers upon our arrival. Chelem is a very quiet village - no resorts, no nite clubs and Spanish speaking. Fresh fruit, fresh fish and groceries can be found in town as well as some good local restaurants A car is recommended if you wish to explore the other villages and visit Progresso. This is a destination to relax, read and watch the waves

MY FAMILY AND I WERE VERY HAPPY, WE ENJOYED A HOLIDAYS VERY QUIET AND THE CHILDREN ENJOYED THE POOL. THE ENVIRONMENT WAS VERY NICE AND SAFE. THE DESIGN OF THE HOUSE IS VERY DIFFERENT AND HOMELY, EACH CORNER IS A SPECIAL SPACE. I DELIVERED THE CLEAN PROPERTY AND IN GOOD CONDITIONS. THE BATHROOM, NEAR THE POOL, HAD TOWELS. WE NEVER LACKED WATER AND ELECTRIC ENERGY. I RECOMMEND IT TO MY FRIENDS AND RELATIVES. MY FAMILY AND I ARE INVITED FOR COME BACK OTHER WEEKENDS IN THE FUTURE, WE FELT LIKE IN HOUSE.

Quiet, Relaxing Beachfront

La Casita de Chelem is one of three houses together on a large lot. The houses are all owned and rented by the same family. La Casita and another house are right on the beach. The third house is behind them but has a view of the beach and very easy access. La Casita is a very open airy house with large windows and doors all the way around. The architecture is unique, very functional, and makes for a pleasant living experience. There was a refreshing breeze most of the time, but in the hottest weather air condition might be advisable. The pool is a wonderful bonus on the property for when you don't want to swim in the salt water. There is an outside shower to rinse off and a direct entrance to one of the bathrooms where you can shower inside. The kitchen space is very simple but there were adequate pots, pans and utensils to cook our meals. We very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again if we return to the area.

Very beautiful comfy property.

I really enjoyed the stay at this property. The house was very comfortable for the 10 days we stayed. The only issue I had was that there were to many trees around the pool so the sun light couldn't warm the water. We only swam in the pool probably 2 times due to the water being to cold. The water in my pool in Canada was warmer. Other then that it was a great experience and the owners are very helpful.

Lovely stay in La Casita de Chelem

My husband and I always seek out quiet, off the beaten path, close to fishing village type spots (homes) to decompress and collect freckles and local food and culture each year, in Mexico and the Caribbean- this year was our first to the Chelem area and we we were not disappointed! The house is safe, quiet, comfortable and on the beach- hard to beat! The kitchen ammenities are simple but sufficed for our cooking needs (~1/2 of our meals eaten at home). The grill is great as well. The pool and patio over look the beach which stretches for miles- lots of seashells and seaglass to be had. The locals and town are easy to navigate and friendly as is all of the towns we stopped in across the Yucutan on our trip. The location is teriffic- Progresso is 15" away for groceries and money exchange; numerous ruins and cenotes to visit within 1-2 hours drive. Amazing. The house is visited almost daily by the local bread, fish and water guys- yes, they come to you. Just listen for the tooting horn coming up the road. Wonderful. The property is clean and quite

It is in a great location. The family owners are there to greet you and introduce you to the house and area. It is truly a family enterprise that they are rightfully proud of. We met several generations of the owners and they are all wonderful people. We plan to return as we continue our search for our own home in the area. The area is safe and we enjoyed all the locals as well as expats we met.

My sad holiday

This is NOT a place for a single women. The door's are too easy to be compromised. You MUST have a car. Too far away from everything. The house itself is nice but do understand you pay for everything. The beach was not nice . But I was told it was because of previous storms. The weather was always awesome but windy. I was to stay for the month of January but as a single women I did not feel safe and went home a week and a half early. It was to be my dream vacation . I am very sad about this. Pinto's are very nice people.

Best vacation ever

The place is great and tremendously well located. We had great weather for the week we were there, approximately 38 degrees daily with a nice constant breeze from the gulf. We enjoyed our daily swim in the private pool and the gulf of Mexico warm water. We had a view of the beach directly from our bedroom, great view. The place is well equipped with the exception of a laundry and dryer. We did not have air conditioning and we did not need one given the constant breeze that comes from the gulf during the day and the night. The owner is really nice and will do everything to accommodate your needs and make your stay a lifetime experience that you will remember forever. Great vacation overall. We miss Casita Del Chelem!!!
