About this property
Smith Family Cottage
The cottage is 100 years old but holds its age well. It is situated in Snowshoe Bay which is a safe harbor in all winds. You can tie a boat(s) to our long dock and leave it there the entire week(s) of your stay. Imagine walking down to the dock and getting into your boat with hot coffee in order to be at the best fishing hole before anyone else. You are close to great bass, salmon, perch, walleye and lake trout fishing. Lake Ontario is a few feet away. You get there by going through the 'cut', a causeway to the lake right in front of you. After a day on the boat come back to the cottage and sit on the screened in porch and cook your fish or a steak while the kids fish off the dock right in front of you. Don't have a boat, use our paddle boat to get out to some great bass fishing. Well behaved small dogs would be considered.

About the host
Hosted by Melanie Smith Golding

The Smith Family cottage was purchased by our father Bill Smith. He was the manager of Stony Island from 1951-1982. We inherited the property and rent just enough weeks for taxes and upkeep. Otherwise, we all still enjoy it.
Why they chose this property
Our dad bought it because his father told him that if he wanted a boat, they had just built one, that he had to have a place to keep it. One is still able to see the stones left from the boat house that used to be there.
What makes this property unique
The cottage started out as a cheese factory in Chaumont in the middle 1800's and was brought over to its current place by oxen on the ice. Much of the original building remains. While digging under the cottage last summer, we found many Native American artifacts as this spot is believed to be a perfect place for settlements. It is away from the lake in the bay so it is always calm on the water. Boats are safely tied to the dock in any wind.
