The garden cottage is very charming, and is located on the grounds of historic landmark home, Epworth-by-the-sea. The unit was originally built in the late 1800's, and was used as a caretaker's cottage. It comes fully furnished, and includes basic cable and WiFi access (recently upgraded). Pets are welcome for additional fee if arranged in advance. Modern amenities with the charm of a bygone era.

Homeowner is an extrovert, but will take cues from guest as to how much interaction they would like. I live in the main house, and am available to guests 24/7 to answer any questions you may have about local attractions and activities. Observation of privacy can be expected at all times.

Location, location, location! This property is centrally located, and works out very well for those that are interested in experiencing and exploring our beautiful central coast. There is ample room in the adjacent garage for the storage of bikes, kayaks, surfboards, or other items you may be bringing with you. Beach towels provided. Private, sunny patio perfect for enjoying morning coffee. Pet friendly, and well suited for extended stays.
What makes this Cottage unique
Private, stand alone unit with no shared walls. We are close enough to the water that one can easy hear the waves crashing at night, and the occasional barking of the sea lions. :-) We are quite literally less than 200 steps from the nearest coastal access point (Cowell's Beach steps). Full service beach with facilities (showers, bathrooms, etc) is less than 1/4 mile away, and a 10 minute walk. Pet friendly, and four legged visitors seem to love the area as well! Please ask in advance about applicable fees when traveling with your animal companion. Also, we believe in legitimacy, and in providing our guests with peace of mind in knowing that we faithfully observe all rules and taxation principles required in our local Zoning ordinance. Wonderfully private cottage just steps from the ocean!
This cottage was the perfect place to spend three relaxing days away from home. Epworth by the Sea, one of the multi-million dollar mansions over 100 years old on Cliff Dr., was close to everything in Santa Cruz.
We walked the nearby wharf where we dined at both Firefish and the Riva Fish House; went downtown, where we window shopped along Pacific Avenue; went wine tasting in nearby Davenport; took leisurely morning strolls along Cliff Drive watching the surfers catch waves and expertly avoid the adjacent cliffs and rocks. A standout meal was at Shadowbrook Restaurant in Capitola, where we walked down winding steps with waterfalls to the restaurant, participated in the Winemaker Wednesday wine tasting, dined on exquisite seafood, had a light dessert, then rode the funicular up the hill!
Our final morning, we drove to nearby Capitola beach and ate a leisurely breakfast/lunch overlooking the beach, at Zelda's Restaurant.
The cottage has a great kitchenette, comfortable sitting area with a TV (if you need it!), adjacent bedroom with queen size bed, and a period bathroom with clawfoot tub. Just outside, the private patio has a table and chairs for outside dining, reading, etc.
We didn't do half what we'd have liked to, so there will be another trip to SC. The cottage at Epworth by the Sea remains a top choice for future visits.

Khristina could'nt have been anymore helpful. Access was very easy with no codes or combinations to remember. Everything needed for your stay was in ample supply. The scenic West Cliff Dr.is right out your door for walking or biking to your hearts content.
Fantastic location, everything I could want
Khristine was welcoming but not intrusive. The cottage itself is well appointed and quite comfortable. The location is perfect, just down the street from beaches. It's also walkable to downtown if you're in decent shape. I would definitely choose this property again.
Cozy Cottage Getaway
This cozy cottage was perfect for our long weekend trip. Clean, bright and full of little touches that made our stay feel like a second little ocean-close home. The bed is sleep-in heaven and the porch is a quiet little tea and book reading spot. Look forward to visiting again in the future.

Staying in this cottage for a month has been the best, most relaxing vacation for myself and dog. We were close to everything, restaurants, stores and dog beaches!! We didn’t have to drive anywhere if we didn’t want to. The cottage is steps to the cliffs and ocean and I could hear the waves and seals from the room. The cottage had everything we needed and the bed was super comfy! Loved the claw foot tub. Having a little fenced in patio was great and it was very private and quiet. I felt very safe in cottage and walking everywhere alone and had windows open at night. The weather was amazing and nice - chilly at night and sunny and warm during the day. Khristina was beyond kind and helpful with anything needed and maintains a gorgeous property to stay and relax. I will be back next summer to stay!
We are located less than half a mile from the world-famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Also near by: Surfing museum, Lighthouse Field, Natural Bridges State Park, SC Municipal Wharf, downtown area, Westside restaurants and tasting rooms (beer and wine).
