Perfect Place for a Popular Kid

This place is pretty sweet. We were all impressed by how many beds and rooms there were, and the spacious living room that's perfect for a mini dance floor or gathering. My friend's a popular guy with lots of friends who enjoy the snow, so this was a perfect birthday weekend. Everything was clean: rooms, linens, hot tub, furniture, kitchen, etc. and the kitchen was stocked with all the necessary appliances, including TWO coffee makers. It's also kind of minimalist, which is great for easy 11 AM check out clean-up. Will definitely consider renting this property out for family gatherings in the future. Also, the owner was very good getting back to me when I thought I lost my keys :)

Shabbier than we expected

The house had clean sheets and towels, but the rooms were not very clean. It seemed like everything was broken: lamps, switches, kitchen drawers, kitchen faucet, pool cues. It felt like a real letdown, like it was not what was promised in the listing. There was a lot of space for our crowd, but no games, movies, books or any extras.

Great New Year's stay

We booked this property in South Lake Tahoe for a group of 4-5 families coming to celebrate New Years. The trip happened to coincide with one of the most significant snowfall events that Tahoe has ever seen. So when we arrived, the cleaning staff had not been able to come due to road conditions - however, as soon as the roads were passable that same morning Mike had his crew come over urgently and get the place cleaned for us. He apologized profusely and offered to make accommodations by extending our stay if we wanted. He was prompt and responsive whenever we had questions about the house (like where to find things). Overall it was perfect for what we wanted - a warm venue to gather with friends and family with proximity to stores/food and skiing. The fireplace was excellent, and we loved hanging in the hot tub (after digging it out of several feet of snow!). I agree with the previous reviewer - if you are looking for a 5-star luxury house that requires no DIY troubleshooting (like placing buckets for the aforementioned leaks), this isn't it. But this place is quite homey, the kitchen has everything you need, there is plenty of fridge/freezer space available (one in the kitchen and one in the garage), and is a great value for large groups. We had no problems with the neighbors because we followed the rules, didn't get in the hot tub after 10pm, and didn't make lots of noise outdoors. We made some great memories here, and hope others get the opportunity to do the same.

Worst house ever

I have rented many very nice VRBO houses. This was the worst! It’s hard to describe how disappointed my family was with this listing. We arrived and the house had a pervasive cigarette smell, as if someone had stayed there and smoked with the house closed up. It was so bad that a pair of jeans placed on the bedspread picked up the odor. The sheets were not clean in some of the bedrooms, with hair and stains and, in one case, a can of deodorizer made into the bed. The dryer didn’t work so, after washing the sheets ourselves we had to go to the laundromat to dry. There was a pervasive odor of dead animal in the kitchen and rodent droppings in the upstairs shower. One of the showers upstairs ran constantly and the other one had no cold water. The barbecue was so dirty that it blazed when we tried to use it. The fire extinguisher was empty. Overall the house is dingy with peeling paint and rickety stairs. The upstairs deck had broken furniture on it and looked unsafe (we didn’t attempt to go out there). It did have a hot tub which was clean, and there are a lot of bedrooms. However I would NEVER stay here again or recommend this house.

Due to home construction next door to our rental property our experience was less than pleasurable.

We arrived at our rental on Saturday June 18, totally unaware that major home construction was scheduled for Monday through Friday of our Stay. The weekend started out enjoyable. Beginning Monday we were woken up daily at 6:30am to the sounds of hammering, sawing, power tools and even a cement truck. This became progressively louder as the day went on. Wednesday and Thursday where more tolerable. Monday morning I texted Mike Allan the home owner, about 8:30am and informed him that we hadn’t expected construction next door and asked if this was going to continue for the rest of our stay. Mike returned my text later that day about 3:00pm. He texted me that he was having trouble finding the right people to determine what was going on. He asked me forward the name of the construction firm that was posted on the property which I did. I texted him Wednesday morning reminding him that I had not heard from him and that construction was still ongoing. I did not receive a follow up from Mike until Friday morning, the day of our departure. (In all fairness there appears to be a response on Wednesday but not reflected on my phone until Friday, but the damage had been done). While waiting for Mike’s response I was able to contact the City of South Lake Tahoe building permits department and found that permits had been filed and that construction had been ongoing since February. The construction supervisor confirmed that construction had been ongoing. I thought Mike’s response slow and reflected a lack of concern. I don’t understand how Mike could be unaware of the construction next door when both the permits department and construction supervisor confirmed that construction began in February. Mike could have extended me the courtesy of a heads up. Twenty members of our family drove over 500 miles with high expectations to spend time together on Mr. Allan’s property. We had children with us and had to return to the property often. But because of noise and construction we had to close all the windows and keep the children indoors. We found it difficult to take full advantage of the advertised benefits. A little communication and follow up would have gone a long way to make us feel like we mattered. I performed my due diligence and read previous reviews regarding the property and was convinced that we selected the right property and owner. But this experience has left us with a bitter taste toward the vacation rental experience. Never again!

unfortunately there was a construction next door on the fence on the other side of our house ,I had no prior knowledge of the repairs since I don't live in the house all year ,and since no one ever complaint prior to this guest so I had no idea ,I guess most people go to the beautiful Lake Tahoe , Don't hang around the house During the day The other thing is that I did respond immediately after every text but he did not get it because of poor wireless coverage in the area where the house is We always go the extra mile to take care of our guest needs and concerns ,the only time anyone EVER had a complaint it was about something beyond my control or ability to change like Neighbor's repairs during the day Mike

In dire need of repair!!!

Upon arriving at this property we discovered some glaring issues. Of note: 1. Driveway falling apart; Lots of broken glass around it. 2. Needs paint badly!!! Exterior paint was chipping/peeling. 3. Front steps disconnected and wobbly. Difficult for older people. 4. Debris, glass, bottle caps, etc. in yard. Unsafe for kids!! One boy cut his foot on glass. 5. Paint was chipped and water damage on walls and ceilings. 6. Breakfast bar and cabinets were sticky. 7. Fridge condenser constantly leaking water onto food, etc. and collecting on the bottom. 8. Cabinet drawers and doors falling apart. 9. Some window screens were missing and/or warped, torn, etc. 10. Blinds were dirty and cords didn't work right. Many were damaged. 11. Many towels, linens, mattress covers, and sheets were heavily stained. Some towels appeared to have been used to wash cars, etc. and one had blood on it. 12. Bathrooms were moldy and had water damage. One upstairs shower was continually running. Bath mats were missing. Shower curtains were disgusting!!!! Stuck together and desperately in need of washing!!! 13. Air hockey table needs maintenance. 14. Back yard: Broken glass. bottle caps, etc. all over. Furniture was falling apart. Corner looked like a junk yard!!! Why wasn't this stuff just hauled to the dump. Hot tub cover was disintegrating and leaving plastic bits in the water. Does not look inviting or even sanitary. Fence boards are falling off. Needs completely rebuilt. 15. Garage was filthy! Termites and rodents were seen. Insulation was falling down. A tarp appeared to be used to catch leaks. Floor was deteriorating! 16. Bedroom by the kitchen had a window that wouldn't lock. 17. Carpet was disgusting!! It turned people's socks and feet black. 18. Outside stairs to upstairs balcony/deck were treacherous and unsafe, as was the deck itself. The furniture was a disaster and safety hazard. 19. Fire extinguishers need recharging. 20. Many other small issues caused by long-term neglect were noticed. This property has potential and would have been fine for our purposes had it been properly maintained. It should not be on the rental market in its present condition. We would strongly suggest an inspection and intensive maintenance.

Perfect for a Scout Ski Trip Getaway

The 17 year old boy scout in charge of planning and leading our ski trip and I were both delighted he found this house to rent for our ski weekend at Heavenly, because it sleeps 20 and had a price within his budget. There were enough large bedrooms so that the girls could have their own room, the 18 year old scouts could have their own room and adults could have their own rooms. Lots of room to spread out to prepare and eat meals and relax after a long day of skiing. The owner set clear expectations about noise restrictions, which we were able to abide by. The owner was wonderful in reponding to questions. There is room to park 6 cars on the property, which we needed. The photos and comments provided accurate expectations about the condition of the place. It is as advertised. Our group plans an annual ski trip. If the scouts decide to return to Heavenly Ski Resort, I would recommend this house again. Our adults had private rooms and beds and our scouts brought sleeping bags, which worked perfect.

Great Place

If you are looking for an affordable place that can accommodate large groups look no further!! This place was absolutely perfect for what we wanted!! Everyone from 2-60 had fun!! I have read some of the other reviews and I just want to say... yes, there are nicer places...so if you find that staying in a posh place is your priority book with someone else. If you are looking for a place to just have fun and create memories...this is the place!! I have a feeling we will be back!! Thank you Mike!

False advertisement

I was very exited for my stay. I paid over 2k for this house because it has a hot tub. The first day we noticed that the hot tub would shut down on us so I contacted the owner he gave me instructions and it continued to shut off on us. After our stay the owner complained that I had broken the pipes when the hot tub wasn’t even working in the first place. He over charged me after staying at his place for a hot tub we didn’t even get to use once. I recommend you guys get damage protection because the owner is now charging me for something that wasn’t even working in the first place. False advertisement on the hot tub it’s not worth the price he is charging for. Also what kind of house dosent have a mop or broom to clean up. He will over charger you for extra cleaning even after there’s one included in the price when booking the home.

Hello You were only chacharged for breaking the cover that was removed and placed on the stairs,I know that was the reason for the bad review ,it had nothing to do with the house at all there was No charge for the extra cleaning (it should have ben) ,there is a broom and a mop in the closet down stairs

The house is in bad shape

Other than the fact that it was old, the house had a bad smell, the rooms were dirty, stained pillows and sheets with dust almost on everything, no toilet paper, no soap, there was rat poop on the floor and the backyard was worse the tables and chairs were dirty and so was the barbecue which was never cleaned and had no propane either

It was complicated

First of all, I don't understand why i got link for review in Feb 2020 while our stay was in Feb 2019. The main issue with the house were that heater on the second floor was not working. It was freezing cold in the property. We contacted the owner and he sent someone to look into it next day, but we had to spent first night in pretty cold house. Even after contractor came to fix it, it was still pretty cold. Another issue was fireplace. When we fired it up, smoke started coming inside. We think its because chimney wasn't cleaned for a long time, which is a fire hazard. I contacted VRBO for partial refund and filed a complaint but they never called me.

Deferred maintenance

The pictures show this property nicely. The property is in great need of work. With the amount of money you spend renting this house, some of it can be spent on maintenance and upkeep! There is an outside stairway that I was afraid to use. Very wobbly and unstable. All of the bathrooms were in dire need of an update. Toilets and showers problems. The stove had burners that didn't work. The pots and pans along with the utensils were a hodgepodge of years of missing and garage sale replacements. The location is convenient to south shore and not that far from state line either. I wouldn't return unless I knew that some $ were spent on maintenance or uodates.

Family vacation

There are many things this house need to be repair or atleast take a good clean up work. Please repair the refrigerator since both of them are not cold. Many reviewers would probably be saying the same thing about the house being old, squeeky bed, and broken down doors. Need more trash bag and toilet papers. Overall I am ok booking this house since it is big with many rooms and many parking spaces. I would say yes I like it but probably would not book it again.

Worst experience ever.

Run down property, no ac , broken toilets and do not flush, broken kitchen cabinets, filthy, back yard not clean and bbq grill was not working. Called owner and complained , he said will send people and no one ever came.

Should be ashamed

This property is horribly maintained. Everything is broken. Toilet broke, pool table not level, every pool stick broken and missing a pool ball. WiFi doesn’t work, TVs pictures deformed (no remote to fix) every piece of wood is rotting and about to collapse. House wasn’t cleaned before my family arrived, dirty towels left in bathroom, floor was dirty no working vacuum or broom to clean up. My very young infinite son found a weed vape pen under the bed and had it in his mouth. Very disappointed to say the least!!!!!

It could use some work.

The property needs some maintenance. But it was just the right size and close to local attractions and shopping. The pool table is basically broken, the cue rolls and falls into the side pocket all by itself. We made up a new game to play and had a lot of fun with it. It would be such a nice place to stay with some work.

safe and comfortable stay

Large house with a couple of parking spots out front, and the instructions to get there were clear and precise. The place was everything we were expecting, price was reasonable, place was clean, lots of beds, futons; we slept comfortably. We had towels and bed linens for everyone and everything was clean.

Not a nice vacation at all

The bad experience started from day 1. I booked our vacation from 12/19~12/24. Two days later the owner called me back and said 12/24 has been booked (something is wrong with the computer system). When we got there, found that two of the showers could not be used because of leaking. The bed sheets have stains even though they have been washed. Roof leaking in the master bedroom. The leaking is the garage is ridiculous. very limited parking spaces in winter (garage could not park a mini-van, you are not allowed to park car besides the street because of snow cleaning). The refund is not returned until 3 weeks later after I called the owner. I booked this property because of its high rating. I am wondering how the previous guests got such good luck while I experienced a lot of bad things. Overall, the property needs major maintainance and it is not recommended. I gave a 2 star because the owner is nice enough to reply all my questions.

This group had the worst of luck ,any bad thing that can happen did happen to them ,add to that some animosity between the group themselves and the result is " Not a nice Vacation at all" Looking at the bright side All leaks were taking care of right away , All of the bed sheets have been changed as well as the cleaning company But as far as the parking situation , there is enough space for six cars only two small ones in the garage and four big cars/trucks in the driveway,and that is enough for most groups, we do mention that in the information so guest are not surprised as for the refund we also mention in the information that it may take up to 3 weeks ,depending on method of payment and holidays,in this case it took little over 2 weeks because the Christmas Holiday and the Changes to the reservation but normally it takes an average of 10 days and i don't control that ,the booking company hold the deposit and then after checking out and everything is OK they release it back to guests I know this house is not brand new ,while it has its own personality and Charm that can only come with time thing might break or stop working from time to time,which does not happen often ,since there are maintenance crew that inspect the house after each time the guest check out and look for thees minor problems,but for those other that do happen during guest stay I always will go the extra mile to ensure the comfort of my guests,i will response to you problem right away and offer the best way to resolve it or repair it in a timely manner without causing the guest any added inconvenience

Excellent!
