About Chris Fredrickson

A (helpful) brother, (prodigal) son, (considerate) roommate, (savvy) business partner, (always improving) golfer and (versatile) management consultant.

I spend a lot of time traveling for work and play. I spend a few weeks a year out west in the mountains and a few more exploring (scuba) dive sites around the world. I've become the type of person that thrives on spontaneity and never passes on the chance to create a memorable story. You want to hike the Great Wall next week? GREAT, let's do it!

I pride myself on courtesy and consideration and make every effort to keep those around me comfortable (when dining with a big group, I'm the guy that pays attention to seating arrangement, ensuring a good flow of conversation, not leaving anyone out.)

Why Chris Fredrickson chose Empire

The Neighborhood

Out in the wilderness - on a clear night you can see all trillion stars. Oh, and it's very, very quiet.

What makes this cottage unique

- The approximate commuting time from Traverse City depends purely on traffic but generally takes between 18 and 25 minutes.

- The home is situated across the street from a century old barn in a large rye field.

- We've added a fire pit, grill and lounge chairs to aid in your relaxing holiday.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an absolutely fantastic stay from start to finish staying at Chris' charming cottage. There was excellent communication from the very beginning and they were always quick to respond to any questions we had. We arrived very late at night and upon arrival there were fresh flowers in every room, a bottle of wine, doughnuts and cookies and fresh local coffee. The cottage is ideally situated for exploring Sleeping Bear, a short drive from Empire itself and 15 minutes to the main Dunes. I highly recommend staying here if you are thinking of visiting the area.

Tranquil, perfect spot in Leelanau County

  • 5 of 5

I don't really want the secret to get out because I love being able to rent this perfect little property! Cozy, but roomy, lovely country atmosphere, everything you need, 2 bedrooms, kitchen, bath and a delightful host. Perfect summer rental.

Empire cottage. Relaxation, BBQ and Campfire

  • 5 of 5

This little cottage is the perfect place to stay especially for people heading to the Homestead (where we spent a lot of time) and other surrounding outdoor adventures (we even did a hike up the Sleeping Bear Dunes). Everything was very tidy and we had everything we needed to cook. We used the grill a lot which was nice because the kitchen is a little small, but the outdoor area is very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this place to friends.

Adorable Country House - Clean and QUIET

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I extended our weekend in northern Michigan and decided to stay in the Empire area. We lucked out on weather and had a warm couple days to venture on a few hikes which were 5-10 minutes from the home, "Little Whisper". The house was well equipped, including a grill and outdoor bonfire pit (which we made great use of). The bed was comfy and house was very clean on arrival. We'll definitely be staying here when we head back in August.

Convenient location, clean but it could use some update

  • 3 of 5

The cottage is located in the middle of Sleeping Bear Dunes area. It is professionally cleaned and welcoming. It has a nice backyard with volleyball court. But the cottage could use some updates. The bathroom faucets were dripping. And the twin mattresses were not comfortable.

A good basecamp for visiting the area, but difficult with young kids

  • 3 of 5

This cozy cottage is in a great location to serve as a basecamp for enjoying Sleeping Bear Dunes, heading to Traverse City, or wine tasting on the peninsulas. We have visited this area several times, but always camped prior to having children. We rented this house with our two young children (2.5 years and 1 year) while our friends camped at nearby Empire Township Campground. The positives of this house are the location, the outdoor yard with a fire pit, grill, and seating, and the owner was overall pleasant. You can tell he wants you to enjoy your stay. Personally, we did not find this house to be well-suited for young kids. The house lacks closets, higher shelves, cabinets, and places to store things out of reach of the children. Cars drive fast on the roads outside, and there is no fence for letting your kids wander in the yard. There are a few games and crayons in the house, as well as a volleyball net outside. This would be much more ideal for a couple, single, or family with school-age or older children. You should be aware that the bigger bedroom does not have a door and is open to the kitchen, so it lacks privacy if you happen to be traveling with others. The owner keeps a very strict pet policy. We also killed many spiders and bugs within the house daily. One recommendation I would have for the owner is to add a small toaster and to include instruments for using the grill outside (spatula, tongs, etc). If you are traveling without young children you can enjoy yourself here, especially if you intend to spend most of your time sight seeing.

The cottage is very charming, surrounded by beautiful landscape. Inside is nicely decorated giving a clam relaxing affect. We had a wonderful time staying there.
