About Chris Fredrickson

A (helpful) brother, (prodigal) son, (considerate) roommate, (savvy) business partner, (always improving) golfer and (versatile) management consultant.

I spend a lot of time traveling for work and play. I spend a few weeks a year out west in the mountains and a few more exploring (scuba) dive sites around the world. I've become the type of person that thrives on spontaneity and never passes on the chance to create a memorable story. You want to hike the Great Wall next week? GREAT, let's do it!

I pride myself on courtesy and consideration and make every effort to keep those around me comfortable (when dining with a big group, I'm the guy that pays attention to seating arrangement, ensuring a good flow of conversation, not leaving anyone out.)

Why Chris Fredrickson chose Empire

The Neighborhood

Out in the wilderness - on a clear night you can see all trillion stars. Oh, and it's very, very quiet.

What makes this cottage unique

- The approximate commuting time from Traverse City depends purely on traffic but generally takes between 18 and 25 minutes.

- The home is situated across the street from a century old barn in a large rye field.

- We've added a fire pit, grill and lounge chairs to aid in your relaxing holiday.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an absolutely fantastic stay from start to finish staying at Chris' charming cottage. There was excellent communication from the very beginning and they were always quick to respond to any questions we had. We arrived very late at night and upon arrival there were fresh flowers in every room, a bottle of wine, doughnuts and cookies and fresh local coffee. The cottage is ideally situated for exploring Sleeping Bear, a short drive from Empire itself and 15 minutes to the main Dunes. I highly recommend staying here if you are thinking of visiting the area.

I don't really want the secret to get out because I love being able to rent this perfect little property! Cozy, but roomy, lovely country atmosphere, everything you need, 2 bedrooms, kitchen, bath and a delightful host. Perfect summer rental.

Not for anyone with allergies.

  • 2 of 5

Please let me say the owner was more than pleasant and the bananas, muffins and wine were a nice offering to our stay. Unfortunately the place was a bit disappointing. The large chunk of threshold missing from the front door left me a bit skeptical when I arrived, and the front door only opens part way. Knowing that the home was heated and cooled by space heaters and fans was not a surprise, as that was mentioned in the property description. There had been a very large storm that had passed through the day before our arrival, but the mustiness in the house did not help with allergies at all. There was some plaster from the living room ceiling on the coffee table which probably came down when the owners closed the door behind them readying the space for our arrival, as I'm sure that wouldn't have been there otherwise. We did try to make the best of it, but before we could cook in the kitchen we needed to clean the pans we found in the oven. It was a bit odd to only find one fork, but fortunately we had a picnic basket we could borrow utensils from. It's not a bad place, but could certainly use some updates and be brought up to proper electrical code. We let the folks know we wouldn't be returning after the first night and were fortunate to find a hotel we could move to.

Cottage stay

  • 5 of 5

Very cute cottage. Wonderful location. The fans inside helped as the last few days it got hot and it was very hot inside. Nice to play badminton and to sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet. The kitchen is very small, more shelves for storage would help. Also, maybe upgrade the pots and pans, and have more eating utensils. There were two forks, no spoons, and a few knives to use. We caught a mouse inside and there were ants that (both) got into our food that was stored on top of a table in the kitchen. We then kept all of our food in the frig.

Otherwise everything we needed was there. Beautiful area!

Empire cottage. Relaxation, BBQ and Campfire

  • 5 of 5

This little cottage is the perfect place to stay especially for people heading to the Homestead (where we spent a lot of time) and other surrounding outdoor adventures (we even did a hike up the Sleeping Bear Dunes). Everything was very tidy and we had everything we needed to cook. We used the grill a lot which was nice because the kitchen is a little small, but the outdoor area is very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this place to friends.

Adorable Country House - Clean and QUIET

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I extended our weekend in northern Michigan and decided to stay in the Empire area. We lucked out on weather and had a warm couple days to venture on a few hikes which were 5-10 minutes from the home, "Little Whisper". The house was well equipped, including a grill and outdoor bonfire pit (which we made great use of). The bed was comfy and house was very clean on arrival. We'll definitely be staying here when we head back in August.
