Tony and Jim our top notch hosts with a beautiful property in the heart of CDM. We have never been welcomed in such a nice way at a VRBO. They had welcome gifts and refreshments tailored just for us and our Labrador retriever. House is great for a couple with a dog. We also hosted couples on the weekends and the house was perfect for up to 4. Very well stocked with anything you may need. We will be back!

I had a very enjoyable stay. What few things required attention, during my stay, were immediately tended to by Tonya & Jim. The neighborhood is charming & the house was very comfortable. Lots of care has been put into making this place very enjoyable for guests.

Home away from home in CDM

This was our second stay in Cottage by the Sea. We love everything about it, and it allows us to be neighbors with family who also live in CDM. They even let us bring our dog:)

Beach vacation

We had the most amazing stay at this cute cottage! We were able to meet Tonya and she had snacks waiting for us along with a set of sweet beach toys for the kids. The cottage had absolutely everything we could possibly need during our stay and was decorated beautifully. The fresh flowers were a special touch and very much appreciated. Checking in and out of the cottage was easy.We can’t wait to return.

Little Slice of Heaven in CDM

We absolutely loved our almost one month long stay in this CDM cottage! Jim and Tonya are the best VRBO hosts we've ever rented from, they go above and beyond as far as little touches left for you upon arrival and for being so prompt in responding to any questions or concerns. Definitely hope to rent this cottage again, we had an amazing time!

Magical, Thoughtful, Comfortable

After a long drive from Texas to CA with our dog the Cottage by the Sea immediately immersed our family in the charm of CDM. The owners made sure every detail was arranged perfectly. Music, lighting, special treats for us and for our dog and comfortable bedding were well thought through and just scratched the surface off all the attention to detail the owners put in to this property. Flowers in every room and decor that allows you to melt your cares away. We enjoyed lounging by the fire pit that was a special touch. CDM was so welcoming and we look forward to returning. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

A CDM Gem

If you are looking for a nice cottage to call home while visiting Newport Beach, look no further. A great place, with great owners who were attentive and responsive. Well stocked, walk to coffee, restaurants, and the beach. Our parents stayed for over a week and couldn’t have been happier. They want this to be “their” place when they come to visit.

Wonderful Cottage!

The cottage is fantastic! The A/C and heat work perfectly and are easy to change. It has beautiful finishes and is extremely comfortable. The location makes walking to the beach, going out to dinner or doing some shopping very convenient. The hosts were genuinely interested in making our stay perfect for us and they succeeded! We will be back!

Property was fine and clean for what we needed. My only slight frustration was with the air con / heating system which we found difficult to modify.

Five stars for the CDM Cottage!

This is one of the nicest vrbo rentals that we have encountered--five stars on every dimension. Especially notable was the first class service from the owners--Jim and Tonya went out of their way to make us feel welcome. There were flowers in every room, wine and treats for the adults and a bed, treats and a toy for our furbaby. The location is absolutely perfect--you can walk to restaurants, the beach, and just strolling around the neighborhood is a delight. We will definitely return!

AMAZING Stay in CDM

Our family had an incredible stay at The Cottage by the Sea! Jim and Tonya have thought of every detail inside and out, beautiful finishes and just lovely throughout. Our family enjoyed walks every morning to the lookout area, movie time in the living room, and could walk or quickly drive to such wonderful restaurants, shops and Balboa Island/beach. We cannot wait to come back! Couldn’t recommend this property any higher-a true gem! Beautiful cottage in a beautiful area! Much higher than a 10 out of 10! Big plus, Jim and Tonya are delightful to engage with AND the fresh flowers, drinks and nibbles upon arrival made us feel so welcomed! LOVED our stay!

Charming Beach Cottage

We chose the perfect beach cottage for our 30th anniversary & it all started with the amazing hosts Tonya & Jim. They made our stay so fabulous every step of the way. Once we entered the cottage, every room was so beautifully decorated. Tonya & Jim had fresh flowers and roses placed throughout the house, a charcuterie waiting for us, wine, coffee, water & the list went on. Yes, we had indeed found the perfect beach cottage to celebrate our anniversary. We loved the street Dahlia. So quiet & serene and a short walk to the ocean. There were plenty of great restaurants nearby and the Sherman Library & Gardens are a must see. Thank you Tonya & Jim for everything. 🪻

Pleasentville - The real life movie!

Best hosts we have ever had at a VRBO property! They look at every need. We had an a issue at first with the ice maker, and they had ice delivered to us everyday. Property is in excellent condition, and the bedding was hotel grade. The linen and towels from Restoration Hardware - top notch. We are so satisfied we are planning on returning next year. Great location with everything you need is in walking distance.

Great cozy stay in cute beach cottage

Our stay at Jim and Tonya's beach cottage with our two dogs was fantastic! From the warm welcome to the well-stocked cottage and great location, everything was perfect. Jim and Tonya were exceptional hosts, ensuring our dogs felt at home with a bed and that we had everything needed including lots of bottled water & a yummy charcuterie plate. The cottage was spotless and beautifully decorated, creating a cozy atmosphere. The kitchen was well-equipped, making meal prep a breeze. The location was great, with lots of parking & in walking distance of the ocean, shopping & dining. Jim and Tonya's hospitality was top-notch, providing recommendations and a friendly atmosphere. Jim and Tonya went the extra mile to make the week enjoyable, and we really appreciated their clear and prompt communications throughout the booking process and our stay … unmatched! We were pleasantly surprised by the fresh flowers and other “welcoming touches” that greeted us on arrival. Our grandchildren made good use of the games and activity books provided and everyone enjoyed gathering around the fire pit in the evening. The cottage is great for dog owners since the front deck is enclosed and there are two parks close-by (1.5 blocks and 3.5 blocks) as well as the beach areas (.6 mile). We couldn’t have asked for a more enjoyable experience! We plan to return.

Exceptional Hosts

Tonya is the most amazing host we could have imagined! She had fresh flowers in every room upon our arrival, a stocked fridge, an amazing charcuterie board and countless other touches that made our stay feel like a 5 star hotel experience. Tonya went above and beyond and is the most exceptional host we have had the pleasure of renting from. The cottage is located on the most charming street in CDM, within walking distance to restaurants and shopping. The beach was only about a 5-10 minute walk and the cottage was fully stocked with beach towels and toys. The cottage was dog friendly and our pups very much enjoyed the enclosed patio in the front of the cottage! We were initially worried about the parking situation, but it was never an issue finding multiple open parking spots on the street, regardless of time of day. Thank you, Tonya, for sharing your beautiful home with us. We can’t wait to return next summer!

We started sharing our home with perfect strangers. With most people saying we were crazy. Saying things like, "you are letting people you don't know in your home. What's wrong with you guys?" Well, with guests like Elizabeth, we made the absolute best decision ever! Elizabeth and her family are exactly the reason we do what we do. They started off as strangers and now will always be a part of our journey. Each of our guests brings love and happiness into our home and Elizabeth and her family didn't disappoint. Absolute wonderful guests.

Wonderful!

My family and I very much enjoyed this rental property. From start to finish everything went smoothly. The property was spotless and communication with the homeowners was super easy. The welcome basket and extra touches made us feel welcome and right at home immediately. The house is exactly as depicted in the photos. Although it is small, the space is set up to provide maximum comfort. All appliances worked and even the knives were sharp! We cooked dinner in every night and had everything we needed. The wifi and televisions worked perfectly. We were in shock at the ease of parking in a beach community. There was always street parking available at or near the house. Beach access is about a 15 minute walk (with dog and kid in tow) but the walk is beautiful. The neighborhood is bright and cheerful and well maintained. So getting to the beach was half the fun. We would most definitely return.

Perfection By The Sea

Our experience with this rental was wonderful! The location is perfect in walking distance to the beach and numerous restaurants. The home is very clean with a lovely decor and very comfortable beds. Jim and Tonya were wonderful hosts very easy and quick to communicate with. They took extra care to make our stay wonderful. There were fresh flowers in every room and a fabulous array of goodies to eat throughout our week away. I highly recommend this home and hope to return soon. Thank you for a lovely getaway.

Absolutely perfect!!!!

One word: WOW! I cannot say enough great things about this beautiful, perfectly appointed cottage! Fresh flowers in every room, delicious wines and snacks, gorgeous rooms! We absolutely loved staying here and cannot wait to come back! Jim and Tonya were the best hosts and made us feel pampered and so welcomed!
