This home is located on a hill and has a stunning view of the Shenandoah Valley. The large front porch offers a relaxed setting for conversation, eating, watching the clouds, or reading great books. The interior is light, airy, and spacious. The kitchen is well-equipped with tableware, dishes, pots and pans. Fair-trade coffee, tea, and sugar are provided. There is a two-car garage and plenty of parking space in the driveway. In addition to the spectacular view, the home offers quick and easy access to EMU and JMU in minutes. There are grocery stores conveniently located near-by and delicious food within walking distance, including Bowl of Good and La Morena's. The Shenandoah Valley has the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and the George Washington National Forest to the the west. Both areas are renown for skiing, hiking and biking trails, and dramatic foliage in the fall. The area around Harrisonburg hosts a number of music festivals, including Red Wing Roots Festival, Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival, and the Shenandoah Music Festival with performances throughout the summer and into the fall. The town has a quiet small town charm with impressive public parks and a most delicious Annual Chocolate Walk in addition to many other festive events. As an added bonus, area universities offer a wide range of cultural performances throughout the year. And the splendid American Shakespeare Blackfriars Playhouse is a mere thirty minutes away in Staunton.

Beautiful home and gracious hosts!
Mary's home is truly beautiful both inside and out. There are spectacular views outside and a nice porch to view from. We had fun watching a local cat run around the yard. The inside of the house is very spacious, bright, and open. Perfect for group gatherings. The dining table expands to fit large groups and the kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, spices -- most everything we needed. There is a TV in the sun room with cable, and our group appreciated that there was a door between the TV room and the living room so we could tamper down some of the TV sound. All the bedrooms and bathrooms feel very clean and new. Mary was also very responsive to my messages and was understanding when our group was running late to check out. Thanks for a great weekend stay!
Comfortable, fresh, and spacious. Well equipped and gracious hosts.
Highly recommend, especially if you've got a big crowd for a JMU game. Could easily accommodate 5 couples.
Here are directions and other info for our house. But first, just FYI, there is a separate apartment over the garage to our house where a young couple, Andrew and Sharon, live. They are friends of the family and help keep an eye on the place when we are gone. Their apartment is separate from the house but your group may see their car in the garage or parked at the house or see them around outside sometimes.
Here are directions: From Greystone Street in Harrisonburg, turn right onto Smith Avenue. Count the houses on your left. Just after the sixth house, turn directly left onto the driveway and go straight up the hill to the end of the long driveway. The house number “973,” is over the garage and is also on the mailbox just before you turn left to go up the hill.
The keypad code for entry into the front door is 891256. Press the Schlage logo first to light up the keypad. When you leave the house, press the Schlage logo to lock the door behind you. If you press the wrong number, press the Schlage logo to clear the keypad and then try again.
Information about internet access is in the House Manual on-line at this site and is also inside on the fridge door.
If you run into any difficulties with the directions or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call us at 540 246 3211 or 614 530 7064.
Enjoy your stay! Mary and Dave
