Timber-mill worker's cottage in the Otways town of Forrest

Our rustic home in the town of Forrest is a wonderful place to stay whether you are exploring the Otways, the Great Ocean Road, having dinner at Brae, or just spending a weekend discovering Forrest's mountain bike trails and brewery.

Our home is comfortable and cosy. We stay there ourselves as often as we can, but it is a small and pretty basic house, so if you are expecting 4 or 5-star accommodation, it will not be for you!

Forrest is a relatively remote town, so stock up on any food or condiments that you think you will need for your stay. Our kitchen is fully equipped, so you shouldn't have a problem once you are here. You should expect to bring anything you would bring for a camping holiday. Forrest is a remote town, with limited supplies available at the General Store.

Forrest and the house get cold in the winter months. We have a couple of oil heaters and a wood heater, but pockets of the house can still get cold, so pack accordingly. If you are planning to use the wood heater, bring your own supply of firewood, kindling, and fire lighters. Note that the main fireplace has been sealed and cannot be used.

The bathroom is neat but basic, with a shower over a bath, but the water is hot and runs well.

Please be aware that we have several security cameras on the outside of the house. There are no cameras inside.

AS A GUIDE, YOU SHOULD BRING:
- Food, drink, and condiments, including milk, tea, and coffee.
- Insect repellent, sunscreen.
- Firewood, kindling, fire starters, lighters, if you plan to use the wood heater.
- Extra blankets if you are visiting in winter.
- A full tank of fuel in your car.


WHAT WE PROVIDE:
- Quilts, bed linen and towels.
- Our kitchen has all the utensils and amenities you would need to cook/ prepare meals for an extended stay, including an oven, kettle, toaster, fridge, and coffee machine.
- Basic heating and cooling: we have some electric heaters, electric blankets on most beds, and some fans.
- Internet, fast and reliable enough for remote working.
- Hot shower/ hot water.
- Internet connected TV.
- Washing machine and dryer.

Enjoyable stay - the cottage had rustic charm. The kettle seemed to trip the circuit breaker. Fabulous birds in the area. And we did see some platypuses.

Cosy Cottage

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage which was very cosy and really felt like home.It was everything we wanted amenity wise and the location was perfect, close to everything. We would definitely stay there again.

Cosy Cottage

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage was very comfortable and cosy, and had everything we needed. Communication with Marty was excellent, and we would definitely come back.

Timber Cutters Cottage

We had a lovely stay at Timber Cutters Cottage. The home has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The location is nice, and the host was quick to respond to any questions. Highly recommend!

Mill cottage for family wedding

We had a wonderful stay in Forrest in the timber Mill cottage.The cottage was clean, tidy and had everything we needed.Short walk to general store and Forrest Brewery for cuppa and breakfast.Thanks Marty for clear instructions that helped us find the cottage in the dark.Great short getaway for a family wedding.

A comfortable stay

A well-equipped small house within walking distance of the town (brewery and general store). Short drive to many lovely walks and bike trails. Great fireplace in kitchen (but not working in TV room). Quite cold in the back of the house (eg bathroom). Would be a plus to not have to bring sheets, towels etc but that was well communicated. Overall a comfortable stay.

Great place to getaway!!

We really enjoyed our stay in Forrest. The house was very cosy with everything you need for a great break. Location was perfect for us, our kids really enjoyed going over to the park at the Commons whilst we enjoyed keeping an eye on them from the balcony. Conveniently located to the bike and walking trails and just a short walk to the General Store and Brewery. Communication with Marty was exceptional, would definitely stay here again.

Just what you need

Great value in a great town. The house was better equipped than the description with a lovely outlook from the verandah and the kids made use ofbthe Forrest Common and tennis courts, playground opposite. Perfect for the mtb riding family.

Work trip

Booked 3 weeks wich was relatively simple . Finished up early which was a blessing because the house would of been an oven in the hot weather without aircon , but overall it served a purpose well enough.

Winter stay in Forrest

We had the cosiest stay in Forrest. Our 3 young kids loved being across the road from the playground. The wood heater was a dream and kept us beautifully warm. The house was exactly how we expected. Marty was contactable when needed. We would definitely stay here again.

Weekend away in Forrest

My partner and I were both happy we chose this property for a quick weekend away. The house had everything we needed and it wasnt really a bother to have to bring the bedding and towels with us. Loved the cozyiness of the lounge room with the fireplace and big tv! Location was excellent for Lake Elizabeth which was one of my main reasons for choosing this place in Forrest. Id love to come back!

Great value

Great value stay. The heaters that are supplied keep the place warm if you don't use the fireplace. Kitchen is well-stocked with plenty of space for cooking and food preparation. Owner's instructions were really detailed and helpful - was glad to see that internet is available, which came in very handy when I had to do some work unexpectedly.

Perfect for an Otways getaway

The Timber-Mill workers cottage was perfect for our family getaway to the Otways. The cottage was clean, neat and contained everything we needed for our stay. The description of the property was accurate, and communications from the host were clear and helpful in advising what to expect and what to bring with us to make the most of our stay. The location is great, opposite the town common, and short walk to the local pub, brewery and general store/cafe. Also a short drive to Lake Elizabeth and very central for exploring the waterfalls, passes and forest trails and surprisingly close to the coast for beach access. I would definitely stay again.

Beware

What a con job - way way down the listing, after notes about pets and accessibility is the note that NO bedding is provided, this doesn’t mean just sheets, it means quilts/blankets and pillows. You also have to bring your own firewood!! So we arrived at 6pm , it was 9 degrees and the house was cold. What exactly are we paying for? It was also decrepit at the back with a gutter running at the back door. The owners clothes were also hanging up in public view. I felt ripped off not delighted. This house should not be listed with Stayz given the basic amenities. We left and drove to Apollo Bay.

Cannot recommend highly enough

From checking to check out, Marty and Amanda were amazing hosts. Communication is key and the couple were always in touch when needed. The cottage itself is a dated little dwelling similar to most houses in Forrest, so please don’t go expecting a posh hotel. The house has been beautifully updated in all high use areas including the kitchen, dining and master bedroom- in fact, the kitchen is better than what we have at home! This cottage is suitable mainly for a single family but also fine for two adults if one is happy to play rock paper scissors for the big bed. I visit Forrest occasionally and will be using this place again and am recommending it by word of mouth too. Thanks Marty and Amanda

Lovely, well appointed cottage

We are a family of two adults and two kids. We had a lovely relaxing stay at Marty's cottage over the school holidays. The house was easy to find and very well located to walk to the general store and brewery.We loved the wide and covered front deck with the view through the front garden to the Forrest common across the road. The kids loved having the playground across the road too.The house was very clean and well appointed. The kitchen is very user friendly, with a great coffee machine and oven, and really everything you could need!The house was warm and cozy, with a couple of very efficient heaters and a working fireplace in the kitchen. The bathroom is clean and functional. The back of the house feels older and more rustic than the front section, but this was part of the charm, and perfectly liveable.As mentioned in the house description, there is no bedding, so you need to bring your own doonas, sheets and pillowslips, as well as towels. The Forrest Brewery is fantastic for a meal or drink, and there are lots of great walks, waterfalls, biking nearby. We also enjoyed visits to Apollo Bay and Lorne for some beach time. Marty the host was very responsive and helpful.We would love to return in the future. Thanks for sharing your cottage with us Marty :)

Neat & tidy, mostly renovated and fully equipped for our stay. Quiet street. 45min drive to beautiful beaches. Owners truthfully communicated that it is not 4 or 5 star but we found it completely comfortable for our 4nights away. Oil heaters were very efficient at keeping the place toasty warm. We didn’t use the wood fire heater. Would recommend.
