Robert and Carmen were excellent hosts and we absolutely loved Branchfield House which felt like a home away from home. Very comfy indeed, a lovely and warm burner and everything we needed for a stay - can’t get better than a properly stocked kitchen! Great location for getting out and about too, whilst being nice and remote. Perfect for our NY getaway.

Sheila and her family were perfect guests whom we recommend to all hosts... excellent communicators and delightful company.
Carmen & Robert wish them happy onward journey.
This is absolutely the most beautiful rental property we have ever stayed at. Highly recommend!
From the moment we arrived we fell in love with the charm of this home. We are a family of six and there was plenty of space for everyone to spread out, but also many places for us to come together and all be comfortable in the space. The home was beautifully decorated and perfectly outfitted with everything that we could need. The hosts, Robert and Carmen, were lovely and made us feel very welcome. We were sad to leave and will definitely come back if we are ever in Ireland again.

Mario's first request was to watch the Wimbledon Final and he kindly tutored Robert in things he never knew about tennis :-)
Carmen and I thoroughly enjoyed accompanying Cristine's family in an Aussie style BBQ in the garden.
Their charming and gracious family are highly recommended to other Hosts.
We had a wonderful Christmas break in this lovely home near Ballymote, Co Sligo. The kitchen was fabulously stocked with everything we needed for Christmas dinner. The living room was cosy and comfortable with a stove fire. No TV meant we could avail of the many reading spots dotted around the house. The bedrooms and bathrooms were beautifully furnished with candles throughout. Our hosts who live behind the house made us feel so welcome. We loved it and hope to be back soon.

Grainne and family were the perfect guests and we happily recommend their stays to other hosts. The house was left orderly and spotless so our turnaround was made easy. Carmen and I look forward to hosting Grainne again. Five stars thanks guys.
We had a great vacation at Branchfield House thanks to our wonderful hosts Robert and Carmen.
The property is unique as it is located on a gorgeous plot, which is well maintained.
Our grandchildren were fascinated with closeup contacts with the chickens and ducks that freely roamed the area.
The location served as a convenient location for the numerous trips around the Sligo/Donegal area during our stay.
We look forward to spending another vacation there in the future.
Robert and Carmen have built a beautifully restored stone house, surrounded by a wonderful edible garden, and they are the most gracious hosts one could ask for.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with them, and look forward to returning when time and circumstances allow.

David & Anita were very special guests in that they were self-content, left the house in perfect condition and celebrated all the details provided.
Carmen & Robert welcome them back any time and recommend them to all hosts.
Escape from the world...at least for a little while
Like a continental oasis in the Northwest of Ireland.
The house, complete with period orangery, brimming with ripe strawberries, is so well thought out with relaxation in mind.
Having two grandchildren (twelve and two years) in tow, we wondered how we would survive with no TV. We needn't have worried, as the twelve year old found a comfortable corner and ensconced herself with books and (of course) her phone (there is decent wifi). The two year old discovered the hand cart provided, padded with plenty of cushions, and enjoyed long periods of being pulled round the beautiful garden, observing the chickens and ducks along the way. Not so much fun for the person pulling him.
Kitchen and bathroom fittings and equipment, beds and bedding are of the highest quality, and abundant quantities of towels are supplied.
The only thing which we felt was missing, was a microwave. I know this divides opinions with many, but it does come in handy particularly when it comes to heating up kid's meals or doing a baked potato in double quick time!
If the weather turns chilly, there is a wood burning stove in the living room with plenty of fuel provided. And also a cupboard full of blankets to snuggle into.
The area is very quiet. The garden surrounds you with a diverse range of trees and plants, including two walnut trees. The house is about 15 minutes from Sligo Town, which may or may not suit everyone. We found ourselves relaxing into it as days went by.
The owners, Robert and Carmen are wonderfully friendly people. They manage to balance being available to help or answer queries with being completely unobtrusive. They are interesting and interested, and always have time to chat, while successfully running other enterprises (ask Robert about the World Smallest Kite), they seem to have boundless energy. They are as much part of the overall experience as the beautiful house, which Robert and Carmen built with their own hands.
As you have probably gathered, we really enjoyed our time in Branchfield House, and we say to Robert and Carmen,
"May the wind never change you, but carry your kite as high as your dreams "

Hi Niamh
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. It was for Carmen & I such a pleasure to host your family.
On the subject of microwaving food we have long contemplated that its only virtue is convenience… we also understand that by using it, all nutritional value is lost on health and well-being and is why we decided not to sponsor such a device.
As with the TV… we can all survive without!
Hope we have the opportunity to meet again.
With very best wishes
Robert & Carmen
5 star in every way... every available comfort and facility available...
Everything about this property including the hosts just blew us away.... far exceeded our expectations... we were a very mixed group of people... teenagers , young adults aged 18 to 30 years and , we the parents and our grandchild and this house exceeded all our needs and expectations of a homestaycation... and we all enjoyed it so much... we had in house spa treatments provided by Carmen.. and this was such a treat. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer... No one would want to spend money on a 5 star hotel stay when they could rent this property with its 5 star facilities and comfort . Thanks to Robert and Carmen for providing such an amazing house for a homestaycation...

Eithne and Oliver, including their grown up children, are the most charming guests to have stay! We made a connection Immediately and their friendly and open manner allowed everyone to enjoy some good banter. Kind and very caring, Eithne secured our garden furniture when storm ‘Ellen’ hit and saved all cushions and covers by placing them inside! (We had gone to bed already!)
The house was left spotless and even beds were stripped, which was very thoughtful, as we had another check-in that day!
We welcome them back anytime!
Perfect guests!

The house is in a wonderful location, so quiet and serene. All of the furnishings were high quality, and the decor very interesting. The orangery was nice on cooler days to let you be outside. This is a special place.

About the host
Hosted by Robert Campbell-Lloyd
Carmen & Robert brought their family to the west coast in 1998 for a life after Australia, Germany and England. The name Branchfield House comes from the Townland name Branchfield in County Sligo. It's architecture has both Irish and English heritage... now lovingly restored. Our children are spread all over the world and so we welcome our guests to share in what the family has created.
Carmen is a qualified masseuse specialising in stress-relief therapies and husband Robert is a Landscape Architect with an internet business WORLD smallest KITE. They each share a passion for cooking, rarely eat out, make exquisite tea and coffee, use exclusive organic ingredients with home grown seasonal herbs, veg, eggs and wine. The kitchen garden produces seasonal crops and a work in progress is daily attendance of a beautifully restored Victorian Orangery that provides salad veges and early morning sunshine.
Our own Airbnb travels seek 3 basics - a cosy bed, excellent shower pressure and pure drinkable water and we think you will enjoy all three. Carmen's liking for making her guests feel at home can only be called luxurious and she recommends guests to bring their favourite cosy slippers as we encourage shoes off-at-the-door... slippers also provided.
The Guest House is set across a landscaped courtyard that catches the best of the sun and guests are welcome to bask in the many private nooks. The surrounding land is farmed with grazing cows and sheep and the courtyard has chickens, ducks and birds that sing the dawn chorus. Robert is usually found gardening or restoring the dry stone walls so there's normally someone on hand to assist with enquiries. Carmen has fluent German and Robert fluent Australian :-) If what you seek is privacy then we'll leave you to enjoy. We look forward to your visit.
Why they chose this property

What makes this property unique
Off the well-equipped kitchen is a 42 square metre Orangery that supplies cucumbers, tomatoes, chilli and seasonal veg for our guests. It includes seating area and an extra sink for the barbecue. A huge glass awning covers the outdoor seating area that's south facing to catch the sun. Carmen offers guests her signature wellness therapies of Seaweed/Peat Bath, Facial, Hot Stone Massage, Aromatherapy and Indian Head Massage - all by prior appointment so please request brochure.
