Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

Overview

About the property

Sleeps 10, Great Views, 3 Bd, 2 Bath...and a FULL LAKE in 2016!

Our Shasta Lakeshore Retreat is a special place for all to enjoy on the BEST lake in California (FULL IN 2016 and 2017, always flat water easy to find, 80-90 degrees in summer, 365 miles of shoreline) and located on the most desirable part of the lake (upper Sacramento arm in the wonderful community of Lakehead). The lake house is one of the closest to Sugarloaf Marina. The recently (2012) internally remodeled home (or cabin) features two stories of living space with high wood beam ceilings and large windows looking out onto the lake and mountains: The summer of 2016 and 2017 was booked 100% and based on comments from guests and current bookings we expect the same in 2018. Please book early if interested in our unique place on the lake.

- 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths (added 2nd shower), family/media room, kitchen/great room with big window views

- 2 large beautiful Lakeview decks (one brand new) with mature tree shading (upper and lower floor) and even water misters for the warmest days. View of lake, marina, mountains and wildlife from Deck.

- Brand New (July 2017) Air Conditioning System

- Easy RV/Boat Parking, plenty of parking for multiple cars

- Quiet family vacation neighborhood

- Hot tub/spa on deck

- Boat launch is very short drive (less than 1/2 mile)

- Marina has great boat slips for $25 a night (call to book ahead). Great way to enjoy lakefront vacationing. Leave the boat...Walk back and forth.

- Although water does drop like any reservoir, you can always see the lake and marina from decks (no houses in front as we are on the shoreline).

- Two HD flat screen TVs (40" and 50") and DVRs (directTV).

- Internet wifi...

- MicroCell for ATT Cell Phones (need to have owners add you for access)

- TOP FLOOR at driveway level (only small step up from deck) including kitchen, dining area and living area with big windows and great views. This is the main room. Couch in living area is a pull out and sleeps 2. Also master bedroom with queen bed. Bathroom. Largest of two decks with table, chairs, gas firepit and gas BBQ.

- LOWER FLOOR includes a bedroom with a queen bed, another bedroom with two twin beds, full bathroom, family/media room with pull out couch. This room walks out to second deck with spa/hot tub plus views of the lake and property. Note that these stairs are steeper than normal. Need to be careful with elderly/small children.

- Location offers summer temperatures on the deck and around the cabin that are about 10-15 degree less than just up the hill at one of the other rentals because of mature trees/shade and proximity to lake. This is a BIG plus for Shasta in the Summer!

- Air conditioning, ceiling fans, extra fans if needed, heater and wood pellet stove.

- Watch deer and other wildlife every day as you sit on the deck enjoying your coffee in the morning or your drink of choice in the evening.

- Path including steps to edge of Lake (when full)

- Seasonal Rushing Creek through yard into lake

- There are also endless back country roads for ATVs and hunters. We drive our ATVs directly from the cabin down the road to the dirt road.

- Recent upgrades include (Internet, HD TVs, Painted Exterior, New Roof, New Wood Shutters, Blinds and Shades throughout, Enlarged Photos on Canvas of local area throughout the home, upgraded bar stools, 2nd indoor shower and a new deck).

- ADDITIONAL PHOTOS (over 200) can be found on our web site.

Notes: this is a wonderful place but there are a couple things we want to make sure our guests understand:

1. Although Lake Shasta is the best lake for watersports, swimming, fishing and general boating in California, it is a reservoir. The water is let out all year long into the Sacramento river which supplies water to many parts of the state. This combined with low rain fall or drought years can drive the lake level down significantly. This pushes our distance from the lake house to the water out as the level drops. This can be significant. Fortunately even in terrible drought years (like 2015), the house still has a view of the lake (unlike some parts of the lake which dry up entirely). 2016 and 2017 the lake filled to the top.

2. The lower water levels might make the boat ramp several hundred yards further and will make the walk to the marina a little longer. At times the walk can be steep to the marina when water level is very low. After 4 years of drought (Fall 2015)...the lake still had plenty of water for watersports and sightseeing. Not an issue at all like most lakes in California. Boat ramp and marina in front of our house remained open. It still took us 45-60 minutes to drive our boat at speed from one end to the other.....There was plenty of water....plenty of GREAT water.

3. The decks are high off the ground. Although they have railings as you would expect, if you have children, you need to watch them all the time outside as a fall from the upper deck would be a serious or life threatening fall. Also the slope behind the house has a trail to the water's edge (when lake full) but it is steep and young children should not go alone.

4. The stairway to the lower floor is steep. If you have elderly staying with you, we do not recommend having them stay on the lower floor. We recommend they stay on the upper floor and use that bedroom.

In May 2017 we started renting the place next door.

It has been just added to VRBO. Look for VRBO # 926144. It is larger with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. Will sleep 14. If you would like to book both of them for a party of 24 you can do them separately or use VRBO #934760

About Lori Raun

My husband and I have been coming to Shasta Lake as our highlight of the summer for 20 years with our children. We have found it is great place for families and the great resource of activities for all ages to enjoy. We enjoyed our time so much we decided to buy this lake house. The previous owners also rented it out and it become one of the most desired rentals for all the reasons listed above. We are enjoying when we can but want you to enjoy it also. We think it is the best house on the lake.

We like it so much we recently bought the larger house next door. See VRBO 926144.

Lori Raun purchased this house in 2015

Why Lori Raun chose Shasta Lake

Easy decision. Although there were many places for sale including many with great views, we wanted to be on the lake, enjoy the cooler temperature by the water surrounded by mature trees and be close to the marina. We have done house boating and rented many of the properties but nothing compares to this. Some are larger and might be nicer looking on the outside (not inside)...but you can't beat this place. We have made significant investments into this place. We liked it so much and demand to rent it is so great we bough the one next door also. See VRBO 926144.

What makes this house unique

Location, location, location!

Close to Boating/Fishing

Close to ATV Trails

EASY Drive from California and Oregon locations.

Unlike other California lakes in droughts, Shasta Lake has NEVER been short on water.

You can rent just this house or combine with the one next door (to be ready after the first of the year) providing room for parties of 24+. See VRBO 926144

Guestbook comments from the owner

Enjoyed the amazing view of the lake. We truly enjoyed our stay here! Having A/C and being so close to the lake on hot days like this is absolutely wonderful. The decks are the perfect place for hanging out at night.

Relaxing Spring Break at Shasta Lake

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at your cabin. The cabin is clean; the lake views are beautiful; and we had a great time despite some rainy weather. The cabin was a great place to hang out, stay dry, and watch the rain come down outside. We look forward to another opportunity to stay here.

Really wanting to keep this a secret!

  • 5 of 5

This property is a treasure. An overdue Girls Trip brought us here, perfect middle meeting spot between So. Oregon and Bay Area. This cute cabin turned out to be everything we wanted or needed. Waterfront, cozy, nicely appointed. Lori went the extra mile making available an extra household appliance available to us. And was quick to respond to my text when we were on-site and had a question. The beds and linens were 5-star quality. We were too early in the year for boating activities, but that allowed for some much needed peace and tranquility. Didn't see any deer, though we saw hawks and Turkey vultures. Would love to return during the summer, especially with the lake levels rebounding after several drought years. Thanks Lori and Dave!

Spent a long holiday weekend visiting our son who goes to BSSM in Redding. Great location! So peaceful. Equally easy to ski Shasta or go to church at Bethel. We will be back! Thanks for sharing your home!

Lovely lakefront location with easy access to highway

  • 4 of 5

The view is lovely and the owners are helpful. They were thoughtful enough to surprise us by decorating for our stay over the Christmas holiday and return items we forgot. We all did an acrylic painting of the view from the terrace. Sitting in the hot tub on the lower terrace is very private and relaxing. It was lovely to have the lake trails right outside the door and there is privacy even though you are close to the neighbors. There were good instructions for the heating and amenities but it does take some reading and effort to get things going in winter. We had to do a little furniture rearranging to get 6 people at the table and we had to run the dishes after every meal to have enough plates and pots, bring some disposables. We would likely rent the owners other property next time because the downstairs bathroom is in the queen bedroom and there is no entrance to the bathroom from the twin bedroom. So my one adult daughter had to interrupt her sister and husband to use the bathroom. There is good space in rooms and closet areas to keep your baggage out from under your feet.Overall we had a great holiday and felt quite at home.

Owner's Response: Hello Vicky, First, sorry for my delay in this response. Thanks for staying with us and leaving this detailed review for other to read. I am sure the painting is very nice. Yes it is unfortunate the door to the one bathroom requires you to go through the one bedroom. Retreat #2 also has the one bathroom off the master so a similar situation. Sorry about the dishwasher, it is just a standard size so for a full size group you will likely have to run daily. We enjoyed putting up the holiday decorations and tree up for you and other guests. We are glad you liked them. Thanks again for staying with us. You are welcome back any time. Lori

Beautiful property, beautiful surroundings, excellent service.

  • 5 of 5

The house is lovely... well appointed and decorated ... and very welcoming. The one thing that was MOST appreciated was that it was absolutely spotless ... and I mean spotless ... upon our arrival. It appeared that the cleaning service had been arranged to be there just before we arrived, so everything was clean, shiny, and fresh smelling.

We never met the owner, but that doesn't mean that we were not properly attended to. When we had a question, a simple email was all it took and her response was prompt. She monitored the weather report, and when she noticed that the weather was to take a turn, she made arrangements to have additional pellets for the stove delivered so there was no chance that we would be uncomfortably cold. Bottom line is that Ms. Raun anticipated our every need and attended to them without ever intruding on our stay. Excellent accommodations, excellent service, and every member of our group would gladly stay there again.

Owner's Response: Mike, We are so pleased that our home offered everything you needed for your vacation. Your kind comments were a delight to receive and we sincerely hope you or your family and friends consider staying with us again real soon. We've added a second rental home, VRBO 926144, called "Shasta Lakeshore Retreat #2" which sleeps up to14 guests, under construction but with the remodel complete by February/March 2017. Great for large family gatherings or reunions! Again, Mike, thank you for such positive feedback on our lake home. We know how important reviews are for our future guests in considering their vacation. Kind regards, Lori and Dave Raun
