The Gatehouse A Charming self contained house in lush tropical garden
The Gate house is a free standing, two bedroom house in a gated compound. The house overlooks the Lake of Conception, it's shady green coves and forested hills.
The house is surrounded by lush garden and is very private. It is situated about 20 metres from the road, so you can hear moderate traffic passing throughout the day.
The Canto da lagoa is a largely residential neighborhood but does have very good restaurants, shops and cafes.
The canto is self sufficient as far as food goes. We have a good cheese shop/deli, a Hipperbom supermarket and a fantastic fresh produce stand all within a few minutes.
A bus stop is located conveniently on the road outside the house with fast access to lagoa and the main bus terminal. Buses come every 15 minutes. From there connections can be made to the rest of the Island.
The Canto is part of Lagoa but is on the outskirts of the town. During average days it is a 7 minute drive to Centrinho, the centre of lagoa. During summer if you are not aware of rush hours you can get stuck in Lagoa traffic and jammed as people are trying to get to and from some of the more popular beaches such as Pria Mole.
The main drag of lagoa is lined with cafes, restaurants, bars and boutiques and they are always full and happening during the holidays.
It is great to be next to where it is all at on the south of the island but not to be in it.
The Gate House is a place to lie on the hammock and chill out with head phones on. By all means invite friends and have a BBQ, that is what I built it for.
Plan your day so that you are not driving at maximum beach going times.
If you ever need a launcher which carries up to 8 people, then this can be employed for the day as a way of getting around, traffic free. It comes with a captain. Imagine this scenario, you want to go to pria Mole or come back from there and the traffic is snaking slowly around the island, faster to walk, except i tis too damned hot. But who wants to do that when they can go by launcher. Website to follow.
Once away from the property there are so many beaches, lakes and beauty spots to choose from, you will not have time to go to them all, you are totally spoiled for choice in Florianopolis.
However if you want to do stand up paddle then the lake in front of the house is a perfect location.
I enjoy going out before sun down on a summers evening for a paddle. As you glide silently past the white herons fishing for their supper enjoy the back yards of some of the most exclusive estates on the island.
The sun rises for us and goes down in the west but the colours bleed out over the dunes; being on the lake at this time is just divine.

I am a professional chef and artist. After 20 years In New York in a career that involved intense immersion in art and food, including high profile media work, I moved here to Florianopolis to raise my children.
As I bought a large and partially forested property of 4.500 M2 overlooking the lake I decided to renovate the existing houses and host guests.

The Canto da Lagoa is a long and winding stretch of road that snakes along the lake from the iconic town of lagoa da Conceicao to the Porto da lagoa, 2 km away . The Canto neighbourhood is fringed with condominiums, exclusive lake side properties and houses scattered throughout the verdant hills.
We have a variety of good restaurants and different types of shops. there are many gyms and yoga venues close by and often with great views. I practice pilates at the Centro de Ser and the views are amazing.
I love this neighborhood because it is convenient to lagoa, the city centre, many destinations and great beaches within 5km of the property.
The views from Hideaway Hill are magnificent. I love standing on my balcony watching now just the birds but also the water sports and the occasional helicopter landing at a lakeside property.
The variety of birds and plants on the property is due to the fact that I have not over built, I have left the little forest intact and all of the houses are well spaced out with privacy in mind. For people who love nature and botanical gardens, Hideaway Hill is unparalleled in its large variety of plants and its aqua floresta style.
Its a quiet place where our guests can relax either in their own spaces or beside the communal pool.

All of the houses are regularly maintained. I invest a lot in good quality, aesthetically pleasing furniture, paintings, etc. Everything is designed for comfort and simplicity.
We are in a safe space as we have a surrounding fence and electric gate. I have a caretaker living on site and he is part of the vigilance, watching the cameras and ensuring that the gate does not malfunction. Our two dogs, Jackie and Bo patrol the condominium at night and this also contributes to the feeling of security here. We have never had problems of any sort.
