Apartment in S'Algar, Menorca, Balearic Islands - Partly Residential Peaceful Area But With All Facilities 'On-Hand'
About Diane McHugh
The owners are connected with a family business and have been visiting Menorca since 1986 when after a 2 week holiday in the S'Algar Hotel the family decided to purchase a property in the area as the island was very different to other Balearic Islands and provided a totally relaxing experience.........& safe for the younger family members. Diane, who has been employed by the owners for over 30 years, handles all the reservations and can provide additional information as a regular visitor to the Apartment. We are relaxed and easy to deal with and after 30 years on the Island have a regular clientele of guests as we have always charged a fair rental and appreciate our regular visitors who love S'Algar and the Island as much as we do.
Diane McHugh purchased this Apartment in 1998
Why Diane McHugh chose Sant Lluís
The family jointly owned a 4 bed villa for 12 years and 'downsized' to this well sized but easily manageable apartment when the children moved on..........they now visit with their families of course. You will find ex-pat permanent residents in these properties who are always willing to be helpful should you have any questions about S'Algar, whilst you find your bearings, or the Island in general.
What makes this Apartment unique
Total relaxation and the opportunity of some fabulous restaurants both in S'Algar & San Lluis the local town. If you wish to meet people, you will find neighbouring residents and regular visitors both friendly & welcoming in the bar/restaurants in 'The Square'. The first floor sun-roof is totally private if you just want to 'crash out' and sunbathe.

Superb views from balcony. Spacious and airy accommodation
Wonderful stay in this well located apartment. Upon arrival the property was very clean and inviting. The facilities are excellent and everything required for a self catering stay was available. The apartment is larger than expected. In a great location and wonderful views from the balcony and roof top terrace. Couple of minutes walk to the large swimming pool at Las Palmeras where there were always plenty of beds available. No need to reserve beds for the day they are always available. Staff at Las Palmeras very friendly and even booked the taxi for us to return to the airport. The 10/15 minute walk to the superb beach at Alcafur was very pleasant and the sea very safe for families .
Enjoyed every part of our stay
A lovely apartment with great views especially from the roof terrace. Problem with only one bed made up was quickly resolved by the agent. Most enjoyable stay, enhanced by lovely weather. Nearby hotel good for occasional meal and entertainment. All in all, a great place to stay for a peaceful comfortable holiday.
Beautiful with marvellous sea views
My wife and I have stayed here before and enjoyed it. We where surprised this time to see the changes the owners have made, such as two new settees and a new table & chairs plus a new wardrobe and bedside table in the front bedroom . The management told us that the other bedroom is to be updated in the future. The apartment is in a beautiful spot on the island and only 15 minutes from the capital, Mahón. 15 minutes from airport also. Sunshine on the front terrace in the morning and on the roof terrace in the afternoon. Bars and restaurants in the village square are very good and all the staff speak excellent English. Overall a fantastic stay. Jim & Sue
Great views, but cleanliness let’s it down.
Upon arrival everything looked lovely and welcoming. The balcony and roof terrace has a fantastic view. This was tainted somewhat when entering the bathroom. A little mastic to cover up the black bits around the bath, and a little more care and attention to loose hairs and dirt on and under the shower mat etc, in this area, would definitely go a long way.
Disappointed also at the level of cleaning in the kitchen. We spent a good hour or so cleaning lots of plates and pans, cutlery and glasses which were all quite dirty upon arrival. I was disappointed by this as I don’t feel this should be our job before we’ve even used these items! Also, there are no sharp kitchen knives at all, only one large bread knife. Great freezer and a large fridge.
Air conditioning only in the bedrooms, nothing in the living room, maybe just a small fan in the living area would be greatly appreciated. We kept the wooden blinds shut and that really helped.
On the balcony, the only way you can have the umbrella up is at the table, as the holder cannot contain much water due to a hole in the side of it... we found this out the hard way and the neighbour downstairs was none too happy when water started dripping onto their awning, however when the balcony drain hole is in the centre, it’s hard for the water to go anywhere else... nightmare.
Clean towels and t-towels upon arrival. Iron and ironing board provided.
There is a small car park which gets filled very quickly, even in September. So we had to park further up along the road most days. It has very small parking spaces and everyone parks ‘strategically’ so sometimes there’s spaces which are just impossible to get into.
The villa is nice enough, and in a lovely location. But unfortunately we would not return. The level of cleanliness just isn’t up to our standard, it was such a shame we had to clean things before we could properly enjoy them here.
1. All visitors are requested to contact the local Management in the event of ANY problems upon arrival. Cleaners would have been promptly recalled.
2. Air-con in bedrooms is normal. Fans ARE provided in lounge area. Double doors open to front balcony for view & breeze plus rear door for a through draught.
3. Umbrella holder would have been replaced by management upon notification. All apartments have a balcony drain – an original design fault.
4. The available car park does not allow for allocated spaces & road parking never been a previous problem over 20+ years of ownership.
5. Humidity can cause mould. Rooms are decorated annually at beginning of season. Again action could have been taken by following No.1 above.
6. Owners have laid down procedures for problems and if followed by visitors, any unknown problem to management or inconvenience is dealt with immediately. Unfortunately, a lack of communication accentuated the issues on this occasion.
Could be a stunning apartment
I booked this apartment for my parents, which is advertised as a luxury apartment... unfortunately it is not, it could be if it was updated.
they were without air con for 5 days, but eventually it was fixed. Previous occupants had left the apartment in a state... cleaners didn't do a very good job, they had to re-wash all cutlery and crockery before using it. The iron had to be swapped as it had bare wires in 2 places. The wifi had to be fixed, they had to get an extension lead as only one thing can be plugged in at a time ie the tv or the wifi.
the umbrella base is filled with water rather than sand... it is cracked therefore it leaks on to the balcony below, and the occupant below was less than happy.
S'Algar is a beautiful place and they loved the resort, but were disappointed with the apartment, which as said previously could be beautiful as the views are stunning.
We checked situation with the local management company and they advise as follows:- As visitors turned up at 11.30a.m. (when check in time is requested for 4.00p.m.) with four large suitcases and then returned at 2.00pm, it was a rush for the cleaners to get things done admittedly and the cups/plates etc that were in the cupboard were not checked because of time but the washing up was clean because I did it to keep the time down for the cleaners. Photos would have been good from them. The air con was working but they had it on the wrong setting. Once we were aware of the wifi problem we got an engineer to have a look and it was noted that plugs had been taken out of sockets to charge phones so we brought an extension lead and problem solved. All issues which were brought to our attention were dealt with on the same day including delivery of the iron within a few hours.”
We would further comment as follows:- we checked with previous occupants of the property and they were able to utilise the wifi as they used other sockets for charging phones etc.
Also, I would mention that we do send details of people to contact should there be problems at the apartment with the balance confirmation letter and advise at that time that there is a folder in the apartment with all information required relating to apartment. There is a visitors folder on the coffee table which also gives the contact information. Our Management in S’Algar prides itself in a prompt and efficient service which we feel was evident as they attended as mentioned above.
