Cozy Round Mountain-Lake Cottage

Bedrooms 3
Space 905 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 6 nights

About the property

Note: We have recently installed new SPLIT units that provide room-specific heating and cooling comfort.

Nestled on the mountainside of Youngs Mountain in the beautiful rolling hills of RUMBLING BALD RESORT in WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA is this sweet little round cottage (an original Asheville-built Deltek round-house) with year-round beauty to offer. In the late spring/summer/early fall, you'll experience a wrap-around lush green tree canopy. In mid-late fall, you'll be able to see some of North Carolina’s most amazing tree colors from the comfort of the deck, living room, and every other room in the cottage. In the winter, you can spot Party Rock across the way, and see the sun glistening off of the lake below. Best of both worlds-MOUNTAIN and LAKE!

This sweet cozy round cottage features three bedrooms, each with comfortable season-appropriate linens (one master with a queen bed and full en suite bathroom, one guest room with queen bed, and one twin-bed bedroom/kids room). Another full bath in the hallway (with full tub). We offer a well-equipped galley kitchen with all necessary amenities, and a laundry area (washer / dryer) for your convenience.

A quick drive down the Youngs Mountain brings you to the Rumbling Bald Resort club-house and all amenities inclusive of trout stream, hiking trails, private lake beach, two restaurants, outdoor pool with lazy river (outdoor pool opens Memorial Day weekend and closes Labor Day weekend), year-round indoor pool, work-out room. Legend’s Sports Pub at the main resort has been recently renovated to offer the best in fall-game viewing, as well as just being a fun place to bring your pals, or your family, or both! Seasonally, there are many resort activities. You can also rent kayaks or pay a small fee to play miniature golf. As guests of the resort, you are eligible for golf discounts, as well. There are plenty of off-site activities to be enjoyed that are within a 45 or so minute drive, including Chimney Rock Village (complete with a great brewery and many delicious restaurants to choose from), mountain wineries, year-round hiking (including DuPont State Forest), gem mining activities for the kids, and zip line to name a few. Asheville is a short drive away (approximately 45 minutes), with tons of award winning restaurants, a craft brewery on nearly every corner to suit every taste, music venues, art galleries and historical sites.

We welcome you to come enjoy the peaceful nature of this quiet mountain retreat that is close to plenty of fun activities, but also offers peaceful relaxation in naturally beautiful you seek! Please inquire of dates or any further questions you have-we are happy to answer!

Have a great day!

About Brandon Jones

Hi! We are a family of three (mom/dad/son). We were so happy to find this little place in Lake Lure, and we are happy to be able to share it with others far and wide. We love to visit our little cottage when we have a spare weekend. We live close by in Laurel Park, NC. When we are at the cabin as a family, we love to disconnect, cook meals together, enjoy the peacefulness of the natural surroundings, kayak and swim. In the cooler months we still kayak, but we hike more, play games and watch movies; basically we reconnect as a family.

Our favorite thing to do is to go out onto the deck with a cup of hot coffee, a pastry and a blanket (if there's a chill in the air), and listen to the world wake up. We repeat this in the evenings, but usually with a beer or a glass of wine.

Brandon Jones purchased this house in 2015

Why Brandon Jones chose Lake Lure

This property is quite private and peaceful and a perfect place to disconnect. We feel confident you will leave feeling rejuvenated and more tranquil after your stay!

What makes this house unique

The cottage is close to the resort, but not so close that you hear music or other happenings (which are great!). The resort is a short drive down the mountain, but the cottage feels miles and miles away. Also, this cottage is one of the original Asheville-built Deltek homes. The cottage was built into the hillside in 1969, exactly one year after Deltek opened their business doors. We feel honored to own one of these fine locally designed homes.

Our stay was great, it was a very relaxing experience. The location and house are even better than the pictures shown online. The views from the living room and patio are truly picturesque.Brandon and Ingrid both were very hospitable and more than welcoming.

We highly recommend your stay at the Cozy Round Mountain-Lake Cottage for a nice relaxing getaway.

Awe inspiring!

  • 5 of 5

Such a sweet getaway. Love Lake Lure. Larkins near to eat. Asheville so close too. Ideal spot. Great views and pictures. Quiet and yet close to surrounding fun.

Great time for all. Much more intimate than a hotel room.

Nestled in the woods

  • 4 of 5

The round house is nestled in the woods up the mountain from the resort. It is a short and steep (but manageable) drive. The house is small but cozy. We fit 6 comfortably. The deck overlooks the trees and was very peaceful to sit and listen to the birds and animals at night. Everything in the kitchen worked well-the oven gets very hot quickly! The amenities at the resort were great. Our kids loved the beach and pool. My son fished but didn't catch anything. For the lazy river you need tubes which you can purchase there. We found a couple in the house after we went and we left a couple for the next renters. The restaurant at the resort is good and kid friendly and has a beautiful view. The only negative was that the electricity went out one night. We found out it was due to a tree hitting the power lines down the mountain. We were unable to find flashlights but there were several candles. The security guard at the resort was very helpful and came to check out the situation for us. The owner was very accommodating. It was a memorable adventure with our family in the woods!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind review, Michele! The cabin now has flashlights, should the electricity ever go out, again. Thank you for being understanding about Mother Nature and her impact on electricity! We hope you will visit us, again, soon. Cheers!

Lovely Home, a bit toasty!

  • 4 of 5

The home was very cute. It had everything we needed plus a lot of nice extras! We loved the games, floats, movies, etc. We loved the resort!! My only suggestion would be to invest in central heat and air. We were there during a very hot week and the two smaller rooms were too hot at night. Also, a fire pit for smores would be nice, but I can see that it could be a little risky in the wooded area!

Owner's Response: Brooke-thanks for the kind review. We have taken your suggestion (as well as others) and installed brand new "split" AC/heating units in each room; they're very quiet and highly efficient. The WNC mountain area is heating up more and more each summer. What used to be comfortable and cool about mountain summers is now a bit more warm, with less 'cool off' temperatures at night. Hope you will give us another stay next summer season, but we're available for stays all year! Cheers-Brandon and Ingrid

Cozy and lovely!

  • 4 of 5

Overall, my friends and I's stay was wonderful! The cabin is very cozy, clean, and well maintained. There were only a couple issues we had, but easily fixable. The first is that the outside is not lit at all. At night it is pitch black and very hard to see. It would be nice if there was an outdoor motion sensor light or something of that sort as a source of light. Also, apart from the master bedroom and the living room there are no other air conditioning units in the other 2 rooms. We rented the property in mid June and it was regularly in the 90s. The 2 rooms without air conditioning were uncomfortably hot and very difficult to sleep throughout the night. The fan in the bedroom with the queen bed was very loud and clunky and was not practical to keep on throughout the night. Otherwise, we LOVED our stay! The property is beautiful and very peaceful/quiet. I also found Brandon very easy to communicate with and he was responsive before and during my stay. Would definitely rent again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback. We will address the outdoor lighting as soon as possible. We are also considering installing an HVAC unit as we know it can get warm in the summer as well as cold in the winter. Thanks again for the comments and we hope you stay with us again in the future.

Very peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was very peaceful. The home had everything we needed to spend a week. Kitchen was stocked with all the cooking utensils. Furnishings were comfortable. Convenient to all the amenities Rumbling Bald Resort has to offer and a lot of other outdoor adventure. Brandon, the owner, was very responsive to questions I had before and during stay. Nice folks to deal with. Now I can say I stayed in a round house stuck to the side of a mountain. Thanks for sharing your home with us.
