Vermont Treehouse: The Hermit Thrush Treehouse, Spend A Weekend In The Trees

Bedrooms 2
Space 300 sq ft
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Natural in the trees, 2 Bedrooms, 1 + 1/2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 5, simply magical

THE HERMIT THRUSH TREEHOUSE available only for dates between June 15th and Sept. 15th.

Everybody loves the idea of a tree house. There is something freeing, natural and connective to our childhood in the idea. Feel the gentle movement of the structure as it sighs with the wind. Imagine a life off of the ground..... even if only for a weekend. And enjoy the rich sounds of the woods as it becomes your living room.

This creation is organic in its feel and design, with living trees intermingling with the structure inside and out. Made from all local materials or reclaimed elements, it seems out of time as though you took a turn and found yourself in the pages of a story book. Don't be surprised if Gnomes or Elves drop by for tea.

The Hermit Thrush practically disappears in the woods like the particularly enchanting song of the namesake bird. There is a double (full size) bed on the first level and three single beds on the second level. Perch on the first or second floor porch and listen to the living woods. The windows all have screens. There is even a composting toilet right in the tree house for your convenience.

The covered pavilion, a few meters away, has water, a sink, gas stove, refrigerator, complete set of cooking/eating utensils, and there is a large table to eat or converse over. There is a natural fire pit to enjoy as you watch the sun set in the West. An outside shower completes the picture.

Keep in mind that the Hermit Thrush Treehouse is an artistic and rustic structure, designed to give a feeling of freedom and organic interaction with it's surroundings. Due to these ideals, some safety considerations are not present or reduced. For example, railing heights and spacings are irregular, stair treads and rises are irregular, ladders to bunk beds are free form, terrain is uneven and steep, hammocks are over uneven and hard surfaces, as well as other considerations not mentioned here. The treehouse is not recommended for very young children requiring supervision. All guests will be required to sign a waiver of liability upon arrival in order to stay.

Due to the fragile nature of the environment around the treehouse and my strong desire to keep the location as pristine and natural for you and the next guests, dogs are not welcome (as much as I like dogs). If you have an older calm dog that is not a digger, does not tear around the woods, would not feel compelled to chase the multitude of chipmunks and squirrels around, then by all means, make the case to me that this would be a fit (in such cases, there is a $25 per stay fee).

About Rik Sassa

A stone mason and carpenter for a quarter of a century, waiting for this exact time to put those skills to use and do what I have always wanted, create structures that are natural and artistic, whimsical and functional and try to fit into their setting rather than stand apart from it. I am eager to offer an alternative vision of what life could be like being more connected with nature and more playful about life.

Rustic and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Amazing, incredible, rustic beauty, breathtaking are just a few of the adjectives i can think of to describe our amazing stay. Rick was there to greet us and give us a quick tour of his property and answer any questions we might have. I would highly recommend his tree House to anyone who would like a beautiful and rustic getaway. It was like stepping into another magical time.

What a wonderful peaceful retreat! We had a relaxing weekend exploring the area, hanging around the pavilion playing games and sitting by the fire. The owner met us upon arrival, showed us around and how everything worked. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. The property is well maintained and very clean. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you Rik for providing busy city people with a quiet retreat.

Stunningly beautiful treehouse

  • 5 of 5

The love and care Rik put into his property is immediate as soon as he greets you there. The treehouse is a work of art but so is the rest of the property with handmade appreciation benches and tables throughout the grounds. The open air shower was a nice little bonus and was a religious experience on the hot humid days we had. The pavilion kitchen was absolutely amazing. In fact, we pretty much exclusively cook huge feasts to keep us busy when we rent properties on VRBO, and the kitchen was just as cool to hang out in as the treehouse. We brought some extra kitchen supplies not knowing what to expect (we should have just emailed/called Rik because he would have been happy to give us info) but the kitchen was completely stocked with anything you could ever possibly need. We experienced an intense thunderstorm on our last night which would have been fun if not for the 60 mph gusts, but while frightened otherwise, we felt safe in the structure. We left to drive to town where we had cell phone service to check the doppler but there was a tree down blocking the road out. Even though it was late at night, as soon as the rain stopped we heard the chainsaw clearing the road. It shows that Rik cares about his guests and his property. He was clear that the experience in the treehouse is like camping/glamping, and you should treat it as such. It was an amazing experience in a storybook beautiful property and I can't recommend it enough.

We were in awe in the craftmenship and detail of this awesome place that he has built.

Our stay at the treehouse was absolutely wonderful! We stayed two nights and really wished we had more time to spend here.

Rik had the campfire going, greeted us with smile and gave us a tour. His attention to making us feel welcome was apparent from the start.

The treehouse is rustic and definately has a lot to offer those looking to be close to nature without camping.

It is very cozy the beds are comfy. The covered pavillion, even though outdoors, has all the comforts of a complete kitchen.

Final thought from our 14 yr old son "It was surreal and amazing and we would definately stay here again!"

Agreed 100%, very awesome place to stay! Thanks Rik!
