Villa in Praia da Luz, Nr. Lagos, Western Algarve, Portugal - Established Residential Location With Sea Views And Family Friendly Layout & Facilities
About Claire Willmott
The Willmott Family live in the South of England and enjoy looking after our animals which currently include a very naughty cocker spaniel, a greedy black Labrador and ten pigs which we keep along with the help of their neighbours.
Claire Willmott purchased this Villa in 2007
Why Claire Willmott chose Luz
Casa Lontra is owned and let by the Willmott Family. They have been visiting the Algarve for more than 15 years. They love it there so much that in 2007 bought a villa in Luz now called Casa Lontra. After a huge refurbishment, the villa is their favourite place to holiday and they enjoy the local beaches (easy for a lazy day and a bit more sociable) as well as exploring further afield and spending long days on the west coast beaches pretending they can surf and body board (they really can't!).
What makes this Villa unique
The villa has been refurbished and equipped with families in mind with the swimming pool, terrace area and garden all individually fenced so little ones can play safely. In addition, cots, highchairs and children's crockery are all provided. The villa is a short distance from the beach at Luz and the village shops but is in a long established lovely, quiet residential area. The views from the villa are of the sea - what more can we say!

We had a fabulous holiday
Loved the place and where we stayed very well equipped villa
Thank you for your review. We’re pleased you enjoyed your stay. Hope you had a fabulous birthday!
Contemporary decorated, relaxing villa
5 adults and 2 under 3s had a fantastic stay. The villa has a great selection of toys that both my children enjoyed playing with. This made travel to the villa and packing for the holiday so much easier as so much is provided for you. The rooms are all contemporary decorated and spacious. The villa has amazing views over looking the sea. The pool area feels nice and safe with the gated access. When we arrived we were informed that the washing machine was broken but a replacement was fitted the next day and a new machine installed the day after. If we had any questions they were quickly answered. The property is only a 10-15 minute down hill walk from the town. It's a bit harder going back in the heat of the day, so other visitors may wish to drive. Lots of family friendly restaurants nearby and I would definitely recommend to friends.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. It's great to hear that the thought and handwork we put into making the villa work for families has paid off!
Nice views, warm pool, beautiful villa
Maybe the title says it all.
We really liked to stay at Casa Lontra. The villa is very spacious and the bedrooms are separated from the noises of the living room and kitchen.
The nights were quite cold in april but the pool stayed very warm at all the time.
The villa is in very peaceful location but the local amenities are still near. The garden and pool are very private.
The front yard of the villa is big enough even for parking 9 seater car.
Overall we had great time at Casa Lontra and the scenery from the terrace is mindblowing . It was awesome eating breakfast on the terrace and watching Atlantic Ocean.
What's not to love? With three children under 9, this was genuinely the first time in that many years that I'd been able to lie undisturbed and unworried by a pool in the sunshine. The villa is spotless and well cared for with every amenity for young families: it's clear the owners have given this so much thought. With one napping at lunchtime, it was perfectly situated to make a beach trip in the morning, relax on the cool terrace over lunch, and then venture out again later on. We were given lots of personal recommendations which made such a difference: the Pizza place in Burgau on a balmy evening after a sandcastle competition and glass of rose on the beach is an evening I won't forget in a hurry. There were only five of us, but the house would happily have accommodated another five - it felt enormous. My 9-yr celebrated his birthday the week we were there, and when asked what he'd like, replied that he wanted a one-way ticket to Casa Lontra. Which just about says it all. We'll be going again...
Luz Beach is 1.5km from Casa Lontra. The beach is a typical village beach with water sports, sun loungers and parasols available. Meia Praia in Lagos is a twenty minute drive from the villa. With 8km of white sand, water sports, loungers and parasols available, several beach bars. This is a relaxing beach experience. There are lots of other beaches all along the coast between Lagos and Luz and beyond. For wilder beaches and some good waves, you can head to the West Coast, amazing!
The nearest airport is Faro (50 minutes). Seville is a two hour drive as is Lisbon. You can walk to the village and the beach from the villa but we would recommend you hire a car as it is quite hilly and so you have the means to explore the stunning coastline.
The village of Luz is 1.5km away. Lagos is the nearest big town and is a twenty minute drive. The wonderful sites of Sagres, Cape St Vincent and Monchique are all within an hours drive of the house.
There are two small but well stocked supermarkets in Luz as well as a bank, post office and chemist. Lagos boasts several large supermarkets, a wonderful fish market (open daily excl. Sundays) and a Saturday market bursting with local produce. A short drive from the villa is the zoo which is a fun day out as are the water parks (there are a couple within 45 mins of the villa). All sorts of water sports are available from Body boarding to luxury yachts, surf school to water skiing.
