About Lori Ortega
Growing up in the Southern Rockies brings a little touch of down home goodness to the heart. As children we've both loved the outdoors. We grew up skiing in mountains and love hunting and fishing. We own Premier-Outfitters, a hunting, horseback, fishing, hiking, and camping outfit. This gives people a opportunity to experience a lifetime adventure they will never forget. Now our three children follow in our foot steps. If it doesn't have to do with the outdoors they are not interested. You will get to know us and see how unique we are. We certainly can't wait to meet you!
Why Lori Ortega chose Questa
We want the people to feel comfortable when they stay at the Ranch and appreciate the quality of nature that surrounds you while you enjoy the stay in our cabins. The cabins here at our Ranch were thought up very carefully. Every log was hand picked by us to show of the details in the interior and exterior walls. Each cabin has its very own story. You are in a remote location yet minutes away from your destination you choose.
What makes this Cabin unique
We have many attractions at the Ranch. The kids will love winter and summer at the pond, skipping rocks in the creek or a nice mountain hike and view natural land slides and Indian ruins. Enjoy farm animals at the barn or a barbecue on the deck overlooking the creek. A camp fire by the pond is quite calming after a long day out. Walking into the cabins you will be remarkably impressed. The best benefit of all is to share your experience with your loved ones and take home stories you will never forget. Not as described
The cabin itself is clean and well-maintained. Owner was friendly and responsive. But this cabin is NOT riverfront or remote. The town is remote. You can’t reach a river without a 20-30 minute drive. Even a pond or lake is about 20-minute drive.
The cabin is part of a “neighborhood” of homes and trailers. From the cabin you see other cabins, homes, and tarp-covered construction materials.
Kitchen supplies were minimal and it was difficult to cook for family of five.
Water pressure was horrible. Owner said she would investigate. At times it was fine but more often it was a pencil-thin trickle that made dishwashing and showering difficult.
Washing machine was adequate very small considering cabin is advertised as able to sleep seven and smells of mold. Dryer took two cycles just to dry thin cotton t-shirts.
Master bedroom has low ceiling and no air circulation.
For a short stay this cabin would have met basic needs but we didn’t find it suitable for a week with a family of five who was looking for relaxation, hiking, and fishing. We had to spend too much time in the car every day to access fishing and hiking.
Cozy log cabin
This is a log cabin decorated in a rustic style and located outside of Red River. It is cozy with a wood burning stove and a wall heater. Upstairs is a loft for the children. Outside next to the patio is a running creek. It is quiet and not a turisty area.
Beautiful cabin. Great distance from Red Rivers ski resort. Wish the water was hotter in the shower. Wish I would have known they offered horseback riding earlier. Other than that great experience. Wonderful owner, my son enjoyed having fun with her 9 yr old. Can’t wait to go back.
Thank you for your review. We will turn water heater up for hotter water. Thanks for letting us know. We enjoyed having you.
My family of 5 (3 young children) loved staying in Lori’s cabin the 1st wk of January. The cabin has so much personality & was backed up against a forest that was fun for the kids to explore. We had a very quick drive to Red River to tube and even Taos wasn’t a bad drive (30 min) to go ice skating. Lori was very easy to work with. We had a great time & recommend this cabin.
Thanks again for enjoying your stay. I am glad you found the drives to Red River and Taos closer than it seems. There is not very much traffic both places. We hope you all return.
Clean and very comfortable
The cabin itself was nice, clean, and comfortable however the location has negative influences.
First, it must be noted that this property is not in Red River, New Mexico but approximately 12 miles away in a remote, small community with limited amenities. The area is accessed over a poorly maintained road. The property does not have a number for the property listed on this road therefore very confusing to the first time visitor. I had to call the owner's mother or mother-in-law several times due to the lack of visible address signs. The propane wall heater in the cabin required re-starting numerous times as it would shut-of and the TV channel selection was on dish and could not get any major networks such as NBC, ABC, or CBS for news.....I would not re-book this property.
Any mountain outdoor activities is right at your finger tips. From jeeping and fishing during the summer, to skiing and ice fishing during the winter. There are plenty of local festivals year round. Enjoy local wineries and art and historical museums minutes away.
