Excellent holiday home in Cawsand

  • 5 of 5

We were last in Cawsand 5 years ago and have been keen to return ever since-we absolutely love it here and this lovely 'home from home' helped us to enjoy our stay even more. The house is very comfortable, clean and well equipped; it's location was perfect for us with children that wanted to be at the beach all day every day, even in the rain!! We all had a fabulous holiday.

All correspondence with Gwyn and Jo was prompt and friendly-nothing seemed to be too much trouble! Thank you for helping to make our holiday very special. We will definitely return and recommend your accommodation to our friends and family.

This property was amazing, it had everything you needed and more for a home from home stay. The conservatory was an added bonus to sit in with a glass of wine of a night and relax. Neighbours were helpful explaining where nearest supermarkets were, bus stops and about the ferry that sails off the beach to Plymouth. The area is wonderful two little shingle beaches one child friendly and one dog friendly. Lots of pubs for meals or just a drink. There are lots of walks straight from the doorstep of cottage, so once parked up you needn't move the car again if you don't want to. All in all we had a fabulous holiday here, weather was kind to us an we will definitely go back.

Comfortable house, great location

  • 5 of 5

The Rame peninsular is known locally as the forgotten corner of Cornwall. It’s charming and unspoilt. Cawsand itself is a great place to get away from it all. It has two small beaches Cawsand and Kingsland, 4 pubs all with their own unique atmosphere, and a few small privately owned shops including now an artisan baker. Let’s be clear, it’s not the place to go if you want pulsating nightlife, and teenagers who don’t like water sports or sunbathing are likely to complain there is nothing to do, but for everyone else it’s pretty close to paradise. It’s a great place for families, couples or indeed single travellers looking for peace and tranquillity in a picturesque setting with safe swimming. Kingsland beach is dog friendly which was important for us and most (all?) of the pubs allow well behaved dogs inside.

The older part of the town consists of traditional stone built houses in very narrow streets. Roads are only suitable for 1 car at a time so most are one way, and there is no parking. These older places have great character but can be cramped and lacking in facilities. This is where Chy-an-Forn comes into its own. It is very well placed being as it just on the outskirts of the old town and literally a two minute walk to the beach and the main town square n.b. its quicker to get to the square if you go out the back door! The house is a modern mid-terrace that is light and spacious. It is well equipped, spotlessly clean, very comfortable and cosy. The main bedroom with a double bed is at the front of the house. Next to this is a second bedroom with bunk beds. One thing to note there is a connecting door between the two rooms that has no lock (presumably for fire regulations?). The rear bedroom has two single beds. The bathroom is light and airy and there is a very efficient shower – important after a day swimming in the sea.

Parking is allowed outside the house but only between 18:00 and 08:00 due to a residents parking scheme. There is a public pay and display car park just 2 minutes up the hill but you don’t need to use it as you can park on the road free of charge just opposite. There is no Wi-Fi in the house, but plenty of hotspots in town.

So in summary if you are looking for the Cornwall of drunks in football shirts, clubs full of stag and hen parties, and obese tattooed chain smokers in red ‘lifeguard’ hoodies you will be disappointed. If not Cawsand and Chy-an-Forn in particular are very highly recommended.

An absolutely wonderful break

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a long weekend, and it was fantastic, the cottage was clean and well equipped, so it felt like home from home, we read though the comment book that was at the cottage and could see that every one was of the same opinion with many regular visitors. Cawsands is a picturesque rugged Cornish town with beautiful views over the bay with lovely coastal walks, and you can finish off in one of the pubs to be entertained by local live music....... An absolute wonderful weekend, and we are already planning our next visit! It really is the forgotten corner of Cornwall !
