Lucia purchased this Apartment in 1989
Why Lucia chose Caterham
What we love about this area is the fact that we enjoy all the benefits of Surrey village life and country living, local pubs, golf, riding etc. yet we are less than an hour from central London by train from Caterham station. It really is the best of both worlds. Our many guests love the fact that we are so close to London and yet our rates are comparatively low for what we offer. This attracts more and more long stay guests as the cost of serviced apartments in this area is very high. We do not offer what a fully serviced apartment or a serviced studio apartment can offer as our flats do not include a fitted kitchen but we do our best to provide guests with some kitchen appliances so as to make their stay more comfortable. The main kitchen on the ground floor can be booked by guests at no extra cost at certain times of year when available as can the garden with gas BBQ.
What makes this Apartment unique
This is an excellent area for people of all ages. Our adult daughters have been riding at a local riding school since they were just three years old, as a family we have enjoyed country walks in the North Downs on a weekly basis (always ending with a drink at one of the local pubs / taverns), we have tennis and badminton courts in the beautiful Queens Park, just across the road from our house, a bowling club, mini golf, croquet and a children's playground are also in Queens Park and in the summer you can sit on the green with a picnic and watch a traditional game of cricket in the perfect setting. If you are here in November, you can enjoy the Caterham Dene spectacular firework display also from the park or from the window on our half landing if you would rather admire it in the comfort and warmth of your own home, This area is safe, virtually crime free compared to other more central areas, yet we still have easy access to London whenever we want it. London, Victoria is less than an hour away by train and Gatwick is just 20 minutes away,
Canceled bookings will not receive a refund
Lucy was exceptionally kind
Without too much words, our stay in Caterham was interesting courtesy of Lucy and everyone. We enjoyed every bit of it. I recommend it for anyone anytime anyday.
I had a wonderful time in Caterham! I'm glad that I went the VRBO route for this trip. 🙂
I arrived by myself for the first week of my trip and had a great time exploring and learning about the train, bus, and taxi systems. This location was perfect for being outside of the big city of London yet close enough to visit when I wanted to. The host family is super friendly and helpful and available for advice as I needed it. I had everything I needed there as well. It was so great to have a refrigerator, toaster, microwave in my room for personal use instead of always having to eat out. When my two travel buddies arrived for the final two weeks, we were provided with a driver and car at a very good rate so that we could make a couple of day trips in the countryside to special places we wanted to see. We had so much fun! I would recommend this VRBO very highly and hope that I can stay in touch with the hosts Lucia and William and friend Owen.
I am so glad you enjoyed it here; we certainly loved hosting you and we meant it when we said that you are always welcome to return any time. Next time you come you can factor in a stay in our flat in Italy. Such a shame you couldn't manage it this time.
Anyway pass our regards onto the others and let them know that there is a home here in the UK whenever they and you wish to come back
Like staying in a friend's house
Lucia and Will are nice and welcoming. We felt like home when staying there. I like the homemade jam very much! Thanks Lucia again for the warm hospitality, thanks Will for driving us to the school, and thanks Owen for driving me to the train station!
Clean and inviting.
Love the owners, very helpful and professional. Would recommend to others.
Hi Heather and Ward,
It was so lovely to meet you; we were sorry you weren't with us for longer so we could get to know you better. The Easter weekend was really hectic for us this year; we usually have more time to socialise with our guests. We went for dinner at Mr Uddin's the night you left and everyone there said how lovely you both were and how sweet the children were. Do come and see us again some time; we would totally love that.
Lucia and William
Gorgeous and Friendly
Great and well kept.
Perfect location close to train station and town.
Would recomend it to anyone coming to Surrey for a long stay.
Nice place to live and the Landlady & Lord were so kind that we felt like belonging to the family!
We stayed here 6 weeks through January and first part of February 2017. Our accommodation included only basic items like a fridge, microwave oven and kettle, but that suited us well. Sky TV with some 800 channels(!) was also included, as well as a fast internet connection (ADSL) through Wifi. Regardless of the "varying" UK January weathers we enjoyed very much of the vast network of trails, parks, commons and all in this beautiful area of hills and valleys in Surrey Hills. Added with tons of history (Kenley Air Field, old churches, hospitals, barracks, etc.). The connections to London area worked extremely well for us as well, mainly by Southern Train services, but utilizing buses and even trams sometimes as well.
There are more and more low cost hotels opening in our towns and cities everywhere. Sadly they are increasingly impersonal, stark and often in isolated and unpleasant areas, they have few facilities and are actually not all that cheap. Staying anywhere for any length of time can prove very expensive if you do not have at least some of the creature comforts of home. Of course, no one wants to go on holiday and do housework and cook meals, but even when you stay in so called 'luxury' hotels and pay huge amounts of money, you still have no access to a proper fridge, a toaster, certainly not a microwave or even basic crockery. Having a cup of tea in a plastic tooth brushing cup is not a pleasant experience. We provide guests with everything they need for a comfortable yet low-cost 'home from home' experience. London is a wonderful place to visit; it is truly magical during the Christmas season with its Christmas lights, Winter Wonderlands, ice-skating rinks, museums, art galleries, musicals and ballets and restaurants serving wonderful foods from every corner of the world. In the summer you can make the most of the many London parks: on a hot day you could swim in the Serpentine, sunbathe in Hyde Park, have afternoon tea al fresco in thousands of different venues, shop for absolutely anything your heart desires and go dancing on a riverboat on the Thames till the small hours. But London is vast and large and can be VERY VERY expensive. For this reason when we decided we would rent to holiday makers we decided that we would provide them with basic essentials which would enable them to make the most of their London experience and also help them to save money.
Parkgate House is approximately 50 minutes from the south coast by car and a short train journey away from Brighton and other coastal resorts. Several of our guests have enjoyed day trips to the seaside in the summer months and our long stay guests have even joined us on occasional day trips to France. As we are located so close to the M25; the channel tunnel is just 50 minutes away so we can be in Calais in less than two hours from Parkgate House.
Parkgate House is within very easy reach of Gatwick airport, train stations and buses. Gatwick airport is just 15 miles away (20 mins by car) and a National Rail station connecting Caterham to London and all parts of the UK is a 10 minute walk away.
Whenever possible we are happy to provide shuttle service for our guests for airport and station transfers as required. Low cost no frills air travel from anywhere in the world to Gatwick Airport could make Parkgate House a convenient and cheaper alternative to hotels in and around London.
The South East of England is well worth visiting. London is less than an hour away by train but this area has so much more to offer. Caterham itself is nestled in the hills of the beautiful North Downs attracting walkers and ramblers from London and beyond but above all else Caterham is not only a pleasant place to stay but it is also safe. We appreciate how difficult it is when you are travelling abroad and having to decide where you should stay without actually going there in person first. If personal safety is a consideration for you and your family then look no further. We take Health and Safety very seriously indeed.
Within driving distance are: Hever Castle, the ancestral home of the unfortunate Anne Boleyn, Chartwell, the family home of Winston Churchill, Leeds Castle with its towers, turrets and moat, the beautiful Chaldon Church and so much more.
If you are sporty, we could arrange for you to spend a day at several local gyms where you can swim, do Zumba, Yoga, aerobics, have a massage and so much more.
If you would like to experience riding in the beautiful North Downs, we have a link with a riding centre just a short drive away from Parkgate House.
Everyone knows that London never sleeps: London is the European Capital of Theatre, Musicals, Opera, Dance and Concerts to suit all tastes. London has a vast selection of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. You can have steak and kidney pie and a pint of beer for a few pounds in any pub in the area or enjoy a world class Indian, Italian, French meal at one of the thousands of restaurants in and around London - all very competitively priced. Otherwise treat yourself to something a little special at one of the many Michelin Starred restaurants all over the capital.
The weather in the South East of England can be very warm even hot in the summer months (from May to September) but the weather anywhere in England can be quite unreliable so people should always come prepared for rain. The autumn in Surrey is lovely; this area is known for its beautiful, colourful walks; the north downs are spectacular in the autumn months. Winter can be very cold some years yet extremely mild in others. However, London's attractions are amazing whatever the weather and London in the Christmas season is really quite magical
