Fantastic family holiday
Great location, great facilities and will definitely be booking for next summer.
Great setting and location
The facilities offered by the estate are excellent and the children loved the outdoor and indoor pools.(both heated)
The home was welcoming and provided the essentials which were all clean but we felt the property was in need of a deeper clean and it smelt a little damp as we walked in.
The owner made a courtesy call on our first morning which was a nice gesture.
There were quirky little lanes to get to the pool which the children loved and the walks around the estate were pleasant.
Fishing in the lakes was difficult due to excessive pond weed.
The location of the place was really good and our family enjoyed the stay.
We had a fantastic time in "Hollyhocks" as a family with 3 generations. The location was perfect for some brilliant beach days and we all enjoyed both indoor and outdoor pools daily. We hope to be back again.
Great place to stay with a family (and dog)
This was our first trip to Devon - but won’t be our last! The property is great. One of the best things about Hollyhocks and the Colmer Estate is that after a (very) long drive from London on the Friday, we never left the grounds on the Saturday. The kids (10,9 & 7) used the indoor pool, roamed the grounds (with the dog) played a little tennis, etc. We then walked to the Cali Inn for dinner. Having a place with so much to do without having to get back into the car was great.
Martin (owner) had been in touch a couple of times prior to arrival and also gave a call to check everything was OK the day after we arrived. He even left a welcome bottle of wine which was much appreciated!
On the other days, we did a combination of using the facilities of Colmer Estate and exploring Devon. We particularly enjoyed walks in Bolberry Down and Buckland Beacon & 10 Commandments.
The outdoor pool was open, and the kids did brave it once, but mostly just used the indoor pool given the weather.
Would definitely recommend to a family - with or without a dog.
Well presented apartment in a beautiful setting.
Our family really enjoyed Colmer Estate. The great facilities were complimented by the beautiful and extensive private grounds on the doorstep. It was also well located for some super South Devon beaches. We found everything we needed for a short break provided in the apartment. On top of all this, the owner was very helpful, confirmed the reservation promptly and was easily contactable. An excellent stay.
Great stay in great location & facilities within the estate
Fantastic week, the property was very clean and functional, TV, Wifi, washing machine, dishwasher which made life a lot easier, the grounds in the estate are great, the 2 pools are a blessing, both heated, but gives kids options and a change of scenery, perfect to keep them occupied on rainy dull days, we were lucky enough not to have any on our stay. Grounds are big enough for dog walks and a bonus that dogs are allowed at the property.

Visit Wonwell beach, the Pilchard Inn on Burgh Island, ride the sea tractor back when the tide comes in! Visit Salcombe. Enjoy fish and chips at the Anchor, Hope Cove. Go surfing at Bantham. Drive the tidal road at Aveton Gifford. Lunch at the Oyster Shack. See Thurlestone rock at Milton Sands. Discover WW2 at Slapton Sands. Enjoy a pint at the Ship at Noss Mayo- all within 30 min drive. If you miss shops then Plymouth is close, and beyond that the Cornish coastline with its fishing villages.
By car from Exeter along the A38 is under one hour, and from Plymouth is under 30 minutes. Exeter is the nearest airport within one hour drive. Trains come in from Plymouth or Exeter to Totnes which is the nearest station.
Nearest small town is Modbury 7 miles, Kingsbridge 6 miles- nearest TESCOs , Totnes-nearest Morrisons, Dartmouth nearest Sainsburys and Lidl.
The excellent facilities of the Colmer estate are all free of charge and exclusively for the use of the Colmer guests. These include swimming pools, a tennis court, fishing lake, fitness suite, adventure playground, walled garden and games room.
The fitness suite is equipped with rowing, walking and cycling machines, a sit up frame and a bench press with weights. 28 acres of private grounds include a mixture of grass lawns, woodland, wild flower meadows, a walled garden equipped with children’s play equipment and boules pitch. Coarse fishing is available on the private lake, which is stocked with large carp and golden rudd.
