A wonderful place to be

It is really a wonderful little Fishermen's house and very complete equipped.Dishwasher, washing machine, DVD player, Internet, games and puzzles & books. The atmosphere in the house is warm, loving & inviting. You feel immediately at home. I can recommend it warmly

la maison de pêcheur est à une "encablure" du port de plaisance et toute proche aussi du port de pêche. que dire de la propriétaire : que du bien ! elle est charmante, précise, à l'écoute. je vais cesser d'en dire trop, car elle risque d'avoir trop de succès et d'être over-bookée. (c'est une mauvaise plaisanterie : je lui souhaite beaucoup de succès). A +

Fishercottage

Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Urlaub in Jo's kleinen Cottage. Das Cottage hat eine schöne Lage in der Stadt, zu Fuss kann man den Hafen besuchen, auch Bäckerei und Supermarkt gibt es in der Nähe. Das Cottage ist gut ausgestattet, wir haben uns sehr über die vorhandenen Badehandtücher für den Strand gefreut. Auch die Terrasse ist sehr schön zu nutzen im Sommer. Talmont ist eine Reise wert und die Strände in Meschers waren toll. Auch Bordeaux oder die Ile de Re kann man per Auto erreichen. Vorallem Jo war eine sehr liebenswerte Gastgeberin, sie hat uns sehr nett empfangen und auch der kleine private Parkplatz war toll. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Beautiful Gite - fab area

Lovely gite in a lovely area. We particularly enjoyed going to the port to read in the shade and enjoy a drink in the bar/restaurants. Plenty to do and see in the local area with La Rochelle and Bordeaux within 90 minutes to go further afield. Jo was very welcoming and helpful, being only 20 minutes away if needed

Séjour authentique et riche de découvertes

Le fisherman’s cottage est accueillant, typique et très bien équipé. C’est l’endroit idéal pour se ressourcer après une journée de balade. Mortagne offre des vues époustouflantes sur l’estuaire de la Gironde, c’est aussi le point de départ vers d’autres sites magnifiques : la côte entre Meschers et St Georges de Didonne, l’estuaire de la Seudre où Blaye entre autres. A recommander à tous ceux qui apprécie la nature, les plongées dans l’histoire et l’authenticité de ceux qui font vivre tout ce patrimoine. Nous avons passé de très belles vacances !

Favourite getaway!

We love this property, the location, the owners... We've been twice now and it's just so lovely to be there! You can sit in bed watching the swallows nesting or sit outside in the sun pretending not to be listening to people walking past. The house has everything you could need without the feeling that you can't relax in it. It feels like a best kept secret! We went in the Summer but would love to go in the Winter, although our favourite place to eat, which is a very down to earth 'cabane' that cooks fresh sardines on an outside grill and serves better oysters than the Ile d'Oleron, is probably not open then...

Lovely cottage, great location, immaculate and well equipped!

We had a lovely time staying at the cottage - it’s in a great location and the views down to the port are stunning. We arrived late and Jo could not have been more helpful, sorting some bread, milk etc for us and getting the cottage nice and warm for our arrival! Possibly the cleanest holiday rental I have ever stayed in - the property was immaculate and very tastefully furnished. I would highly recommend.

Everything we hoped for ..

Pretty, comfortable and very well-equipped cottage in a beautiful setting, a small characterful village with a delightful marina. Lots of good local places to eat and to buy fresh food. Only one wish - it was brutally hot during our stay and we could have done with some (even stand-alone) a/c, especially in the bedroom. We'd recommend this lovely place to anyone and would be happy to come back!!

We are Blue and Jo Walshe (Gites en Charente Maritime) and after spending lots of time in France, and especially in the Charente-Maritime area over many years we have finally done it and moved here ! We now live just a few kilometres away from our gite in Mortagne, which we bought in 2013. We have always loved France for its food, its wine, and especially for its way of life - we have found a little bit of paradise here - and hope you will too.

We fell in love with Mortagne when we first had a holiday here a few years ago, and we've come back many times since then - we love the marina with its restaurants and cafes - there is always something to watch, and yet it's peaceful and relaxing. There are beautiful walks from the port itself - and for anyone interested in birdwatching it's a must ! And when you can tear yourself away there are lots of nearby places to visit - from historic towns such as Saintes or Cognac, to bustling cities such as Bordeaux or La Rochelle, and beaches at Meschers or Royan, And when all you want to do is relax with a good book and a coffee or a glass of the local pineau - our little terrace is perfect.
