Nice house. Great view. Good location. Some maintenance issues.

Nice layout kitchen, dining area, spa. Peaceful, impressive river view. Access to river is steep and difficult in places. One part is particularly hazardous. Maintenance issues we experienced were all avoidable - burned out lightbulbs, ants in kitchen, bees on deck areas, climbing rope close to breaking. Owner/manager is responsive to issues needing attention when we raised when we were there. An example is her providing extra fans to deal with hot weather. Overall, good place for family gathering. River activity is a natural draw but access from the house is hazardous in places. Nice swimming hole close by.

Deferred maintenance

The house and property met our needs. One highlight was the large parking area for kids to use bikes, etc. The house was clean except for some dishes and glassware. There was a fair amount of deferred maintenance around the house. The biggest problem was a mouse problem. We wound up trapping six of our own. The owner was responsive to our needs.

Family Connection

Our family had a wonderful time at the Lewis River Zen Retreat. There was plenty of room for our large family. The house was beautiful and had everything we needed to make some incredible family meals. The view from the deck is incredible and the river was cold but so refreshing on a hot summer's day! We'll definitely be back

Family vacation

The house is beautiful and really spacious, more than enough room for everyone. The setting on the river is absolutely gorgeous! The whole family, young and old, had such a good time playing on the river. (We brought paddle boards, a raft and tubes) The only possible downside would be that there is no AC, but it wasn't a problem for us because it wasn't overly hot while we were here, it cooled down really good at night.

Fabulous Solitude and Plenty of Room.

If it is beautiful scenery and solitude you want, this IS the place. Gorgeous view of the river, wonderful lawn and decks for hanging out and enjoying the outdoors. Our family had a fabulous energizing retreat at this beautifully appointed large home. We boated on the river and roasted hot dogs and s’mores.. Saw deer, bunnies, squirrels and many birds in the lush greenery surrounding us. Perfect place to unwind and regroup. The two story house has two living rooms, one on each floor and plenty of room for adults and kids to have their own spaces. There is plenty of parking (easily 8 cars) , if you have a couple of families, or adult children driving in from other areas, as we did, parking can be a problem...but not here! One large bathroom and three large private bedrooms downstairs, and a bed in the stair area, plus couches if needed are downstairs. Upstairs has a wonderful master bedroom and bath, and an additional bathroom, the living room has moe comfortable couches, great place for an afternoon nap! The apartment has two twin beds and it’s own bathroom.... really cute too!. Very comfortable home, and Petra was very accommodating as well. Our vacation was all I had hoped for and MORE, don’t miss this one! Did I mention the river view can’t be beat!! Thank YOU Petra for sharing your little piece of heaven on earth!

Great place to get back to nature and spend some time

This was a wonderful place to spend a little time in nature. The house is perfect for families and groups that enjoy both nature and spending time together. It's comfortable and cozy. The view is amazing, and the outside space is even better than the inside space. Petra is so responsive, and great work with. Would definitely visit again!

Wonderful Woodland Nov. 14-19, 2019

Overall the home and property is beautiful and right on the Lewis River with a convenient drive to and from town/I-5 like the listing claims. This was a work trip so the home was half way from Portland and half way to Longview which was ideal. Also, the owner very kindly arranged a box of Eco logs for the fire place so we could have a fire each night. We were asked to replace what we used. So bring your own fire wood as needed FYI. We ate at Rosie's Diner (Woodland) for breakfast (very good) and (Woodland) The Fat Moose for a burger (also very good). Safeway is near as well as gas, a casino and McMennamin's Kalama Lodge restaurant and gift shop (also very good), Kalama has a lovely downtown shopping district which was open on Sunday (much appreciated!). "Bedrooms": Maybe I did not read this when booking but the lower level has a room with a bed in it - no door and the open stair case acts as one of the walls. Not private enough for anyone in our group. Maybe kids would not mind. Also, on the lower level where the two wooden sleeping pods are shown in the pics there is a futon bed. Again maybe kids would not mind sleeping on a futon bed but this was not the case for our group. This room seems to be a converted porch and the temperature was much cooler in this room too - we were not bothered by this as we didn't use the room. "Tiny House": We ended up using the Tiny House as the 4th bedroom which worked out well. There is no WIFI in the tiny house FYI. "Front Door": There is an ancient lock box attached to the porch railing that we had trouble unlocking when we arrived. The care taker had to drive over to open the box for us. We were worried this would happen again over the course of our stay so we did not use the lock box after the first night. This became an issue as we had two vehicles and 4 adults coming and going using one key chain with single front door keys to the main house and tiny house. Suggested solution - upgrading the front entry doors of the main and tiny house to a coded type of entry hardware for multiple guests to be able to arrive, come and go with ease. Thank you for the stay in your beautiful PNW home, the lovely vaulted ceilings and wood work were enjoyed by all.

Very relaxing and the views were amazing we loved all the room and how close to everything

We had my daughters very small wedding and it was beautiful outside against the backdrop of the Lewis river couldn’t have ever found a better place plenty of room and no problems at all. Grateful for the owners

Family Wedding Weekend

We had our Son's wedding at the Lewis River Golf Course. Staying at the Zen was close, convenient and absolutely the best choice we could have made. Our family was close and not in motel rooms . . . we all enjoyed the serenity and family time so much. . . hard to find words to describe . . Thank you Petra for such a beautiful weekend!!

Charming house with magical view

We stayed for a week on business in Portland. The house is very spacious and comfortable, the kitchen is really well appointed for a holiday let i was pleased to find. The location is peaceful and feels quite remote. You can see the river from the house and we were treated to Eagles at breakfast. Petra was very helpful and prompt in her communication. Thanks for a great stay.

Don't miss this one!

If you're looking for a great place to stay, choose this one. Seven of us middle-aged women spent 3 nights. We are very experienced in choosing houses that accommodate our large group (usually up to 12 of us) --- and this one fit our requirements. Had plenty of room to be together -- or spend quiet time alone. Open concept upstairs was perfect for us with 4 bedrooms downstairs. Loved the hot tub -- watched the maple leaves fall as we soaked. Evenings were spent in front of the fireplace, reading, talking, web surfing. Made trips to the Cedar Creek Grist Mill and Mount St. Helens. Can't say enough positive comments about Petra's quick responses when any issue popped up. Definitely on our list to stay again.

The house is very spacious and in a beautiful area on the Lewis River.

We were very pleased with the rental and would rent again if the need ever presented itself. It was a perfect location and had enough beds to accommodate our family gathering. Also, there was plenty of extra pillows, linens, towels to make everyone very comfortable. The kitchen was well outfitted to make meal preps enjoyable. The owner and property manager were availed to help with any questions or concerns. We stayed for a week and loved the river view and relaxing atmosphere.

Beautiful Setting

Petra's house is located on the bank of the Lewis River. The pictures of the back yard don't do it justice. It was truly beautiful. We had a wedding rehearsal dinner and there was plenty of parking in the big driveway. The deck is huge and has a nice bbq and big round table that seats 8. The lawn was great for the kids to run around and they loved the teepee. The decks had all been painted recently and were in nice shape. The house is big and full of all kinds of art. The studio was great spot for our friends kids who were with us. FYI, this is not just a rental, so there are some of the owners clothes and personal items in the house.

Beautiful, clean home!

Lewis River Retreat worked perfectly for our family to be altogether in one place while we were all in town for a family wedding! Beautiful setting, although we had rain the days we were there. Our biggest disappointment was that there was no TV for the weekend football games and there could have been more hangers in the closets.

Great house on the Lewis River

We had a large group of friends come together for the weekend and we had a lovely time. The kitchen was large and open...great for entertaining. There were plenty of sleeping options and the kids loved the enclosed beds on the bottom floor. There are fantastic views of the river from the deck and from some of the interior as well. The only reason I gave this a 4 star instead of 5 is because the deck needs to be replaced. It is very worn and had worn through in a few places. Other than that, we had a great time and would definitely return for another friend reunion!

Property was excellent and location on the river was fantastic.

Our 7 day stay was excellent and the total family (including Grand Kids) had a great time fishing, hiking, and picking Black Berries. The only negative things we experienced were not enough paper towels and toilet paper. The bed in the extra out side sleeping area had a few problems but all in all, I would go again next year if the opportunity arises.
