Gorgeous Ocean View Cottage Right On The Waterfront.
You can enjoy spectacular sunsets over Pamlico Sound from the cottage deck of this cute little cottage. A peaceful, restful, waterfront location on a charming island where you can enjoy beaches, live music, art and history. Casual, cozy, with fresh ocean breezes make this island cottage the perfect get away. Stroll into town and visit quaint shops and galleries, enjoy a variety of casual and fine dining. Take in a show of exceptional live entertainment at Ocracoke's Deepwater Theater, enjoy tasty beverages at the Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar and grab a book for the beach at the local book sellers.
* The cottage is small and the stairway to the loft bedroom is narrow and steep. This cottage is not recommended for folks who have difficulty with climbing steps or struggle with health issues.
* The view is incredible from the cottage, but the sea wall is protected by large rocks. There is no dock. It is not recommended that you access the water here. If you do swim in the sound, water shoes are recommended to protect your feet from the occasional sharp seashells.

About Teresa Martin
An avid traveler and athlete all my life, my husband and I explored the Outer Banks with our children and found Ocracoke Island. We loved it, bought a piece of land there for family vacations and since then my daughter has become a long time local of the village. My daughter manages the cottage and in 2015 we completed renovations to secure the seawall, raise the cottage higher on pilings, cedar paneled the new enclosure and updated the kitchen. We hope to share this sweet cottage with responsible travelers who love the ocean, the outer banks and respect the beauty of this charming island.
Teresa Martin purchased this Cottage in 1970
Why Teresa Martin chose Ocracoke
With a beach front yard on the Sound Side of the island you can step right into the sound to swim, fish, dig for clams and catch some crabs for dinner. Enjoy watching the ferry come and go out toward the horizon and be mesmerized by the blazing glory of sunset every day. Kayak around the north shore and explore the island wild life. You can stroll to shops and eateries, or ride a bike all over town. There are plenty of bike rental places that offer daily and weekly rentals. Enjoy live music and peaceful coffee shops. The beaches are alive with nature and the dunes are protected treasures. There is history too, as Black Beard the pirate was a regular resident of the island and dramatic story tellers are around to thrill you. But the best is just drifting off to the sound of the lapping waves in the comfort of the cozy cottage.
What makes this Cottage unique
Water front property is rare and expensive to rent on Ocracoke Island. Our cottage rents at an affordable price and is a hidden gem. Water front property, off street parking, quiet neighborhood, laid back island life. Talented musical theater, great seafood, casual and formal dining, history and glorious beaches.

Beautiful remodeled wood cottage with great view on the Pamlico Sound
We stayed as a family of four at this delightful cottage. I would recommend 2, 3 or 4 persons for this space, which includes a main room, side futon, and a neat loft bedroom. There is an HDTV screen with ROKU, so we used that or just plugged in our iPhone with HDMI adapter to watch movies so did not miss the lack of satellite or other broadcast sources for the screen. Steps away from shallow, quiet water for the kids to safely swim but recommend wear water shoes. Perfect biking distance to the village for activities and the Deep Water Theater (at which Gary is one of the leads for Molasses Creek and other productions). Appreciated the responsiveness of the owners, Gary and Kitty, who are right next door.
Sweet little home perfect for a romantic getaway
I loved this rental. My husband and I vacationed here with our two dogs for our wedding anniversary. The fishing was great right behind the house, my husband caught a 20" flounder. Sunsets and sunrises are beautiful as this cottage is right on the water. The renters were so nice, helpful, and quick to answer any questions we had. I considered chaining my self to the deck so I didn't have to leave. We will definitely be back!
Location, view, and size - perfect for the two of us.
I personally don't do surveys or reviews. However, our stay at "Salty Martin" inspires me to pen (or iPad). We so much love the Island, and this property is a poster child for the things we love.
- right on the water; we love being, seeing, looking and living here. Sunsets, jumping fish, birding, kayaking, quiet reflection
- off the more beaten paths of town; quiet, few curious passers-by, easy bicycle access to everything (didn't use the car all week)
- comfortable digs; modern conveniences, full kitchen, washer/dryer, no tv (a + for us), wifi a bit dodgy at times, sleeping loft was okay for us (might be more challenging for taller folks)
Overall outstanding time on our Island getaway.
My husband and I were pleased with the cleanliness, and the location wasn't far from the main part of the island., you could reach it all with a golf cart or a bicycle. It was a very comfortable stay. We would consider staying again. All the emenities that you need, especially the washer and dryer. I didn't have to go home with a lot of laundry to do. The view on the back deck was just beautiful. If you are a night owl, you can watch the fishing boats in the harbor. It was located on a quiet street. The only complaint my husband had was no TV.
The island is a wonderful way to slow down life and soak up the sun. Riding our bikes to dinner was an added plus! We look forward to staying here again.
This is a cozy and comfortable little bungalow. It is very quiet at the end of the point in March. The week before everything opened. The double bed is upstairs so my wife wasn't crazy about the cabin style loft and steep stairs. But the amazing view and incredibly magical sunset (literally on the front deck) more than made up for any minor problems. We would definitely stay again.
